Chapter 5: An Attempt
Dipak blinked slowly, trying to make sense of his surroundings. A strange, thick fog swirled around him, making it hard to see more than a few feet ahead. It wasn't like normal fog—it moved as if it were alive, twisting and turning in ways that made Dipak's head spin.
"Where am I?" he whispered, his voice sounding muffled in the heavy air. He looked around, his heart beating fast in his chest. Everything was grey, but within the fog, he saw something that made him catch his breath. Countless red dots, like tiny stars, floated all around him. Some were bright and close, while others were so faint and far away he could barely see them.
Without thinking, Dipak reached out with a shaky hand towards one of the nearby red stars. As soon as his fingers touched it, he felt a strange ripple go through his whole body. The star suddenly got much brighter, glowing like a hot coal. Dipak jumped back in surprise, but as he moved, his hand accidentally brushed against another star. This one lit up too, just as bright as the first.
All of a sudden, Dipak's mind was filled with flashing images. It was like watching a movie, but the scenes were jumbled and unclear. He saw a man standing in front of a fog just like this one, but he couldn't make out the man's face. As quickly as they had come, the images faded away, leaving Dipak feeling dizzy and confused.
He took a deep breath, trying to calm down. This wasn't the first time something like this had happened to him, but it had never been this strong before. It felt like there were holes in his memory, like someone had taken parts of his past and locked them away where he couldn't reach them.
As Dipak stood there, trying to make sense of what was happening, the scene shifted. Suddenly, he wasn't alone in the fog anymore.

In a fancy room in the city of Backlund, a young woman named Audrey Hall sat in front of an old, cracked mirror. The room was full of expensive furniture, and there was a strange energy in the air that made the hairs on her arms stand up. Audrey leaned closer to the mirror, running her fingers along the old carvings on its edge.
"Mirror, mirror, wake up," she said, sounding both impatient and frustrated. "I'm from the Hall family, and I'm telling you to wake up!"
She had tried saying all sorts of things to the mirror, but nothing worked. Finally, she sighed and pushed her chair back from the dresser, frowning.
"Dad must have been lying again," she muttered quietly. "He's always telling me these crazy stories... 'Dark Emperor's treasure,' yeah right..."
If you spot this story on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
But as soon as she finished speaking, the mirror suddenly lit up with a bright red light. The light grew bigger and bigger until it covered Audrey completely. Her eyes went wide with shock as everything around her disappeared.
---
Far away, on a ship in the stormy Sonia Sea, a man named Alger Wilson stood on the deck. He was wearing a long coat with lightning designs on it, which whipped around him in the strong wind. In his hand, he held a strange glass bottle. Inside the bottle, a tiny storm was raging.
"We still need more Ghost Shark blood," Alger said to himself, his voice almost lost in the howling wind. Just as he tightened his grip on the bottle, a bright red light suddenly appeared between the glass and his hand. The light grew quickly, swallowing everything around it.

Back in the grey fog, Dipak blinked in surprise as two people suddenly appeared near him. One was a young woman with golden hair and fancy clothes. The other was a man who stood tall and straight, looking like he was used to being in charge.
In the fog of grey mist, Audrey Hall regained her sight. She started reckoning the situation in a state of horror and confusion when she noticed the blurry image of a man on the opposite side of her doing the same. Immediately after, both of them discovered another mysterious figure standing not far from them, shrouded in grey mist.
The 'mysterious person' was none other than Dipak.
Dipak's mind raced. He vaguely recognized the woman, but he couldn't remember from where. It was like trying to remember a dream—the more he tried to focus on it, the more it slipped away. He knew he had to be careful. These people might be dangerous, or they might be able to help him. Either way, he needed to be smart about how he dealt with them.
The woman spoke first, her voice shaky but trying to sound brave. "Sir, where is this place?"
The man's voice was stronger, almost angry. "What are you planning to do with us?"
Dipak paused, thinking hard. He had a feeling that he shouldn't let them know he was just as confused as they were. A faint memory tickled the back of his mind—something about acting mysterious and powerful. Yes, that felt right. If he could make them think he was in control, maybe he could figure out what was going on.
Taking a deep breath, Dipak spoke in a calm, quiet voice that somehow seemed to fill the misty air around them. "An attempt," he said, surprised at how natural the words felt.
The woman's eyes went wide, and she gave a small, nervous smile. "Sir, is the attempt over? Can we go back now?"
Dipak knew he had to be careful. He couldn't give away too much, because he didn't know anything himself. He needed time to think, to figure out what was happening. For now, he had to keep them guessing.
"Yes," he said simply, letting the word hang in the air.
As soon as he spoke, the fog seemed to get thicker, swirling around them like it was alive. Dipak felt a strange power here, something he didn't understand but somehow knew he could use. He had to be careful, though. If he pushed too hard, he might lose control of everything.
The man, Alger, looked around carefully. He had seen many strange things in his life at sea, but this fog was different. It felt alive, moving in a way that matched his heartbeat. This wasn't just some trick or illusion—it was something much more dangerous. The thought made him nervous, and he subtly changed his stance, ready for anything that might happen.
Alger reached for the bottle at his waist but stopped when he noticed the red light still glowing on his hand.
Dipak watched them both, his mind racing. He needed to use this situation to his advantage. If they thought he was some powerful, unknown being, he could use that. And maybe, just maybe, he could learn something from them too.
As the scene started to fade, Dipak's heart pounded with a mix of fear and excitement. Whatever this place was, it held the key to something much bigger than he could understand right now. But with each step, each meeting, he felt like his memory was slowly coming back, leading him closer to the truth hidden in the fog.
Alger's mind was working fast, trying to come up with plans and backup plans. He knew that what happened next could decide whether they ever saw their world again. The air around them felt tense, filled with their confusion, worry, fear, and a strange kind of respect for the mysterious situation they found themselves in.
As the fog swirled and thickened once more, Dipak, Audrey, and Alger stood in uneasy silence, each wondering what would happen next in this strange, misty realm.
