In a clean well-lit hall, a group of people wearing golden robes were sitting around a round table with serious expressions on their faces, one of them, an old man with a face full of wrinkles and a hug headset finally opened his mouth and said after a period of silence:
"Let's start this... We weren't contacted, it seems that They are going to deal with this... Whatever it is, on their own... Like They always do... That doesn't mean that we shouldn't try our best to help... Dolok... What did you find?.." The old man had a weird way of speaking, he would stop after each couple of words, and his voice was weak and gentle giving a calming effect.
His words were directed to a glasses-wearing middle-aged man, he had somehow of a frail body and a scholarly air around him, he nodded to the old man respectfully before saying:
"As we already know, around a week or so ago, They descended all around the continent and have been searching for something, over time, They have been concentrating their efforts on a single direction, abandoning all the others, it seems as if They have already caught on to a lead."
"Where are they heading?" A bearded man asked, he had a strong body full of muscles and his golden robe was sticking tightly to him.
"To the east, from their movements, Mistwyn," Dolok answered.
Mistwyn was a big city on the eastern side of the kingdom of Greenleaf, one of the kingdoms following the teachings of the Purity Church, in other words, another vessel.
"How is the situation... Around those parts..." The old man asked.
"Uncertain," answered Dolok seriously.
"What about the witches? How is their movement there?" The muscular man asked.
"...Unusually active..." Dolok answered with a small frown before adding:
"For some reason, we didn't notice that as it wasn't that clear, but a few things happened that made us turn our attention their way, and it seems as if something is truly happening around those parts..."
"What are the things that made you turn your attention towards them? And what did you notice?" A lot of people wanted to ask these questions, but before they even had the chance to do so the muscular man asked in an impatient voice.
"Of course, the first thing that made us turn our attention towards that region is Them heading there, and the other is a bit weird..." Dolok stopped here for a second before continuing with a sigh:
Unauthorized duplication: this narrative has been taken without consent. Report sightings.
"A young woman was accused of being a witch and was going to be burned but she was rescued by a witch..."
Before he could finish his words, the muscular man interrupted him in a high voice:
"She got rescued? And by a single which? What about the hunters? Did they fail against a single witch?"
"Lambert, I'm getting to that," answered Dolok while messaging his forehead, "As I said, the young woman was accused of being a witch, but she wasn't..."
Once his words fell, everyone in the room frowned deeply, a false accusation hasn't happened in decades, and the church was proud of that, hearing something like this made all of them sit straight.
"From our investigations, what happened was that a land steward took a liking to a young woman that lived in a small town close to Mistwyn, the young woman refused his advances and he couldn't accept that, so he bribed some people in the town to spread rumours about her, trying to pressure her into accepting him... She didn't and knowing that a priest from the church will be coming to examine her soon, the land steward did all that he could to bribe him too because if it ever was found that she wasn't a witch and that the rumours were started by him he would have faced a fate worst than death..."
The more Dolok spoke, the more the expressions on the sitting people's faces worsened.
"... So the priest made it there, the land steward bribed him and to hide their dealings, they did their best to burn her as fast as possible before anyone else come and notice what they did... Unfortunately for them a witch heard about that and went to save the young woman, the head priest of the church was mad and questioned the priest about what made him start the burning without the hunters being there, after a bit of investigation the priest finally cracked and the truth was out in the open..."
The big hall fell into silence before the old man finally said:
"Let all the people who were a part of this... Be burned in public in Mistwyn... And spread their story far and wide... Let people know the price they have to pay for things like this..."
Dolok nodded seriously at this, seeing that the old man continued:
"What about the witch?.. Any news about her?"
"No, we didn't find anything leading to her, but she did say something weird as she was leaving, she said, 'I will be back for the guilty',"
Just after he finished his words, he heard Lambert's strong loud laugh:
"No sane witch would return to a place like that, and even if she wanted to, she won't say that out loud, she probably did that to make the people involved panic, getting them to contact the church fast and stop them from thinking about a good enough excuse before doing so, even if they had the mind to stop and think, the normal people there won't and would do their best to get the church's help, quite a devious mind."
The people there nodded, they were all smart people and we're able to understand this point.
"Anyway," Continued Dolok, "As I said, the witches movements around those parts are unusually active those days, many of them were seen heading in that direction, many of them were spied around those parts too, we haven't seen this type of movement in a long time, a big coven might be preparing something, and Them heading there only makes this more of a pressuring situation."
"True... Send more hunters to Mistwyn... Let them be senior hunters... Things might turn bad there... It had been quite a while since the last time we saw Them move like this..." The old man said.
