0004 – I'm Not A Human Being Anymore

Although confused, Zoe Carter didn't stop her initial observation, experimentation, and recording.

The newly discovered eating issue needed to be taken seriously.

She almost immediately tried the foods available at home. Because she had just returned from celebrating New Year in the countryside Orel Province, more than thousand kilometers away, there weren't many food reserves in her house in Hamilton. However, there were still some easily stored foods. But without exception, all foods such as bread, rice, instant noodles, high-starch foods; a small amount of vegetables and fruits in the refrigerator, high dietary fiber foods; meats, eggs, high-protein foods... all tasted like wax.

There was even a faint feeling of nausea. Although the feeling of nausea was bearable, it was still noticeable. Tap water didn't induce nausea, but she also didn't feel thirsty.

This instantly made Zoe pale.

It was apparent that her body's instinctive reaction was to expel and reject these foods, as if her body didn't need them. If that were the case, from a survival perspective, she might never need to eat again in the future. This could be a good thing.

From a lifestyle perspective, however, it would be difficult for her to enjoy gourmet food again.

This was somewhat hard to accept.

Zoe was somewhat incredulous. But instinctively, the body was unlikely to deceive. That was probably the most correct and appropriate choice the body could make, often more accurate than the brain's judgment.

Perhaps... she really wouldn't need to eat in the future? Zoe had such a speculation. But what would happen if she didn't supplement external energy through eating? Could she survive unaffected?

Theoretically, the basic universal principle of energy conservation still needed to be followed, not eating didn't mean not needing energy supplementation. Otherwise, that would be too good to be true. Zoe was more inclined to believe that she didn't no longer need to supplement energy, but rather had some unknown, more advanced method of energy supplementation. It was more sophisticated than eating and difficult to discover.

But judging by the speed of physical recovery, its energy replenishment efficiency was likely much higher than eating. It seemed to allow her to seemingly miraculously stop the behavior of supplementing energy from the outside world, enabling her to recover strength at an accelerated rate.

This required further research.

Contemplating this, Zoe added two more plans. One was to explore and research the unknown method of energy supplementation, and the other was to search for foods that wouldn't make her feel like chewing wax.

The former was to reassure herself, and the latter was for her culinary desires.

And until the exploration of the unknown energy supplementation method was clarified, Zoe didn't intend to actively push herself to the limit repeatedly.

Her original plan to continue testing the limits of her physical recovery ability had to be temporarily shelved. After all, in this situation, that is, in the case of uncertain energy sources, she didn't want to push herself to an extreme level, for fear of complications. After all, she was still somewhat afraid of exercising herself to death directly.

In case the rapid recovery of strength drained the energy from that unknown source, causing her rapid strength recovery to abruptly stop midway through without knowing how many times she had recovered, she could very well die suddenly during the experiment.

If possible, Zoe would certainly remain as cautious as possible.

Coming to this conclusion, Zoe looked out at the pitch-black moonlit night outside the window, and at the text on her phone screen indicating "The twentieth day, thirty minutes past midnight."

She let out a long breath.

For her preliminary observation and experimentation over the past few hours, it was almost time to stop. Perhaps there were still deeper things yet to be discovered. But merely the changes discovered so far were enough to lead Zoe to an astonishing conclusion: she wouldn't feel hunger, she wouldn't feel tired.

She... seemed to be transcending the realm of humanity.
