Chapter 2 - Rene's Birthday and the System

"Happy 10th birthday, Rene!" I congratulate her, but I really want to know what her awakening did...

"Be honest, you just want to know what the system gave me." She chuckles lightly.

"C'mon sis, tell us!" My comrade Sor supports me in this great cause.

"Fine, fine, but it'll be better if I draw it out on paper." Surprising us both that she could write, I could only barely read! Rene got up from her chair going to grab paper. Wonder what the system was like, I'd only heard a couple of things about it, one, there was a status, and two, you get it on your tenth birthday Awakening. All the adults keep us in the dark about it, something about how it'll hinder us if we know. *Thump, thump, thump* I hear her footsteps start to come back our way.

"Back, give me a minute to write it all out." Rene said as she sat back down on her chair bringing the table closer.

[Welcome to the system! You are the official age for Wolf-kin and have been approved. Say 'Status' to get started.]

Then she flipped the page over and started to write down what she saw on her status.

Name: Rene Age: 10 Gender: Female Species: Wolf-kin Class: None* Level:0 Skills Attributes       Cleaning Level 2 CHA 6 STR 8(11) PER 7     Running Level 6 LUK 9 AGI 7 INT 7     Unarmed Level 3 VIT 7 DEX 7(12) WIS 7     Traits Child, Brute Titles None Virtues/Sins None

"Heh, you really are a brute." I laughed loudly watching even Sorrel chuckle a bit.

"Shuddup, or do you not want me to share anymore?"

"Ehh, please share!" Sorrel pleads for me.

"Well, since I'm the [Brute], you guys should help!"

"Well, try focusing on the asterisks for starters?" I offer up.

"Well... Alright."

Class* None Expanded:     Classes Available     Runner*     Unarmed Fighter*     Maid*

"Expand the classes?" I wanted to see the descriptions.

Rene nods lightly.

Runner Specialize in the art of running and become the fastest! Rarity: Lowest-Common Requirements Running Level 5, Agility 7+

"Definitely not taking that one"

Unarmed Fighter Fight your enemies with your body! Rarity: Low-Common Requirements Unarmed Level 5, All Physical Attributes 7+

"Not enough Unarmed yet sadly..."

Mai-

"Do we even need to talk about this one?" Rene looks quite annoyed.

"Yes! Maybe it'll be strong..." I said not even believing what I was saying but still curious.

"Fine."

Maid Specialize in cleaning and waiting on your Boss/Master/etc. Rarity: Low-Common Requirements Level 5 Cleaning, Level 5 Cooking, Charisma 7+

"Like I thought!"

"Ehh? At least that means there are more skills right? Rene?" I try.

"Alright..." She sighed.

"Well, shall we expand the attributes, maybe we'll get descriptions?" I offer up again.

"Give me another second then."

Attributes* Expanded: Charisma 6 Strength 11(8[Base] + 3 from Brute) Perception 7     Luck 9 Agility 7 Intelligence 7     Vitality 8 Dexterity 12(7[Base] + 5 from Child) Wisdom 7

If you encounter this story on Amazon, note that it's taken without permission from the author. Report it.

"Oh. It only expanded on what they were shortened from, and showed where the extra stats came from." I said disappointed.

"We should ask for advise about all this from mom" Sorrel reminds his sister.

And thus we start our 10 meter trek to get their mom up, it was early morning. *BANG BANG BANG*

"What did the door do to you, Ren?" I joke.

"I'm just not used to my new strength, okay!" She shouts back at me.

"If you say so..." I chuckled to myself, no need to yell and shout at me.

*rustling, creeeak* Ren's mom got up and opened the door slowly, still rubbing the sleep out of her eyes.

"Morning honey, what do you need?" She yawns.

"uhm, it's sis's birthday! Don't you remember?" Sorrel ever the diligent one reminds his mom.

"Oh! yeah, I remember. So why did you three wake me up so early?"

"Moooom, we want details on the system!" Rene reminded her excitedly.

