Chapter IV: Kiss Me, We're On Fire, Babe

Johnny's POV

The next day.

I awoke to the sensation of warm air on my face. I shifted slightly.

“Sweetheart, we have to get up,” Daniel said while giving me a kiss on the forehead.

I smiled, my eyes still closed.

“I know you're awake, Johnny. Get up,” Daniel grumbled, hitting me with a pillow.

I shielded myself. “Ok, ok, I'm awake.”

I got up and went to the bathroom.

“Hurry up, we have to get to the airport.”

“Alright, Larusso, chill,” I responded.

I took a shower, putting on some black jeans and a blue shirt with a flower print on it.

When I re-entered the bedroom, Daniel was looking at me, arms crossed.

“What?” I asked.

“You haven't called me by my last name in so long,” he mumbled.

“Must've slipped out,” I quickly replied.

“Yeah, probably,” he commented, his voice sad.

I rolled my eyes, laughing. “I'm sorry, c'mere sunshine.”

Daniel smiled and went up to me, arms wide, to give me a little hug. I gave him a chaste kiss on the lips, making him giggle.

“Better?” I asked.

He gave me a sloppy kiss before replying, “Better.”

“Don't forget to bring your suitcase and passport downstairs,” he reminded me.

“I won't”

I went downstairs with my passport and suitcase in my hand. We were only going on the honeymoon for about a week, so I didn't pack too much.

Being the sweet husband I am, I decided to take Daniel's suitcase downstairs for him. Little did I know that was a terrible mistake. His suitcase was extremely heavy. I couldn't even get it down the first flight of stairs.

“Sunshine, do you have bricks in your suitcase or something? Why is it so heavy?”

Daniel got out of the shower; he was wearing some grey shorts and a white t-shirt.

He sighed when he saw me struggling. “I just packed the essentials, it's not that heavy.”

He picked it up with ease and carried it down the stairs.

“Stop being so dramatic, Johnny.”

I was so confused, I'm almost certain that I'm stronger than Daniel.

I shook my head, coming back to reality. I ran downstairs.

“What do you want for breakfast?” I asked Daniel.

“What? Johnny, we don't have time for breakfast; we can get something at the airport.”

“But I'm starving,” I whined.

“I don't give a fuck, just put on your shoes and get in the car.”

“Bossy,” I mumbled under my breath.

I put on my white shoes and tied my laces. I took my suitcase and went outside to the car, not bothering to wait for Daniel.

I put my suitcase in the trunk and got into the car.

“Hurry up, sunshine; we don't want to miss our flight, do we?” I snickered.

He huffed and marched outside, placing his suitcase in the trunk, closing it, and entering the car.

Once he got in, I turned on the engine, and before we knew it, we were speeding off.

**

Our apartment was an hour away from the airport, so we had some time to kill. Speaking of our apartment, I was thinking of upgrading it to an actual house since I actually have the money. You might be wondering what my job is. I now work as a lawyer at Bobby's dad's law firm. I've been doing it for the past few years behind Daniel's back. I know I probably should've told him, but I wanted to surprise him. I think it will be worth it in the end.

“Can I put some music on?” Daniel asked, startling me.

I hummed in approval as he put on the song “Time After Time.”

I groaned, “Why can't we put some rock music on?”

“Johnny, we've had this conversation before.”

I huffed. Whatever, I don't have time to argue now.

**

When we made it to the airport, we checked our baggage in, and since we had some time to kill, we went to the shops.

Much to my disapproval, we went to a perfume shop.

“What do you want to get?” I asked Daniel.

“We need to get something for my relatives who didn't come to the wedding.”

I groaned, “But airport stuff is so expensive, why can't we just get something when we get there?”

He rolled his eyes. “You're not paying for it, so you have nothing to worry about.”

We spent a while in the shops, buying gifts for Daniel's relatives, before we had to board our flight.

Let's get this honeymoon started.

**

The first thing we did when we got to Rome was, of course, go to the Pantheon. It was beautiful. The Pantheon had dull, worn shades of grey and brown, showing how old it was.

After that, we made a quick stop at the Trevi Fountain. I took a coin out of my pocket and threw it in.

“What did you wish for?” Daniel asked.

“I can't tell you.” I chirped, “I wish for someone to get all they want in life.”

Daniel looked at me, confused. “What? Why didn't you wish for something for yourself?”

I smiled, “I have everything I need and more now.”

“You're so cheesy,” Daniel grinned, though I knew he wasn't truly content with his life.

