Hello!

This story is a bit of a strange one, but I think (and hope) that it’s a lot of fun for everyone! This is a joint writing project between two authors, RavensDagger and EmergencyComplaints. We’ve known each other for a while, and bumped the idea of working on a collaborative project together for some time.

About a month and a bit ago, we started working on Mirrorborn. Initially it was just a ton of idea bouncing, worldbuilding, power and system crafting, you know, the fun bits of writing! Then that lead to an opening chapter, and then another, and slowly but surely, we ended up with a tidy heap of content for a project that was, realistically, probably going to languish in a Gdoc without ever seeing the light of day.

Then we heard of the Royal Road Community Magazine for June, and the prompt was “Mirrors Can’t Eat People.”

It’s so close to what Mirrorborn is about that we decided to kick things into high gear and rushed to post this!

It was the kick in the pants we needed to take this project from a fun little idea to something we’re proud to present!

We’re kind of wearing our inspirations on our sleeves for this one. There’s a lot of Worm, a lot of cyberpunk (we’re both big Snow Crash lovers) and it won’t be too hard to guess at the other stories that inspired this one! Hopefully it’ll be half as good as the stories that we love to read so much!
