Slow Day

Chapter 18: Slow day

----------------------------------------

Compatibility. A state in which two things are able to exist or occur together without problems or conflict. This had a meaning for animals as some pairings were not compatible, which meant they could not conceive. For instance a lion and wolf were unable to have any kin of their own. That's what it was supposed to be, that's what the mammals assumed based off what was learned from the old world, but apparently evolution changes that. Even though they knew, or rather thought, they were incompatible, certain pairs didn't let that stop them from falling in love and making it. Pregnancy came and kids were born, kids bearing major traits from one parent and minor from the other.

Of course, this had to be studied to ease confusion and curiosity. It was discovered that there was now concord amongst all species, the change in their DNA allowing such. This left no boundaries in mates, but nothing new in breeds. Since the minor traits were either some features like nails, feet, fur, or something more arbitrary like improved hearing they weren’t considered a new or mixed breed, more so classified as a variant.

Since there were no boundaries in mates there was also no boundaries in Meta Abilities mixing. If both parents were Meta’s there was a high possibility of the child having powers, the same said for the powers they have having similar traits from their powers. What the Faction of Study found odd the most was the fact that there was more of a chance of new powers being created then inherited even if one parent was a Meta. There were a few acceptions, Abilities that were passed down for generations, like they had a purpose. They were called: Bloodline Meta’s.

----------------------------------------

Mitch pulled into Jackson’s driveway. The sun was high up, a little past noon for those in Dominion. Jackson, Mitch, and Anet exited the vehicle, heading inside the home.

“Now remember,” Mitch said to Anet, “whatever we do, we never what?”

“Never anger the short cat!” Anet positively answered.

“Good!”

Jackson unlocked and entered first, “Definitely don't call him sh-”

One step in and Gary let out a: “HYAH!”

“GOFAGH!!” The end of his Uncle's staff thrusted right into his stomach, knocking the wind out, “URK!” He keeled over in agony while Mitch and Anet watched in terror, backing away.

Gary stood over Jackson, radiating his deadly aura, glaring at his nephew, tapping his staff on the ground, asking: “So…wanna tell me what exactly happened?”

“Wh-...” Jackson groaned, lifting to meet his gaze, “What do you mean?”

With another angry tap, he restated: “What happened during the trial run?”

“I…I was using the Hyper Jet and got A-Loc'd. Afterwa-”

“Why did you get A-Loc'd?”

“Huh?” The question confused him, “What do you-?”

“As soon as you got just a little dizzy, you should’ve realized something was wrong! While your ears were ringing and your brains bugging, why didn't you stop!?”

“Uh…I…” Dropping his gaze downward, there was a tinge of guilt and conflict on his face.

“You were lucky! If Cleansing wasn't there,” he stepped forward, tapping his finger on Jackson's head, “You. Could, Have. DIED!”

“...” His words stung, cutting into him deep, scrunching his face.

“Now…explain!”

“...I…I was excited.”

“Huh?” He raised a brow.

“It was something dad made for me… He…he always loved seeing me test out the new machines he designed…so I just…wanted to see what it could do.”

Gary kept his gaze, his aura festering still until, “...Oh jeez,” he sighed, kneeling and calming down, gazing at his nephew softly, “...You are your dad’s son.”

Surprised by the response, Jackson looked at his uncle with confused shock, “Huh?”

“He was always giddy with the toys he made, going days without sleep to fix out the kinks. Before he met Tania, I was afraid he’d never break that habit,” he smirked, “Guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.”

“Heh, guess not,” Jackson smirked as well.

“Hm,” Keeping his smirk, he ushered Jackson to get closer.

“Hm?” Jackson leaned forward, “PLOUFT!!!” A sharp and oh so painful hook nailed him square in the face, knocking him back. He slid right up against the door with a small bit of blood coming out his mouth.

“Remember that pain,” he stood up, “If you EVER think about doing something reckless like this again, expect it to be quintupled. Understood?”

