Chapter 6

Chapter 6:

I raised my new scarf to cover my lower face. This was my first ninja mission, and I needed to look the part!

I gently closed the rooftop door behind me and was plunged into almost complete darkness. There were no lights on this third floor that I could see, and all of the windows were boarded up. I didn’t think anyone was up here, but I still crept around quietly just to be sure. My Sharingan didn’t give me perfect night vision, but I could definitely see easier in the dark with it on. I had to be mindful of how chakra-intensive it was, though. I needed to be in and out of this place in 20 minutes before I ran myself dry of chakra.

From what Marcus had told me, all the kids were trapped in cages on the first floor close to the main entrance. If the third floor was abandoned, then most of the gang members would either be on the second floor or watching the kids on the first.

It wasn’t hard for me to find the stairwell down to the second floor; it was directly down the hall from the roof access. I took a step down them and froze when I heard voices nearby! Someone was coming up the stairs!

I quickly backpedaled and looked for a place to hide! There was a stack of worn-down boxes to the side of the stairs. I scooted behind them just in time and took a breath to calm my pounding heart! I was gripping my katana tightly and wondering if I was going to have to use it soon.

“Man, it’s dark as hell up here! I can’t see a thing!” One man complained as he emerged at the top of the stairs. I peeked around the boxes and could see he was fumbling around. His hands were in front of him, making sure he didn’t bump into anything.

“Why didn’t you bring your phone? You could have used it as a flashlight.” Another heavily tattooed gang member stumbled up the stairs behind him. This one was holding a small burning match with one hand and a box of matches in the other.

“My battery died. I forgot to charge it last night.” The first guy said.

“Uh huh. Yeah right, you were probably just watching hours of porn on it again…” The one holding the match replied. “Ow!” He dropped the match and stuck his burnt thumb in his mouth. “These matches burn too damn fast! I keep burning my fingers!” He complained loudly.

“At least you have matches. I can’t see shit.” The first guy complained. “Let's just check the roof so that we can get back downstairs. Chris said he thought he heard something loud up here!”

I grimaced. They must have heard me when I initially landed hard on the rooftop.

“It’s probably just a bird or something. Chris is too damn paranoid! He’s been all fidgety since yesterday for some reason.” The second guy said as he lit another match. The tiny flame barely provided him enough light to see a foot in front of him. It was enough though as he took the lead and started walking down the third-floor hallway.

At this point, both of the men had walked past where I was hiding and headed towards the roof access door. Neither had so much as glanced around anywhere since getting up here.

The first guy started snickering. “You don’t know what happened to Chris? He got his ass handed to him by a little mutant girl who then jacked his piece!” He finished with a laugh.

“The idiot lost his gun to a Mutant? Why is he in charge again?”

“Cuz the big boss seems to like him for some weird reason! Dont worry, Chris is an idiot and he’s bound to fuck up at some point soon. Then it'll be our time to shine!”

I was getting some interesting information here. Chris was the leader of this gang, but he had another boss who was above him. Neither of these two mentioned any hint on that person’s identity though as they kept talking and walking slowly.

I watched them both head towards the door and a devious grin formed on my face. The roof was 30 feet off the ground and the only way to access it was that door.

A door that locked from the inside…

“Let’s check the roof real quick and then head back down.” They opened the door wide and went outside. I radidly darted from my hiding spot and rushed towards the door. Whoever owned this building in the past took their security seriously. The door had three deadbolts and a large chain to keep it locked tight. I quickly slammed all three deadbolts into place before I started chaining the door to the wall.

“What the hell!? Who shut the door behind us!?” One of their panicked muffled voices came from the other side of the heavy steel door. “Derek? Is that you fucking with us? C'mon man, this ain't funny!

“Open the door, man! Seriously!”

I snickered as they started pounding on the door and trying to turn the locked handle. I was a bit concerned about the noise they were making by pounding on the door, but as soon as it started, it stopped. I tilted my head curiously when the pounding and shouting abruptly halted.

I shrugged to myself. They clearly thought another gang member was pranking them and they gave up for now. That worked out well for me.

With two members essentially taken care of, I headed back towards the stairwell to make my way to the second floor.

–Elektra–

“Sloppy…very sloppy.” Elektra muttered to herself with a sigh. Her future pupil was clearly going to need a lot of training. Both in combat and infiltration.

Elektra thought Satsuki’s improvised plan to trap the two men on the roof was clever, but the girl clearly didn’t account for all the noise they would make. They could have alerted the other gang members if they screamed loud enough!

Elektra made sure that didn’t happen of course. “You’re lucky I decided to follow along, pupil.” Elektra said to herself as she stared down at the bodies of the two men that she had just knocked unconscious. Usually, she would have simply killed trash like these two men, but she decided against that for now.

Her new future student was still an unblooded 14 year old girl, and Elektra didn’t want to risk traumatizing her. Elektra knew that she would have to slowly ease the girl into the harsher world of being a proper ninja. Not all enemies had to be killed of course, but not all deserved to be spared either.

