Slightly odd

12:01 AM, Wenesday

March 13, 2015

"Why are you so weird?",

My curly haired male classmate exclaimed at me. I paused from my scribbling in my journal, pondering from the random insult thrown at me.

"Leave him alone, It's lunchtime"

The group of three jackasses left, leaving me finally alone in the classroom.

I resumed to my writings as they left.

4:20 PM

I walk with my sibling towards the puddle-filled pathway towards home, conversing about our mediocre day.

I wore my grey trenchcoat and loose light purple sweater, covering my dull uniform, some bleached jeans, and dark boots while Mallory wore his casual dark black shirt with sleeves, his denim jacket wrapped around his thin waist, ripped jeans, and black boots.

"He said what?", Mallory snapped.

"Calm down"

"Calm down, my ass!

Why didn't you answer back?"

I sighed and responded lowly,

"Some things are not worth having arguing over, you know..".

Mallory took a puff on his cigarette and offered me some, which I accepted gladly. He lit his cigarette and then mine. I blew some smoke from my nostrils and finally relaxed a bit more.

"..And besides, It's a magnificent waste of time to argue with an idiot ",

I subtly added,

"Early this morning, he failed three quizzes in a row".

"True that.. Let me guess, you did well?"

"Of course.. Well, except Math"

We sat on the old metal bench beneath the small waiting shed, big enough for five people, I think.

After Mallory removed his dark shades. I glanced at his usual emotionless eyes and dilated pupils. My thick brows furrowed further as he noticed a bruise on his brother's skinny arms.

If you find this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the infringement.

"What happened to your arm?"

Mallory glimpsed on the bruised area of his elbow and shrugged.

"I had an argument with Dad"

"For what reasons?"

Mallory chuckled, clearly proud of his rebellious antics.

"Well, for starters, I painted my nails black and asked borrowed my girlfriend's make-up kit and lipstick"

He grabbed something from his pocket, and tapped his black fingernails on the red lipstick he held boastfully.

I creased my brows and frown worriedly,

"But why? You are fully aware he despises.. things like that"

"I am not going to be forced in his cult forever.

I am going to live with Rosie's parents, whether he likes it or not"

I rolled his eyes up the sky as he started speaking about his future in-laws.

"Oh, The Addam's family"

Mallory chuckled and then slapped my shoulders.

"Won't they mind?", I asked.

"Not at all. They love me. They are the nicest goth family I ever met"

"That's good"

I flicked the used cigarette away into the full trashbin and sighed,

"You got someone to catch you when you fall.

When I fall, I hit concrete".

"Oh, you tragic poet, you", Mallory sarcastically commented.

"Pardon?"

"Atleast Dad don't hate you as much as I do"

Mallory aggressively took another whiff of smoke and tossed it carelessly into the road. The discarded cigar stick is then crushed by a jarring truck speeding by.

"You are his favorite, don't you know?

He called you his sucessor and such"

I gazed at the squashed cigar on the road and darted my eyes on his blank eyes, concealing his jealousy. It puzzled me why he is bothered so much by this.

"Frankly, I don't think that is something for me to be proud of"

"Sure, but it's a nice privilege"

"You are quite moody today", i

I commented, attempting to lighten up.

Mallory faked a smile and took another cigarette from his denim's chest pocket. He lit it with his lighter and joked,

"I'm on my period, Morty".

I raised a brow and shook my head facetiously. Mallory giggled softly at his own absurd humor, which I slowly joined in, rather awkwardly.

A black car passed on their front. The car window slid down, revealing the red haired beauty inside the car and her middle-aged mother in her side, who leaned her head to see.

she happily waved her hands, "Hello, Marshal!"

"Hi, Rosie, Darling"

"He calls himself Mallory now", I exclaimed.

Her eyes widened to the news and looked at Mallory for legitimacy.

"It's true. It's my new name", he said casually.

Rose squinted her eyes to think.

"I like it!", she chirped.

I don't think she knew that name means "Unlucky" but it's quite nice that she supports his boyfriend.

No, I'm not envious.

Mallory smiled to her response and he turned to me and held my arms with his smaller manicured hands, like Mom used to do.

"Call me, okay? I'll miss my baby brother"

"Don't call me that"

He pinched my cheeks childishly, which actually hurts too much.

"Stop that, will you?", I growled annoyedly.

"I just want to put some colors on those pale cheeks, Baby brother"

I sighed and gave off a genuine smile.

"Just buzz off, and take care, I guess"

We embraced, then he goes into the car. Before the dark vehicle has ride off, he popped up, showing half his body.

"Take care!"

"Will do", I nodded as the car gradually escaped from my sight.