“Y-...yes sir.”

“Hm,” Satisfied, he turned and headed to the kitchen.

Mitch approached Jackson, looking down at him and asking: “You need a minute?”

“Hrm…” Jackson let out a painful groan.

Anet was shaking in her spot, thinking loudly: ‘DON’T ANGER HIM, DON’T ANGER HIM, DON’T ANGER HIM!!!’

“Go ahead and get yourselves settled in,” Gary announced, “I’m gonna be making lunch.”

“Oh,” Mitch perked up, “Whatcha making?”

“Chicken soup.”

“Eh? But no one's sick.”

“Huh?” Gary back, confused, “Who says chicken soups only for when you're sick?”

“Laws of soup.”

Shaking his head, Gary returned to the kitchen, “What are you, a soup lawyer?”

Mitch smirked, “With years of experience!”

“Uh huh.”

Mitch looked over at Jackson who was getting up, “World stop spinning?”

“It did,” Jackson replied, rubbing his cheek.

“You ok,” Anet asked with some concern.

“I'm fine. He hit more forcefully than usual, but I’m fine.”

She stiffened, “Th-then usual.”

“Yeah.”

“He doesnt send you flying like that huh? Well not much anyways,” Mitch laughed.

“Yeah and usually there's bruises instead of blood?”

“No no, there's blood a few…times.” As he spoke, he noticed Anet’s increase in vibrations.

“Do not anger the cat, do not anger the cat, do not anger the cat!” She repeated.

Jackson gazed with some concern and guilt, “I think we’re scaring her.”

“Let’s head to your room,” Mitch suggested.

----------------------------------------

At the dinner table, Gary was passing out bowls of chicken soup with vegetables.

“Thanks Uncle Gary,” Jackson thanked, taking his spoon, and eating.

Once Anet got her bowl, she fervently bowed with a squeamish look, saying: “Thank you, sir!”

“Hm…” Gary, staring right at the mouse, reached out to her.

“Eep!!” Shaking, she scrunched and shut her eyes, “Hm?” His hand made contact with her head, gently rubbing it.

“You’re welcome, dear,” He warmly smiled.

“E-eheheh,” Feeling her fear dissipate, she couldn't help but smile herself.

Lastly, Mitch got his bowl, “Thank you, my good man! GAH!” Gary’s fist dug right into the doberman's side, “Sir! Sir!”

“Dumbass,” Gary commented, sitting at his spot.

‘He’s still scary!’ Anet thought with a shiver.

“So what are you gonna do when you go in tomorrow?”

Jackson answered: “Since I gotta fight Nina the next day, I wanna take it slow. Mitch found a few Escort requests for the police for Meta convicts and I’m thinking of taking them since the convicts are low risk and not high profile.”

“Oh, good job finding those, Navi boy.”

Mitch tilted his head down, “Now he’s calling me that.”

“Yeah and I won't be alone, so good chance to mingle with some co-heroes.”

“Have you chosen who to escort?” Anet asked.

Jackson shook his head and explained: “Mitch and I are gonna look at them after lunch.”

“Won’t you miss out on opportunities?”

“Nah,” Mitch answered, “The slots aren't permanent, you can always ask the Hero if they’re willing to switch out.”

“Oh really? Are there alot for tomorrow?”

“Not many specifically just for Sky Limits, but enough.”

“Just for Sky Limits?”

“So some escorts can have multiple be involved, mostly for those of high risk, but for the low ones it’s typically done by the agency that’s holding them.”

“Ok,” Anet nodded, interested in the topic, “So how do escorts work?”

“How they work is pretty simple,” Jackson replied this time, “A Meta or a few depending on the villian, tag along with the police who are taking them to Max cell. The police are the backup while the Hero or heroes are the main guard basically. If all goes well it'll just be a quick trip from point A to point B.”

“Huh, so how often do escorts happen?”

