Adrian was sitting against the large window in the library reading a book. He felt miserable after what his father had done to him a week ago. He was hoping of meeting me again, soon and had another plan to escape from the house and met me in the church.
His governess, who was called Julia, entered the library and ordered him to pay great attention during her lesson. Adrian scribbled a figure of a witch, who was mad him like a devil, on a piece of white paper.
“Lord Cecil Adrian! Pay attention! Your father will send you to school if you pay no attention in my lessons!” the governess screamed with sympathy.
Adrian ignored her. Adrian aimed his eyes at the romanian-numbered grandfather clock, which was hanging on the plain wall before he was born, as it struck twelve. The pendulum then oscillated and tolled with a lower tone beat. Adrian was delivered to the dining room to have lunch.
On the dining table, high class meat with orange juice was served for lunch. His father and mother and his other sisters joined the meal. Adrian had no appetite since then which had made him appear thinner and sick. His father saw his behavior.
“Cecil, you need nutrients and stay healthy to strengthen your memories for your lessons,” told his father.
“Cecil, listen to what papa says,” his eldest sister, Eclair added, then continued feeding.
“Papa, it’s much useless to speak to him now when he’s a moody old lion!” added Charlotte, his second elder sister.
“Am not!” Adrian screamed.
Adrian drank his orange juice impetuously then left the table earlier before his father did.
“Cecil! You'll be punished for misbehaving!” warned his father then turned silent.
Adrian went to the garden in the backyard of the manor. He was guarded by some guards to avoid him leaving the manor again.
The clouds were dark and grey but the sun hid behind them making them gleamed. Adrian plucked some red roses from the bushes then took out the shilling pendant from inside his coat. He stared at it for a long time and only thought of me because I was his first friend he ever made.
He sat in the gazebo and stared upon a couple of brightly green and blue coloured butterflies floating above the blue roses. Emerald came and meowed.
This book's true home is on another platform. Check it out there for the real experience.
“Aurora, we'll meet her again as soon as I've made an escape plan mission again,” he patted Emerald’s head.
An old lady later approached him and asked him about his frustration.
“I’d a little girl friend who I admired the most and I stayed the night with her with Aurora. I wanted to meet her but father denied our meeting. He wanted us to be parted away so I would feel frustrated because I couldn’t meet her. She probably misses me,” Adrian cried.
“You worry too much, My Lord. The young lady might be finding for you too but I’m sure, as soon as your father had cool down, he'll permitted your wishes.”
“Thank you, Mrs Fairlake.”
Adrian watched the gleaming-coloured red flower in his hand then hand it to Mrs Fairlake. He smiled at her then ran into the manor. Mrs Fairlake smiled then continued her unfinished works. She was the person who looked after the garden and had been working with the family for more than 40 years.
Adrian went to the library and smiled. He thought of something big and hoped that his father would forgive him and let him go. He opened a thick dark brown book which he’d taken from the shelf. It was a fairytale book, snow white. He loved that book too much which had made him read it more than twice a day.
He turned the pages and read it very carefully. In all of a sudden, his governess entered and ordered him to read the book in her hand which had been written in French. Adrian loved to learn French but his governess existence had torn his spirits.
He took the book and read it. When his governess went away to take some water, Adrian tossed the book away and escaped his class. He went to the garden again and asked for advice from Mrs Fairlake.
“My Lord, you should go back for classes. You don’t want to hear any nasty commotion from your parents.” told Mrs Fairlake.
“She annoyed me all the time! I just don’t know how to get her to know that I need replacement of new governess. She treated me like a prisoner.”
Mrs Fairlake smiled and stopped her work. “My Lord, look at those flowers, they bloom with many different meanings.”
Adrian had raised his curiosity and waited for what she was going to say.
“They bloom with different meanings and we think they need attention and some use it to express feelings, but the truth is, they’re trying to be attractive against insects so they could reproduce more.”
“What do you mean? I’ve got nothing in my head.”
“Which is she’s trying her best to make you be smart with any methods she had but you thought them as evil and cruel because you never learned to accept them.”
“I’d tried, many times but her ways often were rejected. I just dislike forces.”
“Then go ahead, accept her unless she did it just to get closer to your family since this family is the most powerful and ruin it, isn’t it?”
Adrian nodded then he went back to the library. Julia was there standing like a pillar with hands to the waist. Adrian apologized for his rudeness. Julia was very surprised to see him being humble then she smiled and also apologized to him for making him mad all the time.
The next day, Adrian went to the chapel in Yorkshire alone neither his parents nor his servants knew the loss of him. His plan of escaping finally happened at the scene. He went to see the clergyman but was invited to have breakfast with them.
“What’s your arrival for, My Lord?” asked the clergyman.
“I might ask of Emily, I didn’t see her this morning. I wonder where she is. Is she in the garden with the others?”
The clergyman looked very disappointed to answer his question and knew that the answer would hurt the poor boy's feelings.
“Forgive me My Lord, I know that my answer will only bring ache to your heart but Miss Emily has been sent away.”
“Joking in such a short time may not be accepted, isn't it?”
“I daren’t, My Lord.”
The clergyman was so serious that it had brought sorrow to his heart. Adrian almost cried in tears but he didn't dare to do it. He asked, “where is she now?”
“I wish I could tell you where she is but my guts are limited, I couldn’t tell where she is now. Nobody knew who sent her and I only knew that a black tall foreign man came here last week and demanded to take Miss Emily away with him. He acknowledged himself as her real father.”
Adrian high spirited had faded. He suddenly cried of frustration and disappointment. Then he swore to God that he would search for Emily till the end of the world.
