The Trial

The Trial

The moon light shone brightly down onto the fortress. Janu left the fortress wearing the silver emblem and he and the other Magia sat in front of the crowd.

The Magia had set up flat silver objects like plates to show a close up view of the top of the fortress.

The leaders entered the circular top of the fortress, facing off each other.

Even though Comet knew that no matter who won, the Magia had a plan to take control of the colony, he was still eagerly waiting to see who would win.

For a moment there was no movement until RiverCharm charged forward towards SilverSkull. He gave him a good scratch across the nose.

SilverSkull grunted angrily but was too slow to react and get a counter attack as RiverCharm retreated. They circled and dodged each other, only managing to scratch off tufts of fur, but it was clear that RiverCharm was the more agile of the two.

He saw a movement behind him, and he saw to his horror, Master Coney and some rabbits from DiamondColony entering the crowd. He had a scar over his eyes from where he’d scratched him. He cowered down, hoping to blend in with the crowd for a bit. With rabbits from multiple different colonies here, that would be easier.

SilverSkull then grabbed a clump of RiverCharm fur, holding firm, RiverCharm screamed then violently kicked and twisted away, raking his back feet over SilverSkulls face, forcing him to let go and back off a bit. RiverCharm didn’t stop, he got up quickly, and began lunging, biting and clawing at SilverSkull’s eyes nose and ears.

RiverCharm tried rounding on SilverSkull, and as soon he managed to get behind him, RiverCharm jumped and momentarily pinned him down by his neck, making a deep wound. SilverSkull seemed to be about to be defeated, then a light in the distance seemed to get RiverCharm’s attention.

Comet knew it was the Magia using the silver on the fortress and tensed. Maybe he should try counteracting it.

But it was too late, SilverSkull twisted under RiverCharm, and flung him up into the air, then jumped back and slammed RiverCharm into the ground as he tried to get his balance.

RiverCharm screamed, followed by a sickening crack, he flopped to the ground. He was alive, but he couldn’t move his legs.

“Do you accept defeat?” SilverSkull asked.

“Yes.” He groaned.

“No!” Yelled a rabbit from the crowd. Shouting rang out, the Magia had to restore order.

“Quiet. SilverSkull has won. The colony is united under us now as per the agreement.” Said Janu.

The rabbits growled and challenged them while healers rushed up to help RiverCharm the silently suffering RiverCharm.

“There’s no need to argue, you should be happy.” Said SilverSkull, coming down from the fortress proudly. “We are united, we can go across the border as we please, we don’t have to be divided anymore. Have fun, tear down the border wall!” He ordered.

The already relied up rabbits decided to take up the offer and began heading south. Rabbits from the north were excited to see what the south was like now. Comet was sure they were in for a disappointment and possibly worse, an attack by the rebels and wild rabbits.

He wasn’t sure how long the illusion of the Master-Medallion would last, but he was sure that they would find out the colony had been united very soon, either from observing the colony or another spy letting them know. The Magia hadn’t even asked where Rusty but as long as they had the Master-Medallion, they probably didn’t care what happened to him.

The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

He then heard the voice of Orion and turned around to see he was approaching him with Master Coney. Orion hung his head sadly.

“You are coming with me, it’s time to energise the Master-Medallion.” Said Master Coney, in a low threatening voice.

“Or what?” Challenged Comet.

“I’ll reveal the truth of your heritage.” He said.

“I don’t care, in fact, it would be good for the colony to know they can use magic too.” Said Comet.

“These rabbits aren’t smart enough to know how to use magic and with you gone, they’ll never know how.”

“Then you underestimate them and me.” Said Comet and dashed away.

“Get him!” Ordered Master Coney to the rabbits around him. They were all scared of him so did as he said.

“Everyone, I have an announcement.” Called Comet as loudly as he could. “I want to let you know, I’m not a hare, I never was hare, I was lied to and so were you. You can use magic too. The Copper and Gold Colony rabbits already know how.”