“Typically daily,” Mitch shrugged, “Though how much daily, that fluctuates. Meta villains are held in the cells for a day, given time to be talked to slash interrogated, like how we did you, then taken to Max’s.”

“So basically the agency cells are like jails while Max cells are like prison?”

“Kinda. Agency jails are more like temporary jails and interrogation rooms if anything.”

“Don't police have those?”

“Yeah but they're for regular bad guys. Better for a Meta to interrogate a Meta cause well…power balance. Meta villains tend not to be intimidated by regular mammals.”

“Makes sense.”

“Mhm, the info is collaborated with the police so it can be sent to lawyers and such. Villains still get trials.”

“Like mine.”

“Yours was a Quick Trial, not the usual kind remember?”

“Oh yeah. I'm glad I got a nice judge. He was worried about Mitch being my handler though since he wasn't a Meta.”

“And that he’s a weakling,” Gary commented.

“Hey!” Mitch exclaimed.

“Well I couldn’t be set since I'm private, and I'm guessing Uncle Ferris decided it best to be Mitch since he managed to talk to you.”

Anet smiled, looking at Mitch happily, “I’m glad he did! I'm really happy with Mitch!”

Mitch was surprised by her response, “R-really?”

“Yeah! I have such a great time with you!” She giggled.

“O-oh,” He blushed, shyly looking away, “I-I’m glad.”

Gary took the moment to give a blow, saying: “Huh, maybe Mitch won't be single for next ten years,” His comment made Jackson choke on his soup.

“What's that supposed to mean!?”

Anet curiously tilted her head, “What DO you mean?”

“Nothing,” Gary nonchalantly replied with a casual sip of his soup.

----------------------------------------

The rest of the day went by like a casual hangout, the trio watching some tv, playing a game, one of cards that Gary was involved in, demolishing them in it to the point where they asked if he cheated to which he challenged them to prove it. After switching to something they had a better chance at, they took the rest of the day finding an escort mission for Jackson to take, then taking the time to explain to Anet about Jackson’s situation and why he’s hiding as a private Meta.

The author's content has been appropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.

“So,” Anet asked, “What was Ferris gonna do if you weren’t in that accident?”

Jackson answered with a chuckle: “He was gonna have Uncle Gary unlock that seal before time ran out.”

“Time?”

“Moms seals have an eight year limit, and before that limit came, My uncle was supposed to break the power seal some time before that, so the memories won't overwhelm me.”

“Oh, so plans got moved…wait…didn’t you say the first seal unlocked…when you're in a near death experience?”

“Mhm.”

“And…youre saying…you're uncle…was gonna…break it.” Softly she was shaking while getting stiff.

“U-um,” Mitch noticed and tried to keep her from panicking, “Gary would never kill Jackson! He’s insane, but he’d never go that far!”

Jackson joined in: “Y-yeah, he’d just use an intense scare tactic!”

Even with their attempts, Anet still shakily said, “He’s scary!”

“H-hey!” Getting close, Mitch took out his phone, “I just remembered, we haven’t watched that spinoff for Shadow Assassin!”

“S-spin off?”

“Uh huh! The one with those two from the rival faction!”

“They…” her shaking calmed down a little, “made a spin off about that?”

“Yep! Five episodes are out already!”

“Five?” Eyes lighting up, her fear going away.

“Yeah, I wanted to wait til more was out til we co-watched it but eh screw it, wanna watch it now.

Anet nodded rapidly. “Let's watch it!”

“Sweet!”

Jackson sighed, relieved of the dissipated tension, “Nice work, Papa Mitch.”

“Papa Mitch?” She raised a brow.

Mitch annoyingly glared, “I aint old enough to take care of kids!”

“Kids…” With a solemn expression, she looked down at nothing in particular.

“Anet?”

“Huh? I-Im ok, ready to watch?” She smiled.

“Yeah,” He brought up the design for a large tv with bluetooth, showing it to Jackson.

