0. Prologue

I could smell them. They had crossed this stream only a few hours ago. Feeling my rage trying to claw its way up again to take over my reason. Forcefully I pushed it down. Not now, not yet. There would be a time to express my displeasure.

Hurling myself forward, I flew through the woodlands. Rocks and trees explode in my path. Nothing would stand between me and my prey. Thieves! Liars! Oathbreakers…

Moving in great leaps forward. Still, staying close to the forest floor. It would not do to spook my prey early. I could but shake my head at their hubris.

Had they not been the ones to sue for peace. To lay down their arms and beg for reprieve. Yet here they had come, ravagers of my home. Taking that which belonged to me. Sullying their honor by breaking the sacred oath. An oath between former brothers. An oath made in blood on the field of battle.

There would be no more reprieve. No more mercy. They had chosen the manner of their punishment. Fate had been sealed. Not even the sisters would dare argue.

Clearing the last part of the forest, I could see them on the plains. Too late to run now, worms. Marching in perfect order. Their golden armor gleamed in the sun. A collum guarding each side of their ill-gotten gains. My former brothers. Had they forgotten why I was first among equals? Why I had been graced with existence before everyone else.

Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.

They had a debt to me. I was here to collect. The sight of my stolen treasure being dragged along by my former brothers ignited my anger again. It bubbled. It seethed just under the surface. I let the rage overtake me.

My face stretched, my body growing larger, my limbs getting longer. I took a mighty leap toward my prey as I changed. Scales covered my body, scales dark as the void. Wings that blotted out the sun. A mighty spiked tail flowed behind me. I was free again. Voicing my fury made the earth tremble. My prey could see me now. It was too late. The resignation, the fear. It smells delicious.

Soaring through the sky, I dove toward the vile scum. My pleasure at watching terror overtaking their reason was exquisite. They are only minutes from their goal. They knew their choice. They knew the debt must be paid. That was the way. Now they would know despair.

Opening my great maw once more. I roared my anger and rage at the intruders, diving towards them. The anticipation of spilling blood made me salivate. Fangs and claws itching to rend, to tear. My glee and rage battled for dominance as I could smell their fear on the wind. The realization. I had come. The end.
