The “Sons of Menazia”

It had been 34 days since Hosnah had made the announcement to seal her fate as the Millennial Hero’s mother. She had spent nearly every waking moment searching for a human male. She knew her time was running out. She was beginning to despair.

There had to be at least one male human whose DNA was advanced enough towards altruism!, she thought. There just had to be. To accomplish an offspring of ultimate power, their DNA must be on the cusp of evolutionary progression.

To actually scan a human’s DNA, I was required to walk among them. I kept a magical shield around myself so that none could see through my facade. I appeared as a normal older woman without any outstanding features as humans go. Everyone mostly just ignored me. I did use my powers to slow time so that I might cover more cities on Earth. I had covered all the large cities, along with most of the smaller cities across 16 different countries. Still I was no closer to finding a candidate. I was growing weary from lack of rest, having spent every day with only a few hours rest to keep me going. I could not trust anyone to help me, seeing as my secret was my burden to bear.

I had made my way into Egypt. Scanning the males as I passed them, I had a spell going which would bring the right DNA pattern to my attention if it came across my path. While it would have been easier to just scan the whole planet, there was no magic powerful enough to accomplish the complexity. I was forced to walk the path myself. As I made my way past the pyramids at Giza, then into Cairo, my spell went off. It surprised me, causing me to nearly stumble. I had been approaching hopelessness when finally I found the one. I paused to watch him walk by. A very handsome one for a human, I thought. He had a smile on his face, as if he was happy without cause. I scanned him to provide me with an in depth understanding of his DNA patterns. I could see that something in his life had triggered things thereby unlocking a formula which was pulsing. This pulsing was a feature of DNA which meant it was scanning the environment, seeking a catalyst. It began to react to me, causing this man to hesitate, as his heartbeat would be affected. He paused his walking for a moment as his body reacted.

I decided to shield my DNA from his. I knew that if I didn’t, he would begin to change as his DNA would try to affect his reality. That’s how the advanced DNA worked. It was very interactive with its environment. It would not benefit him to experience the changes without the power to live that life. To become altruistic in a non-altruistic world would only get him killed quickly. He had no magic to protect himself from the negative reactions of those around him. As I cast my spell of shielding, I noticed that he was being followed. As he stopped, lifting a hand to his chest, as his DNA was creating chemicals in his body very quickly causing his heart to flutter. A dark figure a bit behind him also stopped, then quickly moved into the shadows.

I shifted into an open doorway to watch this unusual human. Placing a spell of invisibility on myself, I moved into a local shop. Then I scanned him, as I desired to know more about him. I had prepared a special spell for just this moment, I triggered it. It would do several things. First it would place a marker on him so I could track him. Next, it would gather information about his life, forming a type of video diary of the key moments of his past. Lastly, the most important one, a barrier of protection enveloped him. I couldn’t let anything happen to him, now that I had found him. I was becoming very excited. All my despair fell away as hope filled my heart. Now the humans had a chance to survive. I felt they deserved time to evolve without beings like the Darbless stealing their future.

I let him walk away, as I desired to see who would be following him. Why would anyone be following him? I was very curious now. After the pause from his body reacting, he recovered and moved on as if it was nothing. Standing directly inside this clothes shop I could easily watch the street to catch this unknown stalker as they trailed my chosen human. Sure enough, as soon as he had walked a few steps, the stalker stepped back out continuing his path a bit behind. I decided to follow them. As the stalker walked by, I noticed a necklace he was wearing. It had an emblem on it, hanging loosely in front on his tunic. I had seen this emblem before, but currently, seeing as I wasn’t thinking clearly from lack of sleep, I couldn’t place it yet. I knew it would come to me so I pushed it aside in my mind.

After a few hundred feet, it came flooding into my mind. That symbol, it was the one used by the cult that worshiped the Darbless. “HOLY FLANDILESS”… I swore, before I realized I was speaking out loud. The stalker heard me and stepped quickly into the next doorway.