Jackson looked at him confused, “What are you-?”

“Flat Screen please.” He softly smiled.

“Hmm.” Jackson frowned.

----------------------------------------

Mitch laid on a blow up mattress near the couch which was pulled out into a bed of its own which Anet was atop of.

“Thanks for letting us sleep here for the night,” Mitch said to Gary.

Gary nodded, “Remember, stay in your bed, for you Mitch, and wake me up, you’ll be heading to the hospital instead of the agency.”

“Yeah I gotcha,” Mitch sighed.

“Goodnight,” Shutting off the lights, Gary headed to his room.

“Night, Anet!”

“Goodnight,” Anet told Mitch. Mitch closed his eyes but Anet stayed on her back, holding her blanket, gazing at the ceiling. She took the time to reflect on the day on the stuff she learned and witnessed. Learning that Jackson was Artisakat, learning about his past, bits about his parents, his relationship with Ferris, and his drive to be a hero. Thinking about all that also made her think about Mitch, how he's told her about his desire to be a navigator when he was young, the work he put in for it, and his unshaken will to be the best Navi for Jackson. As her thoughts trailed on the two it also trailed to other Mammals, adult ones from shows she and Mitch watched, or just heroes she’s witnessed in the agency or just heard about. She just couldn't help but admire how mature they all were, the words stated from earlier, papa and kids, floating around her. “....Mitch?”

“Hm?” Mitch hummed out, trying to slumber.

“...You think…I can grow up?”

His eyes stayed closed but he furrowed his brows, “Hm??”

“Is it possible for me?”

“...I mean…everyone grows up as the years pass. Besides your already eighteen so your pretty close to grown up sta-”

“Am I though?”

“What?” This time his eyes opened.

“...When…when my dad died…my mom…” She tightened her grip on the cover, “she was so scared of losing me…scared of me growing up and leaving her…that…she stopped me from growing.”

“Anet…”

“She could only affect so much of me…but…it worked in a sense…I always wonder how tall I was supposed to be…or if my whiskers were supposed to be longer…if my eyes were supposed to be sharper…my snout longer…and my mind…less…childish.”

“...It's not that you can't still grow.”

“Can I?”

“Huh?”

“Remember how you had to talk to my grandmother about my whole situation? The way she talked to me, told not to cause any more trouble, and follow what you say?”

“Yeah…she didn’t seem all that worried..or caring…sure groaned alot…”

“I've been with her for years…but still she sees me as the kid she first took in…I was with her for three years…” Her voice started to crack, “but still she acts the same as when she first got me…will I be like this forever?...Forever a ch-”

“Y'know I still laugh at fart jokes.”

“Huh?” Confused by the sudden statement, she turned her head in his direction.

“Fart jokes…they still make me laugh sometimes…and they don't have to be real good ones and I'll still let out a chuckle.”

“I…Why are you bringing that-”

“I'm a goofball, you've seen it. You've seen how much Jackson hits me for being Silly, making my snarky jokes and such…and y’know I'm actually older than him.”

“Really?”

“By just about a year.”

“I didn't know.”

“Heh…I still play jokes on the guy, mess with him, play some pranks, all that.”

“....Why are you telling me this?”

“Because,” he looked her way, “I'm basically an adult, and yet…I still do those childish things.”

“Oh.” Her eyes opened up a bit more.

“Anet, there are plenty of adults out there that have that childish side of them, plenty of mature people that still got some of those antics. That doesn't mean they haven't grown. They still got that mature side of them, like how I acted when Jackson got A-loced.”

“So…” She looked away, “You agree I can't grow.”

“...I'm saying going in to stop those bots from leaving that garage before Jackson could get there and promising to keep his identity a secret…was a real grown up thing to do.”

“Ah!” A gasp escaped her lips, looking back at Mitch's way, astonished.

“Don’t think just cause you got a childish side, that you can't grow…I say you’re growing pretty well.”