The rabbits stopped their charge when they heard him and asked if he was telling the truth.

Master Coney wasn’t having that. He used a copper pendant to shoot out a bolt of lighting towards Comet. Comet tried dodging it but it just hit the back of his leg. He shrieked in pain but circled around and shot some of his own lighting towards it.

The bolt of light was just about to hit Master Coney when it suddenly dissipated. Apparently Copper’s weakness was Porcelain.

”Everyone, we can destroy the Magia, use your resources against them like I showed you.” He said desperately, trying to implore the scared and confused rabbits. No one made any attempts to take him up on his offer.

”Are you sure you’re not a hare because that’s a crazy thing they would say?” Asked SilverSkull mockingly.

“You can’t defeat us, just come with me, otherwise, your friends will suffer.” Said Master Coney. He saw Magia rabbits, forcing Arrow and Blue forward, they looked beat up.

“We tried to come and help you, but they attacked us.” Said Blue.

“Leave them alone.” It was Orion speaking. He’d been quietly watching the fight. “Let’s just get this over with.” He gave Comet a look, telling him not to argue.

“Wait, do you hear that?” He asked.

“No, let’s go.” Snapped Master Coney.

“I hear it too.” Said Orion, his ears perked up.

“I’m not falling for any of your hare tricks.” Growled Master Coney but pressed his paw to his silver pendant, using its power to see through the silver the rabbits were wearing.

“They’re here.” He said, he didn’t seem surprised or scared, which confirmed that it was part of their plan the whole time.

Rabbits began racing back to the fortress island where they were. While he was distracted, a couple of the Magia grabbed him and ripped away his satchel and necklace with pendants on it.

Before he could react, he was forced to go into the fortress with Orion, Master Coney and Janu. The other Magia blocked the entrance from the scared rabbits.

At least he saw they’d let Arrow and Blue go. Hopefully they’d be alright. They had no magic to defend themselves.

The inside of the fortress was calm and cool, the full moon reflecting in the shallow pool below. Instead of being lead up the stone staircase, Master Coney lead them to a stone in the fortress wall. With a press of a gold pendant, the stone dissolved into the air and revealed a dark tunnel.

They entered the narrow tunnel, Comet taking the lead. It felt dangerous, in the tight space, unable to flee. He had to keep himself from panicking, preparing for what was about to happen. With the rebels and wild rabbits attacking, it was probably better to finally energise the Master-Medallion but couldn’t see how he could keep the Master Coney from using it.

Then, they got to the sparkling tunnel filled with precious resources.

Janu went to space in the wall, and pressed the silver emblem to it. It fit perfectly. Master Coney placed the Master-Medallion into the floor of the tunnel. Comet was confused until he noticed that intricate symbols surrounded the spot, there was a design of each colony’s plant. This is why they had to come here.

“Are we ready yet?” Asked Janu, he was strangely nervous and twitchy.

“Not yet, but the other emblems will be in place soon.” Said Master Coney.

“That’s why you let the rebels and wild rabbits attack, to get the emblems from the Gold and Copper Colony’s, isn’t it?” Demanded Comet.

“It was necessary for the ceremony, now be quiet, this is a sacred space or I’ll force you too.” Said Master Coney, he held his porcelain pendant out threateningly.

Comet put a paw to his neck, only to remember he had no precious resources he could use. He was completely defenceless.

Then he realised, this entire area was filled with precious resources. He didn’t have to even touch them to use them. He wasn’t sure Orion would approve but he wasn’t going to offer much help. He had accepted that the Magia were more powerful than him, he couldn’t do anything to stop their inevitable take over.

“It’s time, Janu, keep your paw to that emblem no matter what happens and you two, come over here.” Ordered Master Coney.

Orion moved forwards without hesitation. Comet took a deep breath. They needed this Master-Medallion and if his plan worked, Master Coney wouldn’t be the one with it.

He hopped forwards and put his paw on the Master-Medallion.
