Chapter 1 : Another way

Chapter 1 : Another way

"I was tired. I hadn't eaten anything in two days."

I was walking barefoot in a stormy weather, while I could only hear the sound of the strong winds passing through the buildings around me in this city I didn't know.

"Oh my God! Everyone's gone, I have to hurry up and close the place before it rains!"

This girl was saying this as she was rushing, and suddenly her foot slipped off the stairs and she collided with me.

I asked her: "Are you okay?"

The girl was embarrassed, saying: "I'm sorry, Sir, I was in a hurry."

"No problem, be careful with your steps."

I looked behind her and saw a stone building with a large door, so I asked her:

"Excuse me, but what is this place?"

She said: "This is the Adventurer's Guild, don't you know it? You look like you're not from this city."

I replied: "Yes, I just arrived, do you know how to register here?"

The girl frowned, saying: "Sorry, but we closed early today because of the storm, if you have any business here, come back tomorrow."

I felt a little disappointed, but since I had arrived, I didn't mind, I would come back again tomorrow.

The girl left in a hurry, saying: "I have to go now before the storm."

As soon as she left, it started to rain.

The rain was pouring down heavily, and I had nowhere to go, so I walked until my feet were tired, then I found a tree on the outskirts of the city, its leaves were dense, so I was able to take shelter a little from the rain.

After a few hours, the rain stopped and the storm subsided. I was used to sleeping in the open in the past two months, so I was able to sleep under the tree wrapped in the black cloak I was wearing over my clothes. It was very cold that night, and I was completely wet, so I hoped I wouldn't catch a cold.

"What is this heat? It was very cold yesterday."

I woke up at noon the next day. I had slept a long time because I was tired and hadn't slept the night before. I didn't see the features of the place where I slept last night because of the darkness. It is a large place, there is no house nearby. There were only a few scattered trees, and the grass covered the ground, as well as this deserted road near me, which seemed abandoned, as no one had passed by since I woke up. As soon as I leaned my back against the tree, I saw a man running from a distance, panting and looking around. I didn't pay attention to him and didn't look at his face, and when the man passed in front of me, I saw something shiny falling from him. I picked it up and looked at it closely, and found it to be a green stone. I don't know if it's a precious stone or not, because I've never seen it before.

After a few moments, while I was daydreaming about the guild, I heard a voice.

"Excuse me, did you see someone pass by here a few moments ago?"

I looked and saw a boy who looked to be about eighteen years old, with blond hair and blue eyes and facial features that suggested affluence. He was shorter than me and thinner, and he was wearing a white robe embroidered with gold threads. I thought I had seen this outfit before, but I couldn't remember where.

I was a little confused, then I said: "Y...yes, someone passed by here a few moments ago. He..."

Before I could finish my sentence, he ran away quickly, saying loudly:

"Thank you!"

"Damn it, he didn't let me finish...Well, it doesn't matter."

After a while, I saw two girls coming from the same road that the boy came from. One of them had blonde hair and was wearing a blue dress and looked like she was from a wealthy family. The other had black hair and was wearing an outfit that looked like a servant's uniform. The girls were of similar height and walked one behind the other.

The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

The maid looked at me from a distance with sharp eyes, as if she knew me from before, so I averted my gaze from her. Then the boy came and looked disappointed:

"I'm sorry, I couldn't find the thief."

"It's okay, you did your best."

The maid replied, "Lady, we can ask the guild to post a notice for anyone who comes forward with any information about that person."

"Don't worry, Claudia. We won't bother them with something as silly as this."

When I heard this, I remembered that I was supposed to go to the guild today, but I waited to see how this would end.

"Hey, you!" I called out to the boy.

He said, "That's you! I'm so sorry I didn't thank you properly earlier. Thank you very much."

"No need for all that. The important thing is why you were chasing that person."

"He stole something from us."

"Are you referring to this thing?"

I pulled out the stone and showed it to him. In an instant, the girl rushed forward and snatched it from my hand quickly, her eyes filled with tears. I realized that it was something precious to her.