“....” A smile crept on her lips, “Thank you.”

“You're welcome. Now,” he stretched, “let’s get some sleep.”

“Right! Night, Mitch!” Anet pulled the covers up on her and closed her eyes.

“Nini Anet,” Mitch turned to his side and went to rest.

----------------------------------------

Next day

Mitch and Anet got off the elevator. They were a floor above the Briefing Room floor, the layout looking similar but each door had the letters MBR plastered on the doors with a number and they were spaced further.

“What's this floor?” Anet asked.

“Multi briefing rooms. When Meta heroes of the same agency are collabing on a mission, this is where their Navigators go. Saves up space and bandwidth,” He explained while directing them to room eight, tapping his M-key against the pad. The room had a few differences compared to the regular briefing room. It was nearly twice as big with a wide U-shaped table in the center with six computers placed around all facing the large screen in the front, behind it being a long straight table with chairs facing the front. At the computer table were two other mammals, a male Doberman mix with antlers and a female badger, both in uniform.

“Morning,” the badger waved,

“Hey there!” The Doberman nodded and smiled.

“Heya!” Mitch waved.

“Um…Hi,” Anet timidly waved. Mitch told her it was ok to be there but she was still nervous, following said canine to the table.

“Mitch, Navigator for Artisakat. This is,” he gestured to the mouse behind him, “Anet. She’s…well she's in my care,” choosing his words carefully, he hoped word about her didn’t spread.

“Nice to meet you.” The badger extended her hand, shaking Mitch's hand. “I’m Lila, Navigator of Kanashi.”

The antlered Doberman shook next, introducing himself as, “Arthur, Navigator of Quarter Burst.”

“Nice.” Mitch took a seat in the middle, inserting his M-key and setting himself up.

Anet was going to sit next to him, but Lila stopped her saying, “Um, I don't think we can have you sitting there.”

Mitch raised a brow, “Why not?”

“It's um…” With a nervous smile, she tried to be delicate, “It's not related to her…situation, really, but-”

“Oh boy,” Arthur groaned and facepalmed.

“I just think it'd be better if she sat at the other table. Generally this is for the Navigators only.”

“O-oh,” Anet took a step back, disheartened.

Mitch defended with: “It’s not like we can’t have anyone other than a Navigator here. As long as she doesnt mess with the computers, which she won't, I've always had her next to me before and there's been no problems.”

“I understand that bu-” With a bit of a pleading look she tried to argue back until Arthur spoke.

“Lila,” Arthur spoke, “just let her sit there. There's no rule against some mammal just sitting at the Navigator table, besides he’s her handler, so best to have her close right?”

“I mean…I guess, but…y’know what nevermind, the Police should be arriving soon.” Letting it go, but still looking uncomfortable, she went to her computer. Arthur shook his head, going to his screen as well.

Mitch patted Anet. “Take a seat, Anet.”

“O-ok,” Anet, uncertain, went to sit between Mitch and Arthur.

When she sat, Mitch gave Lila a small side glare before going to his set up, connecting. “Artisa, you hear me?”

----------------------------------------

Jackson was in the garage of Sky Limits, in the back area with the heroes Kanashi and Quarter burst, “I hear you,” he told Mitch.

“Kanashi?” Mitch asked.

“Loud and clear!” Kanashi answered.

“Quarter-burst!”

“Hut hut!” Quarter-burst replied.

“Alright, I’m all synced.”

“Artisakat, do you read me?” Lila questioned.

Jackson nodded, “I read.”

“How bout me?” Arthur radioed.

“I got you.”

“Alright, everyones patched in. I'm Arthur by the way, Kanashi’s Navigator.”

Lila introduced, “I’m Quarter-bursts Navigator, Lila, nice to meet you.”

“Same.”

“Transport is about three minutes away. Who wants to get the Villian?”

“I'll get him,” Quarter-Burst offered, “I caught the guy so I'll do it.” He walked over the secured door and used his M-key to open it.

