Prologue-Genesis

“Start it up!” the words echoing around the concrete room, seemingly from a lone man high on a platform. Close to him were three arcs, each one smaller than the last, stacked on top of each other. The man, whose age couldn’t be more than 45, eagerly watched his creation come to life.

He turns to look around at his team below, glee sparkling in his eyes. “For ten long years we have studied, fought, pleaded, and begged for this chance!” he said enthusiastically. “Now we make history! Now we finally have our dreams come true! Today we prove that there are an infinite number of dimensions!” Clapping thundered from the hands of everyone there. All of them eager for the fame and fortune they would soon make.

Turning back around, he grasps the safety railing with such strength his knuckles turn white. The arcs, he sees, have begun to slowly rotate. As the speed of the arcs begins to pick up, flashes of circling light can be seen coming from the very center of the smallest arc.

“Increase the power!” the man on the platform yells over the noise from the machinery. One of his colleagues down below complies and turns a large knob. As he does, the arcs turn noticeably faster. The noise from the arcs rotating begins to let loose a high pitch whine. The man on the platform called down below “Check the readings!” Answering him, was the voice of a female “All reading normal!” “Then increase it again!” he hollered back. The increase made the arcs groan, as they worked to a faster speed. The circling light started forming a spiral. The air began to be drawn toward the center of the spiral.

“That’s it, leave it there!” said the man as he pushed himself from the railing. He walked away from his position to an odd looking device in the shape of a long cylinder with a pointed end. At its base a cord as thick has his arm protrude from it. Grasping it the man walked back to his original position, pointing the end of the device at the center of the spiral. As the man flipped the switch, the device powered up with little noise. “In three...two...one!” he yelled, pulling the trigger on one. A beam of energy shot out, hitting the center of the spiral, making the volution faster. Crackling noise reverberates from the contact point of the beam and the spiral. The center of the spiral slowly extended out to the full circle of light.

A translucent image emerged, revealing a breath taking scenery of a forest. The forest was strange, though. It’s large and powerful trees different than any seen on Earth. Its bark was red and its leaves, purple. The grass around the area able to be seen, dark blue in color. The faint whispers of wild life could be heard, but not seen.

The man cut off the power to the device in his hands. Setting it down, he leaned over the railing, with his excitement written all over his face. “The portal is stable, sir.” sounded a call from below. A cheer rose up, from the commonality below. The man leaned back laughing, a wide smile of pride on his face. “This moment, will be the moment that goes down in the history books.” he turned to look at his colleagues as he said. “This will forever be the moment that changed the future of humankind.” His words echoed with power. As it died down, a deafening tone emitted from behind him. He turned around as fast as his body would let him. Staring in horror as minuscule cracks appeared from the center of the portal. A strong pull of air came from the portal. Like a tornado, it picked him up sucking him toward the portal. In the blink of an eye he was gone.

“Dr. Harris” screamed the group below, horrified at what just happened. Some ran to the platforms stairs as others tried to shut the arcs down. The two closest people to the portal were picked up, began to be sucked toward the portal. They, successfully, grabbed the nearest the railing of the platform. A resonance sounded through the room. The cracks of the portal grew larger, reaching the circumference of the circle. A sound came from the portal, like glass shattering. The portal fragmented and collapsed on itself. Like a sun drawing in upon itself. The energy condensed into a single point no larger than an apple.

The energy pulsed like a beating heart, faster and faster. The rapid beatings continuously increased its tempo until it was like one constant sound. Then the energy expanded with an explosion. From hundreds of miles away, a pillar of white shot upwards to the sky could be seen. A surge of light traveled the entire world. Dr. Harris was right, this was the day that would forever changed the future of mankind. If only he knew how right he was.

As the blast covered the world, everything running on electricity stopped working and the world shook. Planes fell from the skies and boat sat on the water, stranding all on board. Buildings crumbled as earthquakes changed the face of Earth. The quakes created tidal waves bombarded the shores all over. Millions died in mere minutes. Governments collapsed, many of their key members dead from the resulting cataclysm. On everyone’s mind was the question, is this the end?

The most eerie thing to happened, though, was on the second day after the blast a strange silvery fog swept throughout the planet. If someone was able to they would have found the fog originated from the center of the blast. Where the world wide disaster killed millions, the fog killed billions. When the fog rolled through, all that were still alive fell down. Blood began flowing from their nose. Less than half of those that fell awoke again. From the ashes the people rose, fearful of what was to come.

Back at the cause of this apocalypse, stepped a man old in appearance. Long white tangled hair dropped below his shoulders, draping on his dark brown robe. A white beard, hung far to his chest. Peculiar looking silver eyes gleamed from beneath his hood.  From his mouth came a seemingly ancient voice. “I have returned.”