This cult was very dangerous. Some of them had been granted powers by the Darbless long ago, being granted eternal life to carry on their religion. The leaders of several locations had not died over the millenniums, giving them a continual flow of new members. In the past we had kept their numbers small as we were very convincing, showing the Darbless for what they were. But this last century they had gone into hiding, preparing for this time. Their leaders, knowing to hide their members from us in fear of losing their needed support, had cast protective shielding so that we could not find them.

It was only recently that we had received word from a fleeing member of their cult. The information we received was extremely concerning. Their numbers were rather large, ranging in the hundreds or more. The member had died before he could give us much, having been mortally wounded as he fled, leaving us helpless to save him. This is one of the reasons I was here now. This cult, all by itself, was dangerous enough. For our chosen hero to face a Darbless with full powers at the same time was way beyond hope of him surviving.

Even with my shielding on this human, I didn’t know if he could survive an attack by members of this cult. I had no idea what kind of magic they had been granted. In the past, we knew they had strong magic, being able to stand against the weaker of our kind. I decided to work quickly and subdue this one. I didn’t want to take any risks. I carefully approached the doorway they had entered. It was empty. They were gone. This was not good. The doorway was only a few feet deep, ending in a closed door to a residence. It was firmly bolted. I had not heard it open as I was not far behind. That meant they were either invisible or had teleported with magic. This was not good. I quickly cast a travel spell to catch up to my chosen one. He was alone. Everything was good so far. I will need to stay close to him. This cult must have foreseen his future interaction, making moves to attempt to eliminate him. Things just got very complex.

I followed him until he entered his home. Once he was inside I called upon my extended powers to cast a protective barrier. Nothing could get through this. Not even a nuclear explosion. That is how powerful my magic had increased with the manipulation of my DNA. Not even the most powerful Darbless could get through it. I was satisfied at my work, now to handle this cult.

They were called “The Sons of Menazia”.Their goal was to help Menazia as he would be reborn according to their beliefs. They had the dates with all the details, minus the true understanding of the Darbless. It fell upon their members to prepare his way. Once he arrived, to raise him as their God, keeping him safe, then to train him to fight our chosen hero. In our agreement with the Darbless, we had no rules other than none of the Darbless nor our kind, could be on Earth to interfere. All Valyric had already evacuated the planet. The only ones allowed here now were the chosen mothers. The day of conceiving was only a few weeks away. This would give me time to attempt to locate the local chapter of this cult. It generally wasn’t in my nature to kill, but this was not the usual circumstances. To save the balance of humans would require the sacrifice of these few who were traitors to their own kind. My duty demanded it.

With my enhanced powers, I could probably find them. Teleporting away from the city for a bit of privacy, I would need to draw power greater than usual to do this. I concentrated on my desire, pulling a massive of power. My spell aimed to seek out any Darbless on the planet, even a cloaked or protected one. No Darbless could stop this spell from seeing through their protection. I released it, knowing it would make its path gradually back to me. If my desire was matched, then I would be notified quickly. It might take a while, so I decided to rest. I was fairly drained, seeing as I was already very tired from the last few weeks of very little sleep. I was exhausted. I directed a protective shell around me, laid down, soon to fall deeply into sleep. If anything happened, it would wake me. I had covered every aspect, now I could rest for a bit.

The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

It was later that evening when I finally woke. As I stretched, trying to shake off the slumber, it dawned on me that it was getting rather late. My spell would have covered the planet by now. Still there was no notice. This was strange. In all the past cycles, the Darbless had always spent a considerable amount of time seeking the right human to represent them. Something was not right. There was very little time left until the day of conceiving. What could this mean?

I know there are many power structures like the pyramids constantly drawing their energy for various purposes. Those who were wise in the ways of magic would discover this, putting them to good use. The Sphinx was another, being utilized as a focal device partnered with the Giza pyramids. If the Darbless were up to something, they would most likely use one of the many power collectors in their schemes.

With this in mind I probed all the power sources, releasing my spell. If any of them were being heavily used, I would find out shortly. Again, this would take a while to conclude, so I chose this time to check in on the human male I had chosen. I couldn’t sense any tampering with the shield I had placed on his house. Turning invisible, I moved to his house with but a thought. I arrived outside, just in front to the side a bit. Everything looked quiet. I scanned the area, all clear.