While he was getting the Mammal for escort, Kanashi approached Jackson, asking, “So, Artisakat, how you feeling?”

“Oh, I’m feeling alright, other than being a bit stiff,” Jackson answered.

“Yeah, I heard what happened yesterday. Lucky you a hero was nearby.”

“Right?” he chuckled, “This is my first escort, should I expect anything?”

“Eh,” Kanashi waved off, “this is only a level one escort, so it should go pretty smoothly. Still you gotta remain vigilant just in case, but at the same time don’t be too anxious.”

“Got ya.”

“Now when the truck gets here, one of us is gonna be inside with some officers to keep an eye on the guy, the other two will be on the outside, trailing the truck, taking care of any outside assailants and such.”

“I can fly, so I can take the outside above the truck.”

“I'll take the inside,” Quarted-Burst announced, pushing a light colored badger in front of him. His arms were bound behind and there was a muzzle placed on him, the Mammal looking tired yet angry, glaring at the heroes.

“Trucks pulling in,” Mitch announced, the garage door opening on cue. An armored truck pulled in along with two cruisers, driving to the group.

“All right, let's get this ball burstin!”

Kanashi cracked his knuckles. “My arms are locked and loaded!”

“I'm ready,” Jackson nodded.

“You need a catchphrase dude,” Mitch stated.

“Oh oh!” Anet was heard, “Can I come up with one?”

“Let's both brainstorm on this!”

Jackson sighed, “Navi-boy, are you trying to be my Pr-boy?”

“Navi-boy?” Lila questioned.

“Pfft,” Arthur snickered, “N-Navi-boy!”

Quarter-Burst was also heard chortling, carrying the prisoner into the truck.

Mitch groaned, “You really wanna make that title known don’t ya?”

“That and Pr-boy,” Jackson smirked.

“Shut up.”

“What he say?” Anet asked.

“Nothing.”

“Can Anet not hear us?” Jackson asked.

“Not on spea-”

“Artisakat was calling him Pr-boy,” Arthur told Anet.

“Dude!!”

“Thanks, Arthur,” Jackson thanked.

“No prob,” Arthur replied, a loud groan from Mitch being heard.

Kanashi got on his red motorbike. It had side holsters, a reticle on the window, and a decorative ring of bullets and arm emblems on the wheels. He called out, “Artisakat! We're moving!”

Giving a nod, he flew up. He tailed the truck along with Kanashi, waving at another group of heroes who were also doing an Escort, exiting the garage. “Ok,” he looked around, spotting a small helicopter drone approaching, “A drone’s approaching. That you Mitch?”

“No that's me,” Arthur answered, “I’m gonna be an extra set of eyes.”

“Oh thanks.”

“The eyeball drones being worked on,” Mitch told, “not just repairs but improvements too. Should be done by tomorrow.”

“Alright,” Jackson stayed above the truck as it moved, “I'll keep my eyes on the front, you mind watching the rear Arthur?”

“Good with you, Kanash?” Arthur asked.

“Sounds good,” Kanashi approved, “This’ll be an easy escort so how bout some burgers after this?”

“And you jinxed us,” Quarter-Burst announced through the comms.

“I did not,” he rolled his eyes.

“You did, never say somethings gonna be easy. Artisakat, keep watch, we might get swarmed.”

“Well now YOU jinxed us,” Arthur stated.

“Wha- how?”

“Wait wait,” Chiming in, Mitch said: “If Quarter jinxed us after Kanashi did, then we’re fine right? Double negative so it's a positive.”

“Is that how it works?” Lila asked.

“Pretty sure.”

Kanashi sighed, “Nobody jinxed.”

“Now we’re not. So it's smooth sailing.”

Once he said that, Anet announced, “Triple.”

“Huh?”

Arthur told Mitch, “She’s right, you just made it a triple.”

