Chapter 73: Ending

Chapter 73: Ending

When the three returned to Sunshine Village, a comforting warmth enveloped the area.

It felt as if the Xyrin light above had intensified, but perhaps it was just an illusion.

The writhing flesh quickly became inert under the sunlight, eliminating the need for further cleansing.

The maw urged Mithra to quickly collect the flesh before it lost its freshness. Mithra ignored it.

During the fight with Sheng, each of his attacks had caused fleshy protrusions. The maw had consumed them all.

Mithra hadn't even settled the score for the amount of her flesh it had consumed during the fight.

She would consult the recipe book and prepare a variety of tongue dishes for the maw when they returned.

She had made a promise; she was a woman of her word.

Sensing Mithra's thoughts, the maw became still and silent, hoping she would forget.

"The Xyrin energy point has been restored?" Nie Hong asked joyfully.

"If it had been fixed earlier, we wouldn't have had so much trouble... Oh well, everyone did their best," Leo Duncan said, his tone less arrogant, perhaps due to his recent death.

Mithra looked at Xyrin, focusing on the information from Night Eyes.

So how had Sheng's group, carrying the "Chrysalis" curse, entered Eternal Night while the energy point was still active?

And the Night Hunter branch leader hiding in Sun City.

Mithra had learned from the guards, who had apprehended her, that the mansion belonged to a wealthy merchant.

Was the Night Hunters church merely acting as intermediaries in this incident?

There seemed to be something more significant hidden beneath the surface. Investigating it might have far-reaching consequences, extending beyond the Southwestern District and even into the inner city.

Mithra decided not to think about it. She had just fought a battle; thinking was too tiring.

Nino returned.

His injuries were severe. He had clearly cut off large portions of flesh, regardless of whether they were connected to him. He was covered in wounds, and his left ear and several fingers were missing.

Fortunately, he hadn't lost any major limbs.

Despite having severed so much flesh, the unnatural growth had persisted. He had almost resigned himself to his fate, but the timely restoration of the Xyrin energy point had saved him.

Even so, he was lying on a stretcher, pale from blood loss when Mithra saw him.

The Southwestern District was in chaos, and Sunshine Village, once a bustling community, was empty.

Mithra, along with Nie Hong and Leo Duncan, climbed to the top of the wall in Sunshine Village and looked out at the landscape.

...

Reinforcements from Sun City finally arrived.

This story has been unlawfully obtained without the author's consent. Report any appearances on Amazon.

Unlike the Sanctuary members in Gross Town, who had been apologetic for their late arrival, these Sun City reinforcements seemed more interested in investigating than helping.

If it weren't for Nino and Salomo's intervention, Mithra would have been detained again.

But Nino still had to report back; that was unavoidable.

"What will happen to you?" Mithra asked Nino, who, despite his injuries and bandages, was preparing to return to the inner city after confirming the curse was purged.

Nino's expression was somber. "I'll probably be dismissed. Those who have been waiting for an opportunity to target me will use this. And rightfully so. My negligence led to this disaster,"

"What about the Night Hunters church?" Mithra had privately informed Nino about them.

Nino shook his head. "That's not something we can reveal right now,"

Even though the true conspiracy hadn't been uncovered, Nino would still take the blame.

"Okay, if you encounter trouble, let me know."

"Ha ha, what can an Enchanting Land citizen do? Don't worry. It's just a dismissal. Not a big deal," Nino said with a smile, glancing towards the smoky sky.

"I might destroy everything, remember?" Mithra shrugged.

Nino's lips twitched. "You don't have to joke about that."

Mithra looked at him impassively.

Nino sighed and climbed into the carriage.

They nodded to each other. Words were unnecessary. The carriage slowly drove away.

Mithra turned to see Salomo approaching. "Now I understand why Ms. Orph speaks so highly of you. Someone worthy of receiving her personal communication tablet is clearly no ordinary person. It's a shame I didn't witness your heroic actions,"

There it was again, that inexplicable praise from the Sanctuary.

Mithra wasn't used to it.

It had been the same in Gross Town.

Hadn't Sun City asked her to assist with the investigation as a form of soft house arrest? She had only helped because she found Nino agreeable, and, more importantly, she didn't want Sheng to escape.

Had she really done anything significant?

"I didn't do anything," she said sincerely.

Salomo's admiration grew. "Humility is a virtue. But your selfless actions, saving countless lives in Sun City despite their prejudice, are undeniable,"

Mithra: "..."

Who was he talking about?

She had just talked about "mutual destruction" with Nino.

"However, some things need to be clarified. After all, we can't ignore the Wandering God. We need your cooperation regarding the Wandering God known as the 'Chrysalis',"

"I have it," Mithra said directly.

Salomo nodded, as if expecting this. "So, what do you intend to do with it? We suggest entrusting it to us. The Sanctuary will offer generous compensation."

"I'm going to make a weapon," Mithra replied simply.

"A weapon using the remnants of a Wandering God?"

"Yes. I want to try making a god-killing weapon. It's a valuable material; it would be a waste not to use it," Mithra nodded.

"A god-killing weapon... such an ambitious goal. Could it be that you're planning to..." Salomo asked, surprised.

"Hunt Wandering Gods. Is there a problem with that?"

Salomo's respect intensified. "Is it because of Mr. Safin?"

Mithra: "...No."

What were these Sanctuary people assuming?

And how did he even know about her and Safin? Was it that well-known within the Sanctuary?

"We know. It was our negligence after all. We can help you contact a blacksmith. We have contacts with blacksmiths experienced in forging god-killing weapons within the Inquisition. It's best to seek expert advice for such important weapons. They can provide valuable assistance," Salomo said seriously.

"...Fine."

Mithra agreed. She had a lot of theoretical knowledge from Phaselos, but it was difficult to put it into practice. She needed guidance from an experienced weaponsmith.

"Good. I'll arrange it immediately. And to facilitate communication, here's another communication tablet,"

It was like adding a friend on social media.

Anderet had been right; these communication tablets were incredibly convenient in Dreamland.

"What about the pregnant woman targeted by the Flesh Transmutation believer?" Mithra suddenly remembered and asked.

"The victim has recovered, although she'll likely be unable to have children in the future. Our Flesh Transmutation specialists arrived in time to stabilize her condition. She's currently undergoing curse purification and should be able to return to her normal life soon," Salomo replied.

So the Sanctuary also had Flesh Transmutation believers.

It made sense.

Mithra didn't hold any prejudice against Flesh Transmutation just because she'd seen its grotesque side. If used properly, it could be beneficial.

After their conversation, Salomo left.

Mithra turned to return to Planet Blue and rest.

It seemed Leo Duncan and Nie Hong had been taken to the Planet Blue Embassy in Sun City.

Considering their contributions, they would probably be commended.

A fitting end to the incident.
