Author note: This is my second fanfic. This will be updated as I feel like. I will be writing this one casually. I've got quite a lot of RL stuff going on so I can’t commit to two ongoing fanfics. I just really wanted to get out an idea I have had for a long time (by long time I mean a couple days ago when I was bored and had nothing to do). I may ditch my other fanfic depending on the response. If the readers from my other one prefer this then I will make ‘Magic: The post apocalypse’ weekly or bi-weekly. Just to let you know, each chapter will have hopefully 6000 words +. I will use proper grammar and speech, unlike my other fanfic. I may switch between 1st and 3rd person.
_____________
Prologue:
In 2046, humanity discovered magic.
During the most recent mission to the moon in 2046, astronauts discovered that beneath the surface was a world beyond imagination. Thousands upon thousands of crystals littered giant caverns deep within the ground. The crystals illuminated the caverns with a pure blue light. It was definitely an unknown element that would later be mostly found in gaseous form.
Astonished by what they found, NASA launched the first large scale mining mission on the moon, resulting in millions of tons of this mysterious crystal being taken back to Earth. When they reached Earth however, a strange reaction occurred. Every single crystal that was brought back had dissipated into the air.
It took three more years to realise what had happened when disaster had taken humanity by surprise. All living things had unconsciously absorbed this substance from the air, creating monstrosities (that would later be known as danger beasts) and people who could manipulate this ‘mana’ (who would later be known as mages).
Over the next decade, humanity came upon the brink of extinction. Massive continental drift, coupled with extreme changes in the climate, constant attack from these ‘danger beasts’ and human conflicts, the population of 10 billion people dwindled to only a couple hundred thousand. The mana that the deceased had absorbed returned to the atmosphere and made the danger beasts stronger and more numerous as well as made the remaining mages stronger.
Due to the continental drift, over the next fifty years and after numerous earthquakes, the land became one. The massive continent was later named Saido. The time for humanity’s redemption came. The surviving members of the human race now believed that it was God’s will and what happened was punishment for global warming. As such, they abandoned technology, the likes of which would later be known as artefacts.
Humanity prospered once again, living with nature. Their population slowly rose and spread out across the continent. They travelled towards the South as the North was a harsh environment filled with the strongest danger beasts. The strongest mages at the time moved the earth and created kingdoms that were built similar to their medieval counterparts.
Several different religions came into life as well, each worshipping what they thought were aspects of God; the Church of Benevolence in the South of civilisation, Omnipotence in the East and Omniscience in the North. Later, the Church of Malevolence appeared, spreading chaos and anarchy in the West.

After thousands of years, different languages were developed and traits were created. Humanity was moulded by the mana to better suit its properties. The people in the South developed sharp ears and were known as the elves; the people in the East developed animal ears and tails and were known as the beastmen; the people in the North developed wings and were known as the avians; the people in the West developed pointed tails and horns and were known as the demons. The humans who had originally stayed in the central continent did not develop much however. Instead, a small population of them developed the ability to tame danger beasts.
Time went on. Stability came to the West. The strongest demon of them all founded a kingdom where only the strong could rule. This stopped the anarchy and a society formed.
A mountain range was formed in the North, separating civilised Saido and the wilderness.
Great forests grew in the South.
Jungles appeared in the East.
The ground cracked and turned to ash in the West.
In the centre, dungeons formed. These dungeons were living beings, created by mana. Inside, danger beasts that would usually inhabit the wilderness lived; great treasures were housed and artefacts were discovered. Towns and cities were built around the dungeons. Humans had figured that by controlling them, trading would prosper. Of course, not all dungeons were discovered and more kept coming into creation.
As the centuries went by, the Churches forgot that they worshipped aspects of God and instead worshipped four different gods. The Church of Omniscience was replaced with the Church of Apollo. The Church of Omnipotence became the Church of Taranis. The Church of Benevolence became the Church of Epona. The Church of Malevolence became the Church of Cratus.
The North, East, South, West and the centre all became separate countries. The avians used their knowledge and magic to create a floating island called Aerloft. The beastmen in the East carved roads and cities into the Great Jungle and called it Belrok. The elves of the South used did not use any resources because of their love for the Great Forest. Instead, they manipulated it with mana to creat cities and called it Hayashi. The demons of the West made giant basalt walls that separated it from the rest of the continent. They called their country Mortroth. The humans in the centre made cities from stone any materials they could find. They called their country Britain based off of ruins that pre-dated their known history.
5064 years have passed since the apocalypse. In the small village of Merth, that is located in the East of Britain, a woman is in labour.