“And a triple negative is a negative so thus…were jinxed right?” Trying to understand, Lila gave her best surmise.

Jackson nodded, “If the rules of jinxes and negatives align, then yeah. I'll keep an eye out.”

“For the love of-” Kanashi facepalmed.

“Quick!” Mitch shouted, “Somebody say something jinx worthy!”

“It doesn’t work if you try to jinx on purpose,” Quarter-Burst reminded.

“Shit.”

Jackson couldn’t help but laugh, looking ahead as he flew, keeping a watch but not worried, “This'll be a smooth day alright.”

“Artisakat, did you mean to say that?” Questioned the antlered badger.

“Huh?”

“Did you say that on purpose?” Jacksons navigator asked.

Confusion on his face, Jackson asked, “What do you mean?”

“I mean did you say that to purposefully jinx us?”

“N-no? I just…said it.”

“Ok, Quadra jinx, safe!” Mitch cheered with Arthur sighing in relief.

“Safe!” Anet cheered along.

“I'm confused, so no more jinxes?” Lila questioned.

“We were never jinxed!” Kanashi loudly groaned.

----------------------------------------

They made it to a giant light gray three story oval shaped prison, the words Max Prison East A plastered on the front. They went past the outside gates after a quick inspection, entering the garage where a few yellow armored guards and a Otter in white armor with a red badge waited for them at a parking spot. The truck pulled in reverse, opening to let Quarter-Burst and the prisoner out, handing him off to the Otter.

“Thanks for the transfer, all of you,” the Otter told them, holding out a small tablet to Quarter-Burst.

“No problem,” Quarter nodded, typing on the tablet before scanning his finger.

The Otter guard nodded when he finished and pulled the villain away, his yellow companions following close by, entering the prison through a wide multi-layered heavy duty door.

Jackson looked around, marveling at the place. It was just the garage but there was plenty of security, Mammals and bots near the entrance, cameras in all corners, doors that don’t look easy to break through, and even at the gates they were thorough with there checks, needing to relink there communications through their network to stay in touch. “Calling this place fortified would be an understatement.”

“It houses a bunch of super powered villains, so it needs to be,” Quarter-Burst answered.

“Yeah…” He noticed another transfer some heroes were doing and spotted a familiar face, a face that looked back and noticed him. “Peacewolf.”

Peacewolf waved at them, talking to the Heroes she was with before walking over to them. “Hey guys!”

Kanashi approached her with a smile. “If it ain't the wolf of Peace! How's it going?”

“Just finished up an Escort of a Level Two,” she pointed behind to a Villian being taken in with his whole upper body binded and legs chained.

“What’d he do?” Jackson asked.

“He held some Mammals hostage and tried to blow up a place.”

“With him in it?”

“Nah, tried to use the hostages as an escape.”

“What was the place?” Quarter-Burst asked.

“Jewelry store, guy had a grudge against the owner.”

“Crazy.”

“Yeah. So how bout y’all?”

“Just brought in a Level One, I took him down, theft of a dealership.”

Kanashi put his arms around the tiger and feline Meta’s, saying: “And now we’re going for burgers, my treat.”

“Oh burgers! Sounds good, mind if I come?”

“I don’t mind, y’all?”

“I'm good with this change of play,” Quarter-Burst nodded.

“Fine with me, but will it just be you?”

“Can I bring my Navigator?” The white wolf asked. “The others had another Escort set up, I didn't so I was gonna head back and get something installed in my car and go for a patrol.”

“Sure! Our Navi’s are coming too!” Kanashi agreed.

“Sweet!” She tapped her earpiece, “You hear that Anias?”

“Anias?” The three collectively questioned.

“Uh…” Uncomfortably, Peacewolf stiffened, looking away, “It's…a long story.”

“Um…alright,” Kanashi didn't pry along with the others, “anyways, we all ready to head out?” Everyone nodded and he patted the two he held on the back. “Let's roll!”
