(Wall Guard pov)
I looked out over the wall at the vast wasteland that laid before me. 75 yrs ago this was all lush and beautiful. With valleys and forests that put emeralds to shame with their greenery. Now it is just a wasteland of dark black ooze. Some soldiers beleive that should one stare into it they will lose their souls for all eternity.
*Quiet again today isn't it?*
I looked over at my fellow guardsman. He was looking at the town behind us. He wore menacing robes that seemed cursed. From this and his aura alone one can gather he is a demonic cultivator. A person who uses the life and blood of others to cultivate. Normally a cultivator who uses qi from the surroundings would attack him or report him as we view such people as little more than monsters. But I simply agreed with him.
*Yeah but that is the best thing for us isn't it?*
I turned around and looked at the city with him. One when looking at the city would realize it's a mess. It didn't have any elegance of big cities like the capital. The costruction of this place was rushed to it's fullest. Every person was made to have a hand in building a structure here. Where there was room back then a structure would eventually occupy it. The city was constructed by mortals, cultivators, and demonic cultivators all ranging from earth tier to heavenly tier. This place was built at the behest of every kingdom, empire, and sect on this continent.
CRASH
Me and him both looked toward the noise but the cluster of buildings made it hard to see. Fights breaking out was not unusual. Infact it was a daily occurence but not once has anyone been killed in such fights. If some one were killed then the killer would havesimply raised his chances of being killed should the enemy attack.
* Dang! Wish i could have watched what happened. MAybe next time. Say do you know when the next shipment comes in?*

He asked me.
* I think sometime tomorrow*
*Alright thats good.*
THe shipment he was talking about was prisoners sent to die. As demonic cultivators make upa part of the population here and they can't just kill willy-nilly it was decided that each nation would send their prisoners that were granted the death penalty to help them in their cultivation. It wasn't long ago that such a thing would have never happened. No nation would ever stoop so low as to even associate themselves with demonic cultivators. But the times change and now this is our reality.
* I just hope we get a little more time before they return.*
I said as i look back at the wasteland on the otherside of the wall. What we stood on could be called the largest man made structure ever made. It is a wall that is 130 ft high and who knows how long today. It's thickness is constantly growing that at this point even a heaven tier 2 would find hard to break through. People refer to it as the chaos border. It's all that seperates them from the rest of the world and still no one believes it's enough to even slow them down.
* Yeah, give it a few years and i'll be at a level where i can run faster than most should they come back. I may be able to get away.*
My partner says. For every cultivator running away from a fight would be a great dishonor. But i can't help but find myself agreeing with him. After all we are literally just fodder so that those who get away can immediately report the enemies return. Suddenly my comrade asked.
*Hey did you hear the commanders latest story?*
*Yeah about how they broke great treasures not so that they would stay out of our hands but just because they like the pretty explosions that happen afterward?*
* That's the one. You ever wonder if any of the stories are made up?*
* I don't think so. I heard many of the same stories from other elders. Even the one about how they destroyed the great pheonix sect.*
* Yeah can't beleive one of the 5 heavenly sects was destroyed simply because someone took a bath.*
* I still can't beleive theire are only seven of them.*
*HEY SHIFT CHANGE!*
Another guard duo said as they approached. When i saw them i relaxed a little thinking that soon i'd be away from this wall. It was at that moment i saw string.
*STOP DON'T MOVE!!!*
*!!!*
I was to late. The string tightened and one of the guards was whooshed away like a fish on a line into the wasteland. Just another day at Hei xiezi city.
