Masquerade of Betrayal
2. A Mother and Her Angel

2. A Mother and Her Angel

"Dra, I think you really need to be absolutely sure about this. Yuda is a good person!"

Andra heard her friend, Ratih, speaking from the other end of the phone while driving her car. She still held the steering wheel of her black Honda Accord and had activated the speaker mode on her phone to talk to Ratih. Stopping her car at a red light, she then took a deep breath.

"Ratih, my husband has another phone that I didn't even know about until now... that's the first thing. Second, it's clearly his hand holding another woman's hand in the phone's wallpaper, complete with matching rings on their right ring fingers! The other woman on his WhatsApp clearly mentioned Yuda's full name yesterday. My husband definitely has another woman!"

Andra almost screamed as she replied to Ratih, her voice now strained. Her eyes welled up as she struggled to contain the emotions that were surging within her.

"Could it possibly be a joke?" Ratih asked again, still unable to believe Andra's words. "It's not that I don't want to believe you, but... Yuda really doesn't seem like the type of guy who would cheat. He's perfect with you and always appears happy. Even when your in-laws mistreated you, it was Yuda who always stood up for you, right? I'm just skeptical about all of this."

"Tih, maybe if Sonya didn't reappear in mine and Yuda's life, I wouldn't be this paranoid," Andra said again, mentioning the return of Yuda's ex-girlfriend to Indonesia. "Sonya is a good person, but before I married Yuda, she was truly Yuda's soulmate for eight years, Tih!"

Andra's hands trembled on her car's steering wheel. She looked both panicked and devastated when mentioning Sonya, Yuda's former famous pianist girlfriend with the full name Kanayla Sonya.

Sonya was Yuda's first love. They had been dating for eight years and were even engaged when Andra met Yuda six years ago at the headquarters of a well-known electrical company owned by Yuda's family. At that time, Andra was a new marketing staff at Yuda's office, where he himself served as the marketing director.

During those times, Andra rarely spoke much with Yuda, only occasionally entering his boss's office to report on their sales progress and tenders. However, everything changed when they both attended a company party one evening.

Andra, still mourning the death of both parents due to a single accident, forced herself to drink alcohol and got drunk. Meanwhile, Yuda -- who had a problem in his relationship with Sonya that night -- was also heavily intoxicated. Somehow, both of them ended up together.

The girl eventually lost her virginity to Yuda under the influence of alcohol, and since then, their situation became very complicated. Neither of them spoke again until two months later, when Andra was surprised by her own pregnancy.

When she broke the news of her pregnancy to Yuda, Andra was on the verge of sheer terror and extreme frustration. Fortunately, the man was willing to take responsibility for her, although he remained silent for a long time due to shock.

His relationship with Sonya crumbled, and when Yuda informed Sonya about Andra's condition, she immediately ended her relationship with him.

Sonya was a woman known to be kind by everyone and her fans alike. In fact, during the incident of Andra's pregnancy, she never blamed Andra at all and simply remained silent every time she met Andra.

However, Sonya's attitude was not the same with Yuda's parents. They strongly opposed Andra's presence and even refused to allow Andra to marry Yuda because they had already grown fond of Sonya as their own child.

Even until now, Anggara and Sukma Sasongko, Yuda's parents, still harbor resentment towards Andra and only show kindness to Nayla, their only grandchild.

After going through many dramas and tense conflicts, Andra finally officially married Yuda when her pregnancy was already five months along. Sonya, on the other hand, immediately left Indonesia and chose to settle abroad, only two weeks after Yuda's marriage to Andra.

After that, Yuda and his family could no longer reach Sonya, who seemed to have suddenly disappeared from their lives. Of course, initially, Yuda went somewhat crazy for a few months and treated Andra exceptionally coldly. He seemed to pile all the blame on Andra's shoulders at that time, and he wasn't even present at the hospital when Andra gave birth to Nayla. Nevertheless, after seeing their baby at home, he appeared to fall in love with their little angel.

Since then, Yuda's attitude began to soften. They started living happily after the birth of their daughter, and Yuda began to show his sweetness to Andra.

Andra also proved herself by becoming the top employee who closed many significant deals in their company, while Yuda, under his father's guidance, was appointed as the president director of their family business.

Just a year ago, Yuda asked Andra to quit her job to focus more on their daughter, who was suffering from speech delay, and Andra eventually agreed. She officially became a full-time housewife for her husband and daughter, sacrificing her soaring career.

Everything went smoothly for years until the fifth year, precisely a few months ago, when Sonya suddenly returned to Indonesia. Apparently, Sonya's financial life abroad had completely crumbled, and she had become a victim of abuse and fraud by her new boyfriend there.

All her assets were gone, and it took her a long time to gather the strength to return to Indonesia. She sought help from Yuda's parents as she was at the lowest point in her life. Yuda's parents, who had missed Sonya dearly, readily provided assistance to her.

Yuda, who was half shocked upon hearing about Sonya's return from his parents, politely informed Andra about it. He also sought permission from his wife regarding his family's plan to assist Sonya, ensuring there would be no issues between them.

Feeling guilty towards Sonya, Andra readily agreed without knowing that Yuda's parents placed Sonya in the same luxurious housing cluster as Yuda and Andra. Since then, Andra often felt uncomfortable in her own surroundings.

"Hello... hello... Dra? Can you hear me?"

