"Congratulations for reaching Challenger 1 with the weirdest team composition ever."
The man said as he handed the package to Lin Fan.
Lin Fan received the delivery package from the guy and finally remembered what happened last night. Last night was the finals of the online tournament he registered on, called TFT Survival. It was the only battle royale style game mode of an autobattler where the participants fought each other until only one remains.
The game was the first of its kind, but the only thing was, it was not sponsored nor managed by the parent company of TFT, but by a mysterious organization. The reward of the competition was a mysterious potion, and only for the last contestant standing.
Well, Lin Fan was not a really good TFT player, and he only registered for fun. But what he did'nt expect was that he highrolled the most disgusting RNG during that game. He was the only one who got 3 prismatic augments. His first augment was Built Different, which forces him into playing a team with no origin or class traits. Second augment was Tri Force, and it also forced him into playing only a single tier of units, tier 3. Fortunately for him, tier 3 has more than enough units for him to choose. Finally, his last augment was double trouble, which gives additional bonuses to units if they are fielded in pairs. Now, the craziest thing about it, was he got nine items, but this nine were all tactician's crowns which give additional team space, and this alone made his team double the size of everyone else. With the huge stats bonus from his 3 augments and a very big team size from the spatula crowns, he became the ultimate winner of the game and will receive the prize of mysterious potion.
He became an instant celebrity and was due to receive the reward this morning. After playing the game, he went to bed and played another game on his mobile phone, called Mighty mage, a reincarnation game. Before he slept, he was finally able to reach level 80, a rather low level when compared to players with multiple reincarnations, but for a new soul like him, it was pretty high. He followed the walkthrough of a rather famous player, and used fire magic to farm dummies at the highest difficulty level. This game only gives one chance to change the players skillsets, and the game has many skills which are redundant. From the walkthrough, the game needs 28 skills to be competitive, but the character needs to be lvl 80 first to get them all.
Lin Fan slept after making his character undergo his first reincarnation and using his one reset, turning his level 80 character into a high potential baby with lots of skill points to spend.
He was woken by a call from the lobby of the building about a delivery, and he went downstairs to receive it. After receiving the reward, he went back to his apartment. He then did his morning exercise and was surprised to find that he seemed stronger than ever.
"MMP! What the fudge is this?"
He freaked out when he discovered that he saw a small hologram of himself in the game on his mobile phone. It showed a status bar, a skill bar, an equipment bar for items, and a virtual mansion bar.
Moreover, he also noticed the potion and its weird coloration. It seemed to beckon to him, his body was telling him that it needs the potion. He followed his feeling and drank the mysterious potion in one go. After finishing the potion, he lost consciousness.
When he woke up again, he discovered some things have changed.
First, his body has a few more traits.
On the skill bar, there is a new stat skill called talent, and it allows him to train his body stats to match his current talent skill level. Like other stat skills, it can only be gotten after investing 20 points on non stat skills.
This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.
On the equipment bar, he is able to combine three items on his two item slots. The highest stats of each item will be retained on the item slot, making him able to equip the best item for each stat. He equipped the armor slot with the armor made from a skin of a savage beast, with greatest defense, a robe of a mage, with highest magic power, and the hubris of the most accomplished summoner, with highest authority, and his body became painful as it reshaped itself into the likeness of a Greek God. On his weapon slot, he equipped the masterwork glaive, with the highest attack and reach, a wand of a lich, with highest magic power, and a staff made from a perfect branch of a tree, with great authority. His mind then experienced a terrible headache as it gained knowledge of many different fighting skills.
When he finally became accustomed to his newfound strength and knowledge, he tried to pick some skills from his talent bar. He discovered a few things were different from the game. First, some of the skills became more useful. The fire passive skill righteous flames now affects every damaging skill, not just fire skills. Not only that, air passive skills relentless gust and second wind now work for non-wind element active skills, meaning willpower cost for all skills is refunded sometimes. Relentless gust now speeds up the caster, instead of slowing down the enemy. The second part of the active water skill glacial arrest now overrides the lower speed bonus of relentless gust with its higher value that can scale indefinitely.
The two damage types of Magical and Elemental are now combined into one single damage type called Technical. Water and Energy's elemental and magical resistance debuff skills are now remade into a resistance penetration buff skill for the caster, with the energy skill Disruptive interference now penetrating physical defense and resistances and the water skill Dry dissolution penetrating technical defense and resistances. Meaning the air skill Pressure Peak with the highest base power among individual skills and the fire skill Blaze Nova with the highest base power among aoe skills, are the two best damaging skills for their type.
The three summon skills, Geological design, Genuine heart and restless bones now last indefinitely and are permanent. The same can be said of the aoe speed debuff skill from spirit called Inhibition and the life steal buff from death called life drain, which upon being used once in a fight, will allow him to steal the life force from his enemies until the fight ends.
Moreover, he can also equip two blessings, meaning he can have both the earth blessing concrete carapace and the life blessing symbiotic overgrowth. The first increases defense based on magic power while the second increases physical power based on defense. When combined with the spirit skill soul reave that creates a strong barrier that blocks damage, his fighting ability will be greatly increased.
All in all, he reckoned that 25 skill points is enough for non stat skills, instead of the 28 from the walkthrough, he removed three because the damage type of magical and elemental became one single type, which is technical, and the other blessing from the energy skill tree is rather unsatisfactory in the real world.
Along with the other skills mentioned above, he took another two passive skills, death's pollution which weakens enemy recovery and water's mist cloak, which increases reflexes. He also learned four all around useful abilities, earth's seal crush that can break any lock, fire's floating flame that can see through everything, spirit's influence that can persuade anyone or tame anything, and life's vigor restoration which allows him to heal his wounds and injuries completely, leaving no sequela that can erupt anytime.
Using the exploit in the walkthrough, he easily hacked the rng based system used by the game when choosing talents, and only learned the most useful skills of each element. In order to train his health and willpower, he needs to learn one basic, one advanced and one expert talent, and he just learned these from the air element. Because of learning these, he was able to master the air element, and it gave the title, master of magic. This title does not do much, only allowing him to meditate during battle, but this really was a super strong bonus, for it would allow him to recover his state during fights and is the last straw in breaking the camel's back. The camel's back being the bottleneck that prevents him from being too oppressive, and the breaking of the camel's back now turns him into a perpetual motion machine.
Since he is level 80, even with 25 points missing, he still has 55 skill points remaining. And he invested them all on the most useful stat, talent. Talent, as compared to authority, magic power, health and willpower, is not as good early on. The strength of Talent is on the long run, for it can surpass them each because it has all of their benefits, only locked behind the wall called training.