Despite Satsuki believing that Elektra had left earlier, she had not. She had decided to follow Satsuki in secret so she could judge the girl properly. Elektra sure wasn’t expecting Satsuki to be going on a sudden rescue mission. This was a golden opportunity to see what the girl was made of.

And so far, Elektra was actually very impressed. Minus this one little hiccup of course.

Satsuki had been doing surprisingly well for an untrained girl who would probably just stumbled upon her mutant powers. Elektra didn’t know when Satsuki had become a Mutant, but she figured it was fairly recently. Elektra didn’t care about Satsuki’s Mutant status. If anything, it made her want to train the girl more. Satsuki had a strange energy flowing through her body that was very similar to Chi. From Elektra’s observations, it operated almost the exact same as well–except stronger!

Even when Elektra was a member of the Hand, she knew of very few Chi Masters who could leap up over 40 feet high in a single bound! And those were all masters who had trained their entire lives and had perfectly trained bodies. Elektra noted that Satsuki’s body had barely any muscle at all at this point. She wanted to see how far the girl could go with proper training!

Elektra walked over towards the edge of the roof and looked down. Satsuki had locked the door, so there was only one way inside the building now…

Elektra felt her Chi flow through her body as she stepped off the ledge and started plunging downwards!

If anyone was watching, they would have probably screamed, thinking she was trying to kill herself. Elektra knew what she was doing though. She'd jumped off hundreds of buildings in her life so far. After quickly dropping down 20 feet, Elektra grabbed one of her Sai and slammed it hard into the stone wall! With her Chi flowing into the blade, it slid into the stone with unnatural ease. Her fall completely halted.

She gripped onto the blade holding her with one hand while she reached towards a nearby boarded up window with the other. In one smooth motion, she ripped the rotted plank right off the window while swinging her whole body directly into the building!

Elektra landed quietly in a dilapidated room that hadn't seen any use in a while. There was dust and cobwebs everywhere.

Elektra quietly made her way towards the nearest door while spreading out her senses for Satsuki. She could sense Satsuki's unique energy as the girl made her way down the stairs. That was another thing she was going to have to train Satsuki on. Hiding her energy signature. To those who had a sixth sense for such things, Satsuki currently shined like a lightbulb in a pitch black room!

Elektra silently followed Satsuki to observe how the girl handled the remaining gang members. She was simply there to observe, but she would step in if things got out of hand.

–Satsuki–

I slowly crept down the stairs, knowing that there were probably a few gang members on this floor. I needed to hurry this up. My Sharingan had already been active for over 5 minutes, and I barely had 15 minutes of chakra left to spare at this point.

Unlike the third floor, this floor had working electricity. Not a lot, but there were enough working light bulbs for people to see. I'd have to be a lot more careful sneaking around. I crept my way down the hall as quietly as I could, passing a few empty doors before pausing when I heard voices from one in front of me and close to my right.

“What's taking those two up there on the roof so long?” I heard one man ask from inside the room.

Another one replied to him. “Eh, those two are probably just slacking off and smoking a joint up there.”

“Shit, man. I should have joined them. I need a buzz to get through all the whining those stupid kids are putting out down there.” Both the men in the room started laughing at that comment.

I slowly peeked my head around the door frame and looked inside. I saw two men sitting on a rotten couch. A couch that was facing directly away from the doorway.

They were making this too easy for me…

There was an old TV across from them playing some kind of game show. Both men were clearly engrossed in the show and not paying attention at all.

I crept into the room and slowly made my way behind the couch, my Sharingan laser-focused on both of their silhouettes. My hand was gripping the sheath of my katana tightly, ready to draw and attack if they so much as turned around. Luckily for them, they were focused on the tv and didn’t bother looking around at all.

Now directly behind them, I reached my hands forward. They hovered directly on the sides of both men's heads. I quickly grabbed the sides of their faces! With my enhanced strength, I slammed their heads together! It happened so fast that they couldn't fight back.

“Wha–” “Fu–”

They weren't able to get out any intelligible words before they both saw stars. Their heads made audible thuds as they both lost consciousness and slunk backward on the couch. I hoped these two assholes enjoyed the killer headaches they were going to have when they woke up.

I grinned it myself. This has been going surprisingly well so far! That was two more guys I just took care of, making it four total now. I was on a roll!

No longer needing to be so quiet, I hopped over the couch to take a closer look at the two gang members. To take a closer look at their stuff actually. Knowing I was still on a time frame, I quickly searched both of their unconscious bodies. Only one of the gang members had a gun on him. The other had a switchblade that I pocketed. I left the gun where it was. I didn’t need Shadow getting mad at me for bringing another one back home. I did remember to grab both of their wallets though! I wasn’t missing out on some easy cash.

I slipped both of those in my jacket pocket and made my way back into the hallway. There were still six guys remaining for me to take down before I could rescue all the kidnapped foster kids.