Andra's reverie on the road was instantly broken, and now she heard Ratih's voice from her loudspeaker, accompanied by the blaring honks from behind. Andra glanced at the traffic light, which had turned green a while ago, and saw several drivers passing by her while yelling and cursing.

She quickly restarted her car, albeit looking a bit disoriented.

"Tih, are you still there? Sorry, I didn't catch what you said earlier. What did you say?"

"Be careful, don't daydream while driving," Ratih warned her friend. "I was just asking what steps you're going to take regarding Yuda."

"Did you ever tell me about that private detective your company used, what's his name... the former Police Commissioner?"

"Bram Sanjoyo?"

"Yeah, Bram!" Andra exclaimed, recalling. "Can I get his phone number from you? I want to ask for his help to investigate this."

"Andra, Bram doesn't take on private and affair cases," Ratih said hesitantly. "He's a private investigator specializing in internal cases for big companies."

"I know," Andra replied quickly. "But I'm willing to pay him the equivalent of what big companies pay if he's willing to help me. Please, Tih... give me his phone number and office address so that I can be more at ease about this."

Ratih then sighed. "Okay, I'll send you his contact number later. By the way, aren't you late for Nayla's kindergarten at this hour? As far as I remember, Nay usually comes home around eleven, right? It's already half-past twelve!"

"That's why I'm in a panic," Andra replied. "Because of last night's incident, I've been thinking a lot about my husband all day, and it's making me unfocused. I didn't sleep at all last night and accidentally overslept today. As a result, now I'm running late to pick up Nayla."

"Hopefully, Nayla is okay," Ratih said sincerely. "Anyway, you focus on driving first! We can talk later tonight. I'm also heading out for lunch with my colleagues now."

"Don't forget Bram's phone number, okay?"

Andra still heard Ratih agreeing to her request before she ended their phone call. Now, Andra turned her car into a large school compound.

Her black car moved slowly along the preschool area, situated on the side of the extensive compound of the most prestigious international private school in Jakarta.

She didn't immediately get out of her car when she noticed Nayla's teacher squinting at her from the front of the preschool lobby. After seeming certain it was Andra, the young woman ran toward Nayla's mother and greeted her through the car window.

"Nayla's mom? You're here?" the teacher asked with a puzzled expression. "I tried calling several times, but your phone was busy. I also called your husband, but he didn't answer. Maybe he's busy at his office, so... I had to call Nayla's grandmother because no one came to pick up Nayla. I feel sorry for Nayla."

"W-what?!" exclaimed Andra in shock. "Nayla's grandmother?"

Nayla's teacher nodded. "Nayla has been picked up already. It was about fifteen minutes ago."

Andra's eyes widened. If it was related to their granddaughter, Andra knew she would be scolded thoroughly by Yuda's parents if she was considered careless. Andra would undoubtedly be very frustrated to hear the painful judgment from Sukma — Yuda's mother — later.

In panic and haste, Andra then excused herself to Nayla's teacher and immediately drove her car to Yuda's parents' house. During the journey, Andra had to directly contact Sukma. The woman's heart raced as soon as she heard that her call was answered by Yuda's mother herself.

"Once again, you're careless!" Sukma immediately opened the conversation with Andra using harsh words that directly judged her. "You left Nayla stranded at her school for two hours. What kind of mother are you trying to be?!"

"M-Mama Sukma, I'm sorry... but earlier, I had car trouble on the road, and I was busy asking for help over the phone. That's why Nayla's teacher had a hard time reaching me," Andra replied, lying.

The matter would become more complicated if Sukma Sasongko — Yuda's mother — found out that Andra had fallen asleep during the time Nayla was supposed to be picked up from school.

"Nayla has speech delay, what if someone takes advantage of this?! You're truly an incompetent mother!"

Andra tried to ignore Sukma's scolding and attempted to remain patient.

"Now, where is Nayla, Mama?"

"How should I know where she is! I'm in Singapore, accompanying Yuda's dad for medical treatment, and I almost have a heart attack hearing about your behavior! I told Sonya to pick up Nayla. Just ask Sonya where your daughter is!"

"Sonya...?" Andra muttered, momentarily frozen in place.

"Who else could I ask for help to pick up Nayla besides her?! Yuda is in a meeting at his office, and you're busy with your phone. So, I had no choice but to ask Sonya to pick up Nayla because your houses are close to each other. She is much more trustworthy and reliable than you!"

Andra tried to hold back her tears and anger hearing Sukma's hurtful remarks. She then excused herself and ended the call with her mother-in-law, before opening WhatsApp to directly contact Sonya.

How surprised Andra was when she opened Sonya's WhatsApp, she immediately saw the strange latest status from the woman. Sonya had just posted a photo of herself hugging Nayla, accompanied by the caption, 'Kanayla & Nayla, a mother and her angel' on her WhatsApp status.

Somehow, Andra felt that Sonya did it on purpose. Not only did she refuse to contact Andra and inform her that she was the one picking up Nayla, but Sonya also posted a photo of herself with Andra's child on her WhatsApp — as if intentionally flaunting it.

Sonya clearly knew that her status could be seen by Andra, Yuda, and Yuda's parents. Because of that, Andra started to rage. With emotions boiling over, she immediately turned her car and now accelerated its speed to head straight to the house of her husband's ex-girlfriend.