You see, Daniel has always wanted kids. Since the day we decided to date, he's always been on and on about kids.

We haven't really talked about having kids, yeah, sometimes the topic is brought up, but it's always glossed over.

I love children and would like to have one, but I'm unsure if I would be a good father. My dad abandoned my mom before I was born, and Sid is a conceited jerk, so I've never had a male role model in my life, and then we are also debating whether to use a surrogate or adopt. Right now, everything is simply overwhelming.

This book's true home is on another platform. Check it out there for the real experience.

“You okay?” Daniel asked, his voice filled with concern.

“Yeah, I'm fine. Let's go meet your relatives.”

We got on a train and made our way to Florence.

**

The train ride was interesting, to say the least, but we finally arrived in Florence and were getting closer to Daniel's extended family’s house. I'm not going to lie, I was a bit nervous as it was my first time meeting them.

When we got to the entrance, I stopped dead in my tracks. I know Daniel talked about me a lot to them, but what if they think I'm weird and not good for him?

“You've been quiet since the train ride; are you sure everything is okay?” He asked.

“Uhh…”

“What's wrong?”

“I'm a bit nervous to meet your family,” I admitted.

“What? There's no need to worry; I've told them so much about you; it's like they've known you for your whole life.”

I shuddered. “That means you probably told them how we met." I said, putting air quotes around the word “met.”.

He rubbed his neck. “Yeah, I have.”

I sighed “That's exactly why I'm nervous, they probably think I have anger issues or something.”

Daniel frowned. “Of course they don't, if you did, I wouldn't be with you now.”

I forced a smile. “Yeah, you're right, let's just go.”

I took his hand, and we walked up the stairs to their apartment. Daniel knocked on the door, and it was immediately opened. A bunch of small girls and boys ran up to him.

“Uncle Daniel is here,” they yelled in unison.

‘Uncle?’ I thought Daniel didn't have any siblings.

“They're my cousins, but they call me Uncle,” Daniel replied, like he was reading my mind.

“Oh,” I murmured. “That makes sense.”

“We've been waiting for you guys for so long, everyone is in the kitchen,” said one of the little girls.

“Well, let's go then,” Daniel giggled, excited.

The kids led me to the kitchen, where all the adults were sitting. They were speaking Italian, I assumed, so I couldn't understand what they were saying. I was praying that they weren't planning my murder.

“Hey, zie, zii, nonno e nonna.” Daniel greeted them, I assumed he was saying hi to them because he started the sentence with “Hey.”

His aunties got up from their seats and gave Daniel a big hug.

“Sei cresciuto così tanto dall'ultima volta che ti ho visto” One of Daniel's aunts exclaimed excitedly as she pinched his cheeks and planted a wet kiss on one of them.

“Yeah, I know,” he uttered.

“I assume this is your husband. What were you talking about?” His uncle asked.

“Mhm” He exclaimed, “Everyone, meet Johnny.”

It was silent for a few minutes, everyone was staring at me while I awkwardly stood there feeling uncomfortable.

Another one of his aunts spoke up. “È molto bello, vero? Quanto è bravo a letto?” she smirked.

Daniel blushed profusely, his hands covering his face. “That's none of your business,” he spluttered.

“What did she say?” I whispered to him.

“She just said you were handsome,” he whispered back, still blushing.

I smiled, feeling satisfied. Of course, I was handsome, just look at me.

I didn't know a lot of Italian, but I knew a few basic phrases like saying thank you and saying goodbye, so I thought it was a good idea to at least say thank you for the compliment.

“Grazie!” I thanked them.

They laughed, hugging me and giving me sloppy kisses on the cheek. I giggled, remembering how nervous I was to meet Daniel's family. I was glad they made me feel welcomed.

**

We spent a few hours at their house, talking about how we met, our wedding, and things like that.

I checked the time; it was around 8 p.m. “Should we go to a hotel?” I asked Daniel.

“No! Niente albergo, dormirai qui stanotte!” His grandma practically yelled.

“No, it's ok.” Daniel reassured her, “We can just go to a hotel.”

“Non c'è motivo di litigare con tua nonna, accettalo e basta.” His grandpa groaned, annoyed.

Daniel huffed “Grandma wants us to stay the night. Is that ok with you?”

“As long as you're there, I'm fine with anything.”

He smiled. “Where are we sleeping?”