"Oh. Right. Let's grab your father and make some breakfast first then..."

"I'll go wake up dad" Rene stated. She ran off to grab her dad Roan, while Sorrel and I were alone at the dinner table since their mom ran off to start cooking up some breakfast.

"What are your thoughts on the system, Sor?"

"I dunno, something which labels our abilities, maybe?" He says uncertainly.

"Then... maybe we could get super strong before our Awakening..." I tell him excitedly.

His eyes sparkle as he thinks about it.

"Then... how would we increase our Stats?" He questions me.

"Well, Ren has to get her stats from somewhere, right? So, I'm thinking if we train ourselves before awakening we'd get higher stats and skills." I talk quickly already wanting to get training.

"Obviously. But-"

"I'll have to stop you there sadly, let's wait for your father and sister." Their mom interrupted as she brought some eggs for us to eat, and some water. We wait in silence until the noise of excited running followed by muttering and slow thumps. They're here! Ren sat down next to us while her father drags a chair over and sits down with a sigh.

"Well. This was bound to happen eventually, and we both know Ren is going to leak everything to you two even if we say explicitly not to. May as well tell you everything now, well, where to start." Roan says to us seriously.

"How about where the system came from, a little history lesson." Cinder decides.

"The system wasn't always here, once upon a time no-one has stats or classes. Then the universe cracked. It started to let in Other worlds and souls from other universes that our world couldn't process. The gods had to make a solution quickly, there was no fixing the crack. They made the system so that everything could be monitored and to give strength to our universe to fight off other beings, monsters, and mutations. Everyone, including our universes monsters got the system, the system makes sure nothing will expand the crack or destroy the universe, while keeping us all alive. Attributes, or stats, is the system monitoring your Mind, Body, and Soul. Now, what do each of the stats do?" She took a breath before continuing on with her lecture.

"There are nine main attributes, Charisma, Luck, Vitality, Strength, Agility, Dexterity, Perception, Intelligence, and Wisdom. it's possible to get more stats, like Magic attribute which dictates how pure your mana is and the Mana attribute which dictates how much mana you have. No-one knows how many there are, but everyone has at least the 9 main attributes. Charisma is your way with words, how you posture and otherwise, it is not your physical Beauty. Luck is how much the fates weigh in your favor. Vitality is your overall health, with high vitality you could eat poison like it's normal water and be fine, it helps with your stamina and defense against stuff like cold and heat. Strength is how much you can carry, how much damage you can do with a single punch, it's your muscle. Agility is more abstract, with high agility you can react much faster, almost as if time is slowed down for you, and combined with high strength it increases your movement speed. Dexterity is how flexible you are, it'll let you easily do a back flip" She chuckles at that.

"Perception is your 5 senses, and more if high enough, it lets you hear, see, smell, taste, and feel all a little better. Intelligence is your brain's strength, if you're a mage it lets you cast more powerful spells, while Wisdom is how fast you can recover from it, Wisdom also increases with experience as a plus. Next, Classes. Classes are the system's way of giving you a role and providing benefits along with. My class is [Hunter] it provides me with +1 Dexterity, Agility, and Strength per level and increases my progression speed of Archery, Daggers, and Tracking skills by 10%. Of course these sort of bonuses are usually hidden until you pick it but you can guess them by the requirements and the class rarity. My class right now is level 7 normal-common rarity" Cinder proudly says.

"The rarity system is Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Legendary, Mythic, Divine, and Unique. Each of these has sub rarities, Lowest, Low, Normal, High, Highest, although the divide between rarities is big. A Highest-Common class wouldn't stand against a Lowest-Uncommon class unless the common class was very high level. Most people are happy with having a Normal-Common class, whereas any Lowest-Common class users are mocked. Every class has a Level cap, for Common classes, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, (Lowest, Low, Normal, High, Highest) which after reaching you can choose to abandon your class and stats gained from it for a better class."

"Ooo! What about the traits and titles? Apparently Ren's a brute!" I laugh loudly.

"Yes, yes, we're getting to that." She chuckles watching Ren get annoyed again.