It would be good to get to know this man before the day of conception arrived. I had not been with a man for hundreds of years. Sex, while pleasurable, was not as good as magic. The sensual pleasures were easy to stimulate. I knew just how enticing it was when others of my kind indulged in such things. It is only by experiencing that one could understand such things. But, as the queen of my people, I could not freely participate in such things, as my reputation must remain untarnished. Unless I sought a mate, it was not proper for me to indulge myself with others.

One of the only things I regretted from my marriage to King Jander, we never had any children. We had decided not to have any until our kingdom was settled in the new system that we had put in place. With a rebellion so early on, we didn’t know if we would face other issues from it. We hadn’t, and always something would pop up to distract us, but before we could settle down to plan such things, my wonderful Jander had died. Of course he would die saving a child. That was my Jander. There was no other like him in our kingdom. That’s why I could not bring myself to take another mate. I still miss him sorely.

I pushed all that from my mind, wiping the tear away which had formed so easily at the corner of my eye. Making my way to his front door, I knocked quietly while removing the magic disguise. I wanted to look like myself. If we were to sleep together, I wanted him to know me. Not some illusion of someone else. He deserved at least that much. I was very curious also. How could this one man have changed while everyone around him had not? It was intriguing. This might be the only human male on Earth who has evolved this much. He was special in his own right. I wanted to see just how special he was.

I didn’t have to wait long. The door opened. He stood there looking at me. His gaze swept past me, seeking for whoever was escorting me. I was alone. He seemed embarrassed to be alone with a woman that was not escorted at this late of an hour.

He must of thought I was in a dire situation because he opened the door wide, “Come in, come in, what happened? Are you in danger?”

I was in Cairo Egypt, of course my arriving at his house alone, in the evening, was not proper. I decided sooth him, else I would have to make up an elaborate story quickly to keep him from reacting negatively to me. I released his tension with a wave of my hand.

He became very friendly then, “You must be hungry, follow me, I will get you something to eat.”

I followed him into the kitchen area. He kept everything clean and orderly. He pointed to a seat at the table. I sat down. He began to gather bread, cheese and some type of meat, placing it on a platter in front of me. After retrieving some wine, he returned to sit across from me placing an empty plate in front of me. I had to admit, I was hungry. My manners must of abandoned me as I looked up to see him smiling at me while a large portion had vanished suddenly. I slowed my pace, reaching to wash it all down with the wine.

I wasn’t embarrassed at all. Fact is, I found it very pleasurable for him to be staring at me. I’m unsure as to why. I believe it was because I knew we would soon be together, in bed. I think I favored this idea. I refused to allow the thought of my long dead husband to influence me. I was doing my duty to protect Earth. Something deep inside flinched a bit as I released all my concerns of the past. After all, I was still alive and had needs. My needs were only at the seams. Like a dam filled to the top. If the pressure was not released soon, something would give. I felt my heart beating faster than normal. I slowed it. I had to remain calm. It was too early to think of such things. Not just yet I told myself. I calmed the waves that pushed against my dam. Just a little while longer girl, I said in my head. Taking a deep breath, I concentrated on him. I wanted to know him better first.

He was very handsome, well spoken, and polite. While I ate, he joined me, keeping a smile, he turned his attention to the platter of food between us.

I asked him, “What is your name?”

“ Aboa Eldahab”, he replied.

“Do you live alone?” I asked.

“Why, yes I do.” He promptly said as his smile widened.

The soothing only made people relax to feel comfortable. It did not make them change their behavior. So while it pushed the concept of my being here without an escort from his mind, along with the idea of being alone with me, it did not change his thinking or the way he treated others. I had spoken to many humans before, but there was something about the way he moved, the way he spoke, everything about him. Alluring might be a good word. The more questions I asked him, the more I began to like him. The harder it was to calm the waters.

“What do you do for a living?” I thought I would find out more about his lifestyle.

“I am a philosophy professor at the local university.”

“Do you follow any religions?”

“No, religions appear to be man-made. I prefer to experience religion on a personal basis, letting my experience of life teach me.”

Hmmm, I thought, this is interesting. It might be part of what allowed him to have advanced his DNA, definitely!

