Prologue

Flying abroad in the heavenly skies, Raja Agong gazed at how the birds were free to roam, no trouble, no pressure, peace and the purity of freedom. It was there that he stood on the Kamenang, the largest and audacious battleship that was constructed by his teeming soverignety, The Gerkasa Emirates. He who commanded its swerves, he who commands fire.

“Load the guns!” he ordained and soon the men obliged. Rounds of chained balls were loaded into the Rentaka cannons, its nozzle carved into the head of a dragon with its long slender barrel. The soldiers ignited the cannons and came swivelling out darting cannon balls onto the enemy’s ship. The mast snapped and the sails torn apart. K’sat Urdon who was king of the great Khang Empire seethed in disgrace.

The vexed K’sat who led his own ship titled the Luxyen retaliated, a more devastating attack repelled the Kamenang backwards ousting them to the heavy tides. “Keep firing, do not submit to them!” Raja Agong harrumphed. Soon, his soldiers with a tinge of morale left kept up with the onslaught. They load the Rentaka cannons, awaited orders and fired.

Puffs of smoke encircled the arena while other smaller ships collided of both nations razed in flames or had been sunken. Men were swimming in the polluted waters of blood, debris and corpses floating. Lifeless, all destruction. “Your majesty, we are running low on ammunition!” a soldier cried. “Do not be distraughted by the enemy. We must fight till the end, whatever the cost may be!”

So, they fought. Casualties pullulate to the extent that the yell of dying men were replaced by the crispy sound of burning wood. Raja Agong panted, the death of his men were too much. His ship was sinking. Was it over? “In the name of Gerkasa, I must continue to my last breath!”  the remaining men were motivated. “Load the cannons, we shall fight till our last blood spill!” They obliged, the cannons were steaming from too much firing. The cannon balls projected, impacting the Luxyen.

“I’ve had enough. Men, show them no mercy.” K’sat Urdon prattled. “Aye our migthy K’sat!”  The cannons loaded. Aimed. “Fire!” the shots swivelled, the deadful hiss of the cannon balls gave Raja Agong and his men a nightmare. Blast!* the ship holed. Water soon filled the gaps of the Kamenang. The battle for the Gerkasa Emirate is over. It was a day that shall forever live in infamy.

“Men, we have fought bravely for our nation. May our souls be remembered.” With Raja Agong’s last tidings, the men made their final prayers before they drown themselves together with the wrecked ship of Kamenang that used to be the awe of eyes. K’sat Urdon smiled proudly as he crossed his arms. His men rejoiced in victory. “From this day and forth, we will be crowned as the supreme of empire of the Nusantara archipelago!”