"Traits like Rene's [Brute] are Attribute Focusing traits, they'll reward you for having one stat above the others and give you extra in addition to your base Attribute. Then there are others like [Child] which are temporary as you grow up because as children you all are very flexible. Next we have titles which are awarded when you do something special or persevere through hard times or after fighting in a war you may get the [Veteran] title, titles are rare compared to traits and can even be given when others recognize you for something. Say you kill a dragon, it isn't going to just give you the title [Dragon Slayer] you have to be well known for killing dragons, the [Dragon Slayer] title is apart of the [Slayer] series. Not all titles are good though, you'll get the [Coward] title after abandoning your team, a title like [Coward] may decrease your stats or even skills but usually it'll also increase a couple of stats. However there is a difference between being a [Coward] and a [Betrayer], one is on purpose, and the other is due to fear." Cinder sighs.

"Other times though you may get a title or trait which will actually award new stats! Being [King] or any noble/royal title offers the Regal sub-stat of Charisma. Now then, the final and most important part of the status. Virtues and Sins, these change your classes, skills, stats, depending on what virtue or sin you get it'll change everything. However most don't get a virtue or sin. Virtues are stuff like Loyalty, Humble, and other qualities seen as good. Whereas Sins are qualities seen as bad, these are qualities like Pride, Greed, Envy, etc. Example, if you have the sin of Wrath your classes would become stuff like; Wrathful Runner, Wrathful Unarmed Fighter, etc. Although some classes require a sin or virtue to be obtained, like Knight requiring the virtue of Loyalty. If you were to betray your loyalty as a Knight your class would become something like Fallen Knight and your Loyalty would change into Pride. If we go back to titles, they too can change your classes, if you were a [Knight] and became [King] you would be a [Knight King]." She finishs up.

"Wait! One more thing, the skills boosted by your class become Class Skills and often become stronger, now, any questions?" She was finally done, and we could ask questions. Immediately all three of us raised our hands, we all had questions.

"Well, Rene first because she's the one who's Awakened."

"How do I make the decision of choosing a class? As in, should I just choose one or should I wait for better classes?" Rene questioned her mom.

"Well, that's for you to decide honey, but show me your status and I'll help. Remember to never show your status to anyone but your loved ones because it is your strength and weaknesses." Cinder told her daughter seriously as Rene passed the paper to her.

"No need for that! Just think about sharing it to me, this won't work with the unawakened though." She said as she pushed the paper away.

"Well, I can see your dilemma, should you choose a class immediately and level up your skills or should you wait for a better class. Hm." She seems to be in quite the pickle.

"Dear, you forgot to mention the Tier system for classes." Roan seems exasperated.

"Oh yeah. I forgot about that"

"Every class also has a Tier, but most people won't be able to increase in tier due to the requirements, to Tier Up as it's called you have to comprehend your class and then add to it, whether that be a skill, a title, a trait, or even a virtue/sin, you yourself have to understand what it means to be the class. If you're a [Runner] you'd have to truly understand how to run, why you run, and the technique of running. Then you'd add to that after mastering your class. Depending on what you add the benefits and rarity will change this is a tier up. Technically there is no limit, at least no limit has been found, but after combining the [Runner] class with swords you'd have to also seamlessly master running and using swords together before being able to Tier up again. Classes start at Tier 1, unless passed down and taught which in that case you'd have whatever class was passed down to you, if several people managed to Tier it up it could be a Tier 5 class. This is why Knowledge is horded, because Knowledge literally is power. Our village has the tradition to not tell children much of the system before they turn 10 and have their awakening, just so they're more likely to awaken Virtues/Sins, traits, and titles all naturally. In this way they're more likely to know what they want to become, whether that be a [Baker] or a [Warrior] without anyone trying to make them choose one just because it's strong. I personally disagree with the complete silence about the system, and so does your mother, Marrok" She finished, none of us had questions and we were all exhausted. So I quickly said my goodbyes and went home, got in bed and passed out.