We had to sleep with the kids as there weren't enough rooms. It wasn't that bad, but I thought we were going to get a private room, y'know, because we're on our honeymoon. Whatever, even if we did, we couldn't possibly do anything without anyone hearing us.

‘Next time’ I thought ‘Definitely next time’

**

We said our goodbyes to Daniel's family the next day, which was oddly sentimental.

“You'll come meet us next time, right?”

“Of course,” Daniel said. “My husband and I will.” He smiled, making the kids explode with excitement.

We were making our way to the train station when Daniel nudged me on the shoulder.

“That wasn't too bad, was it?”

“Yeah, I guess it wasn't.” I smiled.

“Ok, since we've done everything I want to do, what do you want to do?” Daniel asked.

I thought for a second that, if I'm being honest, the only thing I wanted was to be able to strip Daniel naked and make love to him, but I understood that I had to wait.

“Um…” I began, “Maybe we can chill out, y'know? Just walk around Rome and stuff.”

Daniel beamed, "Yeah, of course.”

He wrapped his arm around my arm. We took another train to Rome and walked around, taking in the sights. We visited some more tourist attractions, like the Colosseum, St. Peter's Basilica, and the Vatican & Sistine Chapel.

The scenery was absolutely stunning, and I felt extremely happy that we still had five days left before we had to leave.

Along the way, I saw a man selling roses. Daniel was too immersed in everything to see me buy one.

“For you, sunshine,” I cooed, tucking a strand of hair from behind his ear and placing the rose on it.

He brought his hand up to feel the flower. He looked at me and grinned.

He then turned around, searching for what? I don't know, he came dangerously close to me.

“I wonder how I can repay you,” he purred in an extremely sultry voice.

I started sweating, I didn't know this was going to happen.

“Um, there is a restaurant nearby, and I'm kind of hungry. Wanna go?”

He whined, “Fine.”

He looked a bit sad, so I said, “Don't get me wrong, I want to make love to you, but I'm starving.”

That got him to smile. “You make everything sound so cheesy. Let's eat then.”

We entered a pizzeria instead of the restaurant I wanted to go to. Daniel is saying that since we're in Italy, we have to try some fresh pizza. I didn't complain, though it's fucking pizza.

We were immediately seated, as it wasn't that crowded.

“Hey, I'm Melanie, I'll be your waiter today. What can I get you?”

I shrugged. “I'll get a pepperoni pizza.”

Daniel rolled his eyes. “Can I have the mushroom, olive, onion, bell pepper, and pickled jalapeños pizza, please?”

“Yeah, of course." Melanie chirped, “I'll be right with you.”

Daniel huffed “We're in Italy, the inventors of pizza, and you choose pepperoni?”

“What's wrong with that?” I asked.

“Nothing’s wrong; it's just a bit basic, don't you think?”

“I'll take a bite of yours,” I answered.

“I promise you'll like it!” He cheered.

A few minutes later, we got out the pizzas. I dug into my pizza, and of course it was delicious. You could never go wrong with pepperoni. Daniel was eating his pizza too; it seemed like he enjoyed it. A bit of tomato sauce fell on his chin.

“Here, let me.” I picked up a napkin and wiped the sauce off his chin.

“Thank you, baby.” He whispered affectionately, “Now eat my pizza.” He held up a slice in front of me.

I sighed and took a bite. I thought it would taste gross, but it was surprisingly nice. All the flavours came together perfectly.

I nodded in approval. “It's actually pretty good.”

Daniel laughed. “See, I told you.”

We finished eating, and Melanie came back with the bill. Much to Daniel's protests, I paid.

“Give her a tip, she was nice,” Daniel said. I did, and we left the pizzeria.

We checked into the hotel. We arrived at our room and went in.

“You know you need to stop paying for everything. I know you're like rich and stuff now, but still,” Daniel complained.

I shoved Daniel up against the wall and passionately kissed his lips. Daniel was momentarily taken aback, then swiftly reciprocated by kissing me and wrapping his arms around my neck. I ran my fingers through his hair, gently tugging as he gasped, granting my tongue total entry into his mouth.

Daniel pushed me back a little. “We just ate a couple of minutes ago.”

“Sunshine, I swear to God, I need you right now. I don't care,” I breathed out.

He nodded and then drew me in for a wet kiss. Our bodies were tightly pressed against the wall, breathing heavily as our lips met. I could sense our intertwined breath and feel the pulse of our joint heartbeat as we fumbled to remove one another's clothing.

What happened next? I'll let you decide.
