Chapter 10

Chapter 10

James was able to help Susy with a technique many mages use to guide future generations in building their core and gain their first class. He had seen in his past life that mages would flood a sealed room with a specific element then a young person who had an affinity for that same element would be locked in using any teachings they received to create a core. This method mainly works for the core creation and first class because future class upgrades involve having multiple spells leveled, time for growth, essence gathering to level a class (explained with monster cores later), and understanding of how spell choices impact class changes.

This technique for the first class is also how the empire and schools trick people into taking specific classes. If convincing someone to take a class isn’t successful, they will instead flood the room with the element of their own choice making it impossible to change. Susy regardless of what she wanted would have been brought to a room that was flooded with the holy element. While it would have taken longer and been tougher, she would have ended up with a holy element class instead of the her major affinity nature. Besides its difficulty it would have greatly hindered her future class upgrades and weakened any nature elemental magic she could use. With a class focused on a minor affinity it impacts any spells that match the element making them weaker also limiting choices. So instead of becoming an apprentice holy mage she might have received the class apprentice holy healer which would dictate her path. Most likely she would be educated on healing spells and be put into the healer ward because she lacked the ability to defend herself.

“Did it work, and did you get your class?” James asked.

“I do not know. I do feel different but how can you tell?” Susy looked confused barely keeping her eyes open. She obviously was running off fumes by this point, considering it took everything her to successfully create her core.

“Calm yourself and focus on finding that element you felt when James helped you. Look to the same place where that element was guided towards by you and look for any changes. Once you find it check for any system messages you may have received,” Emily responded while still skeptical but holding a look of joy. She realized it was a success because she could physically see a green tint in the air that surrounded Susy but still did not know how James was able to create it.

“Hmmm… There is something there and when I focus on it, it makes me feel the same way when brother was talking about a forest. When I focus I can see a green ball inside me but it is a bit of fuzzy,” Susy said. She then checked her system messages and with a huge grin she excitedly informed them that she was now an apprentice nature mage.

“Congratulations Susy! This is the first step to becoming a mage and there will be lots to learn and I will always be there for you. In school you will learn about meditation which will help you in being able to visualize your core and create spells. Also you can still learn some holy spells but now when we go to school, they won’t be able to trick you,” James responded with a big grin.

“Thank you, brother!” Susy’s quickly replied before jumping to give him a hug as she suddenly fell asleep in his arms.

“Well, I do not know how you did it but thank you James. It is often that many different classes are gained through luck and different stimuli so we can use the excuse of it happening from the excitement of being picked for school. I won’t ask about how you could use a different element than ice or wind but just know I will always be here for you,” Emily responded giving James a pat on the head.

James gave Emily a grin and excused himself to bed feeling completely exhausted. Reflecting on the past month he had many questions on his mind. 'Have any positive changes happened over the years? Why was I reborn in this body? Am I making the right choices?' But not much can be done about getting answers now so he reminded himself to take things one step at a time as he fell into the comforting darkness of sleep.

All the kids who got accepted into the different tier schools had a week to prepare before they would meet and eventually split up. There they would meet the school representatives that would be leading them on their journey to their future academy.

The world has changed since James's last lifetime and he planned to take his time to figure out what those changes were. The system seemed to be an intricate part of every person's development no matter their path and was one thing that had James worried. His class is unconventional and while during his last life he focused on a single element, this time he hoped would be different. James planned to be diverse by picking spells with different elements and he wanted to make the most of his class to the best of his ability.

Emily and Roy ended up informing the kids that the school they would be attending was called Xavier academy. They would be traveling with them and they planned to settle into the city Anephis which was where the academy was located. With James being healthier and going to school, Emily could find more work and this would give their family an extra source of income. Also, Jon his older brother is attending a low tier school because of his class, and James came to find it was in a lower end city only a couple days travel from Anephis city in the eastern quadrant. This helped Emily and Roy in making their decision because it would allow them to be closer to all of their kids.

The town of Othar and the city Anephis are in the eastern quadrant of the Euronar kingdom. The capitol Raugon which is known as the heart of the kingdom is located in the center of four quadrants which are named by there direction they face from the capitol.

Overall, James was happy with the news and decided it was a about time to learn some spells to keep his family safe while they traveled.
