Chapter 56 - A Masterpiece

“Holy shit, Tumor,” Logan whispered. “Do you think it will work?”

[Yes. Positive. However, it is a question as to what degree it will work.]

Logan wasted no time. That was an amazing idea. He brought a hand to the softly glowing blue crystal and to the slab of black metal.

The first iteration of the material was crude. This needed to be thin. Very thin. Tumor gave him the red hologram of a blueprint in a reverent silence.

Logan drained the enchantment from the cloth supporting his leg. He bundled the tattered piece of fabric up. There might be a use for it later.

Then he shuffled around with his limp leg. With a powerful groan the creature pushed another tentacle through. Already four wiggled about the rubble, pushing rocks aside. A part of the pale creature’s body was already visible. It was dark, but Logan knew it was huge.

Logan pushed some more Numa into the black slab of metal.

Everything was set in place, and now Logan was feeling claustrophobic. His other hand was still on the giant crystal. The warm pulses felt comforting. The big slab of black metal in front of him waited. Logan really hoped this would work.

Next came the enchantments. Weight reduction, of course. Durability? Always.

Heh, nice. I’ll squeeze out all the extra Numa I can get.

Logan wasn’t even close to being done. This would be his Magnum Opus. All the resources available and a material that could absorb probably as many enchantments as Logan could conceive? The only thing holding him back was the fact that the enchantments would fade, and Logan would need to recharge them.

That actually made things very complicated. Logan would have loved to just absolutely stack this piece of veritable art. Camouflage or even invisibility, increases in strength and agility, force fields et cetera.

Well speed enchantment was obvious. It was just too good to pass up. His socks were awesome for overall moving around, and now Logan had a lot more potency to work with.

Increased strength was also needed. Logan did go easy on that one though. He didn’t need to be that much stronger. But a smidge wouldn’t hurt. Enough to carry Freya with one arm.

“I mean of course, I have to try this. Make it able to fly on command. Make it able to levitate on the command-word ‘Fly’.”

[Enchantment level requirement not met]

Yeah, yeah. Well it was worth a try.

“How about something completely wild? Make it absorb ambient Numa from the atmosphere to recharge the enchantments and the charge of pure Numa it can hold.”

“Holy shit!” Logan exclaimed. He couldn’t believe it. “That’s insane. I didn’t think that would work.”

[It is still indeterminate what the actual numbers are. But over your lifespan this could save a substantial amount of Numa. Please attempt this [Enchantment] on other material. If you can perform this on stone, it will change many things.]

Logan did. Both on stone and wood. The enchantment didn’t work. There was no notification about his level being low; nothing simply happened.

[I will assign a subroutine to observe the expenditure and accumulation of ambient Numa. Assuming that is needed…]

Knowing the math would be important, because it would determine how stacked Logan could make this piece of fine equipment in terms of enchantments.

Since Logan was working with metal, and who knew what kinds of dragons or other crazy shit lurked about, Logan gave the black contraption a heat resistance enchantment. It would also be important for the final piece in his and Tumor’s plan.

And so Logan came to the last [Enchantment]. The most important one. Logan wasn’t exactly sure if this would work, but his level should be high enough.

“Make this metal viscous and liquid. Make it have properties as if it was melted. However, make the form hold its structure and shape, so that it doesn’t droop to the ground. Make the metal work as if it was trapped within a casing, always reverting to the form it holds now.

“It worked!” Logan said and pumped a fist. He was sweating. From exhaustion, yes. From the fever, yes. From anxiety at what was to come. Definitely yes. This was do or die. “Tumor. It’s your turn.”

[Understood. Let me try my new class.]
