Intermission: The Promise

Intermission: The Promise

Rain pours down to the earth, lightning strikes illuminates the nights, thunder crackles and roars across the skies. It was as if the world is making loud cries. The ground shakes, volcanoes bloom, painting the sky in Crimson with doom.

It’s neither day nor night, yet there is light, and darkness.

As one can perceive, this might probably the painting of Apocalypse.

And in the midst of this chaos, one man is standing on a cliff, watching the world without making any sound.

He wears a silver crown with a sparkling gem that is as blue as the sea, a robe as brown as the illusive deserts, shoulder pads that glows in morning dew green, placed on his waist is beautiful scabbard with no sword, and on his left hand is a golden cane that glows in dignity and might. Lastly, on his right hand, a violet ring, a very deep color that could madden a normal man.

He closed his eyes and takes a deep breath. He raises his free hand, and speaks of words unknown to man.

“For the gods to forsake the world of one man, they are not worthy of phrase nor worship.”

With one snap from his finger, a black book which glows in violet that’s neither dark nor light. The pages flip open, characters glow with life. As if it was normal, a voice came out from the book.

[The Heavenly Gods are too strong for you to challenge alone.]

A voice of a woman was heard. It carried neither apathy nor empathy. Though it was like that, it was conveyed with respect.

[What will you do now? The Gods have set their eyes on your power.]

He was asked, yet he did not utter a single word to reply. He just stood there watching the chaos that is happening in front of him.

[This world will be destroyed if you stay here.]

Suddenly, the relics that were mentioned glows with their own light. And then, one by one, they separate themselves from the man.

“I will return to take back the relics for this body is no longer capable of wielding them.”

The golden cane became a golden double-edged sword then disappeared towards the east, the robe swirl and turn into a wooden old staff then flew to the west, the silver crown became mist and disperses to the high north, the green shoulder pads transformed into a green bird which flapped its wings and flew towards south, the scabbard became a snake and slithered into the forest behind him, and lastly, the violet ring got absorbed into the pages of the violet book.

When every relic had disappeared, there, the man dropped on all fours, bleeding all over his body.

A cough accompanied by blood marked his dying body, yet he mustered up his strength to stand on one leg.

Using his blood on the ground, he wrote inscriptions in circle around him.

The longer he wrote, the slower he got. Yet he didn’t stop.

When he finished, he sat in the middle with the book on his hands.

“I will return in this world and fulfill my promise with you, Lithius.”

The voice from the book chuckled upon hearing his words before it replied.

[I will not mind how long it would take as long as you do your part, Godfre]

They only exchanged a few words, yet those words were had heavy meanings.

Another snap from the old man’s fingers, the books disappears from his hand.

With one hand on the ground and the other on his chest, he started exercising his power.

As if it had life, the inscriptions written in blood glowed in bright crimson, responding to his words.

After finishing his chant, he wore a smile unfit for a dying old man.

“I’ll come back and bring you Gods down from the heaven.”

Like a television turned off, the old man disappeared from where he stood.
