When writing Graymoor, I wanted him to be the calm to Queen Azhane's storm. Thanks to his strong sense of loyalty and overall willingness to listen, he provides a sort of "safe space" for Azhane whenever she's going through one of her "episodes." She knows that she can rely on him regardless of the situation and this ultimately leads to significant growth for their relationship as a whole.
Also, I really wanted to make him as competent as possible. The trope of "weak/poor commoner soldier falls for the rich and royal queen/princess" gets played out way too often in my opinion, so I tried to avoid that. Sure Graymoor is a subordinate to the Queen, but he is by no means poor or weak. Not only is he regarded as one of the best swordsmen in all of Alaira, but he's also from a well known military family, and he's a member of The Six. By all accounts, Graymoor Penult is an incredibly special individual that needs no support from anyone.
Thanks for reading!!!