She said in a faint voice, "I thought I would never find it again." Then she added, "Where did you find it?"

"It doesn't matter where I found it. Now that you have what you want, you can leave."

The two of them thanked me gratefully, but the maid stood watchfully, as if she expected me to do something to them. Then they walked away a short distance and stood nearby, as if they were consulting with each other. After a while, they came back to me, and I said to them, "What do you want now?"

The boy said, "Excuse me, what are you doing here?"

I said sarcastically, "Ha! Are you interrogating me now or what?"

He said, "No, I don't mean to be insulting. We just want to repay you for what you did for us."

I said loudly, "There's no need. Just leave me alone."

Then I added, "In fact, I walked for a long time yesterday and lost my way to the guild. Can you give me directions? That would be evensteven."

The boy said excitedly, "Great! Are you an adventurer?"

I was silent for a moment, then I said, "Not yet, but I want to go and get any job. This is my first experience."

The girl said, "Excuse me, what do you think about working in our palace?"

The maid was flustered and agitated, saying, "Lady, you can't trust this strange person! We don't know anything about him, and also..." then she stopped. I don't know, but it seems like she hates me for some reason.

The boy smiled and said, "Claudia, don't be rude! He helped us, and the decision is up to him."

I said in surprise, "Palace?!"

He said, "Yes, it's the palace of the Isabel family."

The girl said, "In fact, it's my uncle's, but I'm the one who takes care of it. You can work there and get a place to stay instead of taking jobs from the guild. I think that's better. If you don't like it, you can quit. It's the least I can do to thank you."

I took a few moments to think: "I don't know if I'll accept working as a servant, but I think it would be a good opportunity to start before I go on this journey, because I don't really know anything."

I said in a low voice, "Okay, I accept your offer, but I think you're exaggerating. It's nothing to write home about. I just found something and returned it to its owner. It's not a big deal."

They looked pleased, except for the maid, of course, but that doesn't confirm the sincerity of their intentions, so I should be careful.

She replied, "No, if someone else had found it, they would have sold it or haggled with us. The situation is difficult because of the conditions in the country."

The boy said, "We forgot to introduce ourselves. I'm Ren, and this is Isabel, the lady of Longrad Castle, and this is Claudia, her assistant."

Then he continued, "I'm the knight of Lady Isabel. Can we know your name?"

I said, "Name? Oh, right. I haven't used my name in a long time..."

"My name is... Jin."

He said, "Jin, Well, it is a pleasure to meet you. It's getting late, let's go home now."

We all got into a carriage pulled by a brown horse. Ren was driving, and I was sitting next to him, while Isabel and Claudia were inside. As soon as the carriage started moving, the night began to fall, and the sunlight gradually disappeared. So I could only see the outlines of the road we were driving on a little bit, and I thought it was probably passing through the middle of a forest.

There were many things intertwined in my mind, because I often thought about my past. This made me sad most of the time. While I was like that, Ren interrupted my train of thought:

"Jin, you seem distracted. Are you okay?"

"Yes."

"If you're nervous, don't worry. Everyone in the palace is very kind, and you'll love them."

I said with a faint smile: "Thank you."

Ren was silent for a moment, then said: "Jin, where are you from?"

"I'm from a very far place from here."

Ren was surprised, saying: "Wow! But what brought you here specifically? If you came for the guild, there are guilds like it in every city. It would be better to go to the capital instead, where you'll find many requests at the guild."

I don't know if he wants to interrogate me or just ask out of curiosity.

"My real goal is not the guild. But let's say I came to fulfill someone's wish and they told me to start here. I don't even know the reason behind it."

Ren replied in frustration: "Haa, I thought your story would be more interesting... Don't be offended, I'm just kidding with you."

I said: "No, you're right. I'm just an ordinary and boring person, a lost person who doesn't know how to do anything."

In a moment, the carriage stopped. They didn't exaggerate when they said it was a castle. It's a very large house, with a large garden full of trees, surrounded by a iron fence. As soon as we entered the main gate, we found people gathered in front of it, inside the palace.
