Alaskan Kingdom, Violet Continent
Brian was having breakfast with his parents. Brian is 9 years old and has been an outer door disciple at War Academy, the only cultivation school in the entire Kingdom of Alaska. Anyone with at least mediocre talent at qi cultivation must attend the academy as the level 1 cultivator is four times more powerful than a non-cultivator. Every child at the age of 7 is taken to give a Cultivation test. A cultivation test is used to determine the child's talent in absorbing the qi and also the control over it. If the child has more than 30% affinity to qi, he/she is eligible to attend the War Academy. There are 7 primary elemental qi: Fire, Water, Wind, Earth, Lightning, Darkness and Light. There are also advanced elements: void, space and time. The advanced elements can only be placed after one attains level 100 (that is saint level). One in 1000 people has cultivating talent. People generally wish their children to have more than 50% affinity to qi as this means that they are free of taxes and their reputation increases within the clan.
Brian had 65% affinity to lightning qi and 20% affinity to the remaining elements as affinity to elemental qi less than 30% is considered waste. Among the cultivators, lightning affinity is considered the rarest as it But it is worse than a guy with 40% affinity to any of the other elements. It is because lightning qi is generally concentrated near thunderclouds. So it is harder to absorb them. But a guy with any other elemental affinity can easily progress well in the path of cultivation as the other elemental qi are generally present in abundance. Brain was the only guy with lightning affinity in the whole academy. He was constantly ridiculed because of that. He was considered the first from last in the outer disciples rankings. Even the teachers considered him as a trash and the academies’ resources are wasted on him. If it were not for the country law he would have been thrown out of the academy. Brain is from the branch family of the Black Dragon sect. It is at the border of the Alaskan Kingdom. Alaskan Kingdom is a peninsular region(A peninsula (Latin: paeninsula from paene "almost" and insula "island") is a piece of land that is bordered by water on three sides but connected to mainland.). His father was a fisherman and his mother cultivated herbs. Children are allowed to cultivate from the age of 7. It is because the qi may damage the meridians resulting in crippling. His father always taught him to be righteous and to forgive people for their mistakes.
In the clan, children from the age of 4 are taught to read and made to do physical exercises to strengthen the body and mainly the meridians as it is vital for cultivation. His parents hoped that he would have cultivation talent because his living conditions would improve.
Brain clearly remembers the day of the cultivation test. His parents woke him up early in the morning to stand in the line for the test. His parents were really anxious than him. But they tried their best to hide it. “Brian, you should never feel disheartened if you don’t have cultivation talent. It is just a matter of luck. We always are there for you.” said his father. Brian felt blessed for having such loving parents. They went to the clan’s main hall and stood in the queue. Generally an official from the War Academy visits each clan to conduct the test as the equipment for testing is not generally affordable by small clans. The test started. The official said:”The first one come.” A boy went up. The official said:”Keep your hand on the ball in front of you”. The boy placed his right hand on the crystal ball. As soon as he kept his hand on the crystal ball it started glowing and a number in bright red color appeared above the crystal ball. The number was 40. The official announced:”40% Affinity to fire qi. Passed. Here is your admission token. Bring it to the academy two months from now. Next”. The boy collected the token and went off to his parents. He was really happy and his parents were really happy as their reputation in the clan would increase. Then a girl went to the podium. She placed her hand on the crystal ball. The crystal ball did not glow. “No qi affinity. Failed”. The girl did not cry as if she was expecting the result. Her father also sighed and went away with her. And the queue was getting shorter and shorter.

It was finally Brian’s turn. He placed his hand on the crystal ball and it glowed bright yellow color. It showed 70. And a bright red light showing the number 20, a blue light showing 22, a black light showing 19, a brown light showing 25, a green light showing 27, a white light showing 17 burst out. The instructor frowned a let out a sigh and said:”Affinity to lightning 70%, affinity to fire 20%, affinity to water 22%, affinity to darkness 19% , affinity to earth 25%,affinity to wind 27% and affinity to light 17%. Passed.”. He handed over the admission token to Brian. People started complaining that it was impossible to cultivate lightning qi and the next highest affinity was 27% which is less than the eligible one. The official said: “The rule clearly states that a person with more than 30% affinity to any elemental qi is to be given admission.”.
People were looking at him with eyes filled with hatred and jealousy. The situation was far worse than the one in which he did not possess cultivation talent. His parents assured him that everything would be fine.
“Son, don’t care about what others would think. You always have to give your 100% no matter what the circumstances are. Where there is will, there is away”, said his father.
After that Brain worked harder than anyone else to improve his cultivation. He was constantly being ridiculed at the academy but always thought of his parents and endured the constant ridicule. He reached level 6 in wind qi cultivation as he constantly worked on his best chance. The students who joined the academy with him have reached the soldier realm. But this did not discourage Brian.
Now he is on his annual vacation. He was cherishing each and every moment with his parents. He wished that he could freeze time.
But fate had other plans.