We spent the next few hours talking about life here in Cairo, his profession as a teacher and his experiences with his students. It was very interesting to me. Then my earlier spell relating to power structures nudged me out of our discussion. I was so enjoying this human’s company. That was very unusual. In the past I always found humans so self-centered and egotistical, relegating women to a lesser role in life if any acceptable position at all. Aboa was much different than other humans. I could tell the future on planet Earth was going to be very interesting once this species evolved to be more like Aboa. This only hardened my resolve even more to ensure they did survive.

Excusing myself as I stood, making the usual explanation as egyptians would. He escorted me to the front door and we exchanged pleasantries as I left. Making sure no one was nearby, I then teleported back into the desert, preferring solitude to properly analyze the results of my spell. What I found was very troubling. The pyramid of Khufu was blazing with magic. The Sphinx was also throbbing heavily with activity. Something was going on. Out of all the powerful locations on the planet, only these two were over active. I suspected the Darbless were up to something. It wouldn’t surprise me, they have never been trustworth. From time to time we have caught them attempting to cheat our agreement. We always exacted justice for their underhanded activities.

There was only one rule currently that applied to my activities. I could not interfere with the female who was chosen to produce a child for the Darbless. We were not allowed to harass each other in any way. I was not concerned with my safety as my power was extreme. Off the charts actually. But there are limits. With enough Darbless, they could overcome my talents. I cast a very strong cloaking spell which included invisibility. Then I teleported into Khufu’s pyramid. I was very familiar with it since I had been in it a number of times over the years.

I did not expect to find nearly a hundred humans. All were wearing those emblems on their necks. Dressed like ninja warriors with dark robes. It was almost funny to me. They were “Son’s of Menazia” members. There was a portal open. Against the far wall, a portal to my world was wide open. I could feel the energy from my place of birth flowing into this realm of Earth. They were going through the portal, while others were coming back through. This couldn’t be good. I could feel magic coming off the ones coming back. So that was their game. Since they couldn’t come here, they were giving these humans magic. This didn’t break our agreement. It appeared to insure their victory though. I needed to do something to close this portal down. I estimated that at least 20 of them had magic. They were humans though. Their power would be very limited. As long as I made sure the girl wasn’t here, all would be within the rules.

The portal was being held open from the other side. I would need to find that individual first. I made my way through crowd. They had no clue I was here, with my powerful cloaking spell blocking my presence from them. I approached the opening. I could just make out someone on the other side. I could cast a confusion spell on the one holding this thing open. Then set a barrier up to stop portals from opening on the planet. They would have no clue nor way to find out who was stopping them on this end. This would only allow the girl to shift to here as normal. Once I interrupted whoever was holding this portal open, then I could block all future portals.

I would have to get closer. The one thing that would set off a war was for me to interfere with the chosen girl. I could not risk that. Too many lives at stake of my own people. I had to be careful as someone could bump into me to give me away. That would be disastrous. These cultist don’t have to abide by our rules. They would definitely try to kill me, which would insure the Darbless victory. Once the announcements were made as to the chosen ones, if something happened to them by accident or related to Earth, no replacements were allowed. It would be over.

Making my way towards the portal around the side, away from the cultist. A few would go through then wait for the ones returning before more would go. So there was plenty of time between. I waited for the ones to go through, then made my way up to look through the portal. As I approached it, I began to see something on the other side. A form was taking shape but the surface of the portal was distorting my view. What I was seeing couldn’t be correct, that was impossible. So I walked right up to it to look closer. Nothing changed. Too distorted. I would have to go through to be sure.

As I stepped through it, I caught my breath. This was impossible. It can’t be. What was standing on the other side was not a Darbless. It was something out of nightmares of our past. An ancient Dragoon. Thought to be extinct. More powerful of magic than any in our whole kingdom. These were evil incarnate. They were the mortal enemy of my people and the Darbless. Long in the past our peoples common enemy were the Dragoon. My legs felt weak. My heart skipped several beats. I was at a loss as to what to do. I went back through the portal quickly. I needed time to think this through. This changed everything. A Dragoon, working with the Darbless. OMG…
