Prologue

In the world of Yohraf, wars have been fought. Kingdoms have fallen. Entire continents brazen into the ground. Within thousands of years, conflicts are a staple and something that did not show an end in sight...until someone suggested something.

In an extremely rare occasion, every nation in Yohraf gathered to discuss how to end the needless conflicts. Peace agreements? Ceasefires? All of them were laughable as the nations’ thirst for conflict would not just simply end. There must be a different way they can compete without destroying cities and pillaging the citizens.

Why not a tournament of finest warriors and mages of the lands? At first, many agreed to this proposal but some showed doubts as tournaments can be easily tempered with such as deciding unfair brackets, and tournaments can also be unfair when different nations’ warriors might have an unequal level of equipment and weapons, which would tip the balance on the strongest nations’ side.

Then someone suggested, why not a battle royale? A competition where the finest warriors would drop onto a location and they are left to search for items and fight among themselves until the last ones standing. This suggestion was also met with praise and agreement but there were still some doubts to be quenched. For once, there was still lives to be lost and if they keep sending in their best warriors, in due time many of the world’s best talents would be lost.

Finally, the magical nation of Vansterling proposed an idea. They were in possession of a spell that would enable the creation of a mirror dimension in which they are able to decide the rules of the world. Someone could kill each other in that world and come out of it just fine. Many agreed to this solution since Vansterling was known to be a neutral and relatively peaceful state.

In the end, the ‘Battle Royale Act’ was passed unanimously on the sole condition that Vansterling would not participate in the competition and in return, they would receive complete protection and immunity against any other nations. They would also mediate every conflict and send out mages all over the world to conduct the battle royale battles.

10 years have passed since then. The world is more peaceful with the battle royale solution to conflicts. Of course, territories and resources are still being fought for but they are decided by battle royale instead of bloodshed.

This text was taken from Royal Road. Help the author by reading the original version there.

But Battle Royale is not only for conflicts between nations but also within nations. Different factions may propose a battle royale to solve disputes. Battle royale schools have also popped up to create the best of the best battle royale fighters. Battle royale as entertainment has also started gaining steam as battle royale ‘athletes’ for the sole purpose of competition and sports have emerged.

Here are the rules set by the gathering of nations for Battle Royale:

1. Battle Royale shall be done by teams of 4 individuals (group matches) or just single individuals (solo matches).

2. Group matches shall only be done if there are more than 5 parties competing.

3. Solo matches shall be done if there are more than 26 parties competing.

4. In the event of only 2 parties competing, a match of 50 vs 50 (or any other number) shall be done. If it is 3 parties competing, then a match of 25 vs 25 vs 25 (or any other number) shall be done. This rule goes on until 4 parties competing. The number of parties and participants shall be decided by a unanimous vote by the parties.

5. For all the rules above, the LAST group of contestants, and/or contestant standing shall be declared the winner.

The world of Yohraf was also divided by 4 continents and different races competing. Each continent housed an even number of 25 nations. There are two major battle royale events held in Yohraf:

1. Continental Battle: In each continent, a group match battle royale will be held with the final prize agreed upon first in a meeting held 6 months prior. This is held every 2 years.

2. World Battle: A solo match with representatives from each nations competing for a battle royale match of 100 different nations. The final prize is agreed upon first in a meeting held 1 year prior. This is held every 4 years.

In addition to these major events, there are smaller events held between and within nations.

The Battle Royale solution to conflicts have been deemed successful as many conflicts within and between nations have been solved relatively peacefully.
