Chapter 1: The End Of The Road.
She tried, she truly did. Though she had a good start in the industry, that wasn’t enough at all. Marissa refused to give in to shitty directors, who would only give her a role in their films as long as she slept with them.
“Sure, not every director is a terrible person, I am sure that most of them aren’t.” She thought with a sigh. In truth, the problem occurs when directors who do abuse their positions and power… end up highly respected.
All they have to do is… discredit the actor or actress that refuses to fuck them for a single role in their productions. Those few good directors don’t even realize that the people that they respect are so terrible and blatantly evil.
Getting roles was hard, but she put in the work, and Marissa eventually found some kind of success. This was short-lived, however. As those she refused to bed put their damn near infinite wealth into ruining her reputation.
She did not have the connections, nor the money necessary to fight off such attacks. Like all her hard work was pointless, Marissa was left with nothing in the end.
Though she wasn’t an idiot, so Marissa still had money in the bank. The woman wasn’t going to be broke any time soon. It’s not like she liked to buy anything expensive, either.
Still, having a ton of money left over was nice for the girl, but not what she wanted at all. Vanity or money… those aren’t the reasons why she tried to make it as a movie star.

Marissa loved the art form and wanted to express her love for it by acting. If she was motivated by money or fame, then the woman would have accepted the unspoken rules of the industry. Instead, the girl vehemently rejected those rules.
In the end, Marissa did not regret that she refused to sleep with all those directors. In her opinion, even disregarding how they ruined her, none of their films were worth shit in Marissa’s eyes.
“Corporate slop was all that they made. Were they even actually directors in the first place? All of their movies felt as if an office of rich asshole investors came up with the entire story… Granted, that is probably what happened.” She thought with a sardonic tone.
They did direct good films at the start, but that quickly ended. They didn’t need to really direct anymore, they just needed to slap their name on some script written up by soulless people.
No, I am not saying that being rich automatically makes you an asshole, or soulless. But to the investors, movies, TV shows, whatever, aren’t art. They’re an asset that they invested in, with the sole purpose of giving them more money than they invested in whatever project that caught their greedy eyes.
With such a huge money incentive, it stopped being about making art, and instead is about figuring out how to make the most money as humanly possible.
A long ramble aside, Marissa was attending a party. Not as an actor, but as just a random guest. Her friend needed a plus-one, and that ended up being Marissa.
Frankly, the girl was pretty bored the entire time. The party was held for the movie queen, Sarah Hall. Her acting credentials are insane and she is highly respected.
Like Marissa, she refused the unspoken rules of the industry, even speaking out against them. Though, unlike her, she was just such an amazing actor that it wasn’t possible for anyone to stop her rise to fame and fortune.
Sarah hadn’t shown up at all yet, even though the party started an hour ago. As Marissa started to feel sleepy, the guests got all excited, and Sarah walked into the event room…
