Chapter 9 - Zhu's profession

Chapter 9 - Zhu's profession

Zhu's shoulder was in excruciating pain. He gripped the long neck of the human-faced beast with one hand, but the beast's bite force was said to be equivalent to two Northeastern Tigers. He almost felt like his shoulder was about to be bitten off!

At that moment, Zhu suddenly heard a familiar voice.

"Zhu, don't be afraid, I'm here!"

After years of friendship, Zhu immediately recognized that it was Jiang Kai!

"Hold its head!" Jiang Kai roared.

Zhu did as he was told right away, and then there was a squelching sound from his shoulder, followed by a spray of blood...

Jiang Kai gripped the Venomous Sting tightly with both hands, using all his strength to stab it fiercely into the ugly face of the human-faced beast.

The steel spike of the Venomous Wild Boar was indeed hard, and with Jiang Kai's perfect timing for a sneak attack, the full-force strike drove the spike directly into the beast's face, penetrating deep into its throat!

The female voice of the Calling system rang out.

[Kill completed, gained 2 experience points, 98 points needed to level up.]

[Obtained item "Corpse of the Long-Necked Human-Faced Beast" (can be dissected)]

The human-faced beast on the ground suddenly turned into a card, with an image depicting the beast's death.

"Jiang Kai!" Zhu turned around, looking at Jiang Kai with excitement.

But Jiang Kai didn't have time to worry about leveling up. He picked up the card from the ground and urgently said to Yuan Zhu, "Let's get out of here, quickly!"

***

Jiang Kai and Yuan Zhu hid among the rocks by the river.

There was no absolutely safe place in the trial area, and both of them were in bad shape, unable to go far.

This spot was convenient for Zhu to clean his wounds and easy to spot any beasts, so they had to rest here for now.

Zhu's injuries were severe, with multiple wounds all over his body, bleeding profusely.

Jiang Kai thought to himself that if he had suffered such serious injuries, he would probably be dead by now.

Jiang Kai helped Zhu clean his wounds a bit, and now all they could do was wait for him to pull through.

Zhu, however, seemed to be in good spirits, looking excited after seeing Jiang Kai.

"Jiang Kai, I've been looking for you!" Zhu said, ignoring his injuries. "You know, I've had a class change!"

Jiang Kai frowned, "I can tell. Without the class change, you'd be dead by now. But where did you get the class change materials?"

This book's true home is on another platform. Check it out there for the real experience.

"You might not believe it if I tell you. Do you remember when we went to the dark alley and met a man being chased?"

Jiang Kai thought for a moment and nodded, "I remember."

"He escaped to our neighborhood, and I saved him. He gave me a set of class change materials."

"Is that even possible?" Jiang Kai said in surprise. "Who was he?"

The matters involved in the dark alley were beyond the understanding of ordinary people like them. Jiang Kai hoped Zhu would stay away from trouble.

"He said he wasn't a bad person. Anyway, he promised us he'd leave as soon as possible," Zhu said.

Jiang Kai nodded, thinking it might be best to check out Zhu's place.

But then again, if that man gave Zhu class change materials, he must be someone who repays kindness.

"What kind of materials did he give you?"

Zhu, ignoring his injuries, grinned at Jiang Kai, "Martial Apprentice!"

"Martial Apprentice?!" Jiang Kai was truly shocked to hear those words.

A set of Martial Apprentice class change materials had appeared over a decade ago, selling for an astonishing 51 million Alliance Coins!

It's no exaggeration to say that Martial Apprentice is the strongest profession in China, and it's a trump card that can compete with the strongest professions from other countries!

And if the materials were sold, Zhu's family could instantly become wealthy.

Seeing Jiang Kai's expression, Zhu seemed to know what he was thinking and shook his head regretfully, "I wanted to sell it too, but the man gave me a condition: I must pass the Newcomer Trial. If I don't pass this year, I must come back next year with a certificate! He said I must become stronger."

Jiang Kai frowned, finding such a condition a bit strange.

Fortunately, this condition didn't seem to have any downside for Zhu.

"By the way, Jiang Kai, how did you do? Did the Incomplete materials work?"

Jiang Kai recounted his experience, "I got lucky, it worked out. As long as I pass the Newcomer Trial, I can start making money."

"Gambler... a new profession, huh!" Yuan Zhu looked at Jiang Kai in surprise.

A new profession also meant an unknown future path.

Jiang Kai said nonchalantly, "I don't care about that. I came to the Calling mainly to make money. The key now is to pass the Newcomer Trial."

"This Newcomer Trial is terrifying," Jiang Kai said sincerely.

They had only been in the Newcomer Trial for half a day, and both of them had just narrowly escaped death!

Zhu felt the same way, as the current strongest profession in China, he almost died on the first night of the trial!

"By the way, where did you get that steel spike? I want one too," Zhu asked curiously.

Jiang Kai rolled his eyes at Zhu, "You want one too? That's the steel spike of a Venomous Wild Boar! How did I get it... let's just say I borrowed it!"

Not wanting to mention the arrow incident, Jiang Kai changed the subject.

"Speaking of which, killing a human-faced beast only gives 2 experience points, and leveling up requires 100 points. Is the difficulty of leveling up in the Calling really that exaggerated?"

Zhu shook his head, "With so many players in China, it took fifty years to occupy 100,000 square kilometers. It must be tough."

After going their separate ways, the good brothers were now reunited in the Calling, and both were very happy.

More importantly, both had completed their class changes, and Yuan Zhu had become the strongest profession in China, the Martial Apprentice!

They compared their attributes.

Zhu's four attributes were Strength 8, Physique 8, Agility 5, and Spirit 5.

His profession talent was called "Warrior's Bloodline."

Upon class change and leveling up, all attributes received additional bonuses. On his first class change, his Strength and Physique each increased by 2 points, and Agility and Spirit increased by 1 point.

From his post-class change attributes, his initial Strength and Physique were at the "Rare" level.

Additionally, in battle, if he was in a "Potential Activation" state, his attacks would have the "True Power" effect.

The so-called True Power effect included knockback, defense breaking, intimidation, and true energy attacks. In the future, with weapons, this effect could be directly transferred to the weapon, and the effect would grow stronger as the profession level increased.

Seeing Zhu's profession talent, Jiang Kai finally understood why Martial Apprentice class change materials could sell for such a high price.

The base attributes had bonuses, and the profession talent was even more terrifying!

It truly was a profession born for combat.

Zhu was even more shocked.

"Damn, why are your Agility and Spirit so high?! What's with 12 points! And your Physique is the same as mine!"

Jiang Kai said, "I only have strong attributes, but I don't have combat abilities."

"I do!" Zhu said excitedly, "I think if we go together, we might be able to pass the Newcomer Trial."

Jiang Kai looked at Zhu with disdain, "The instructor said that teaming up is dangerous. I think you're just scared to go alone."

Zhu lowered his head and chuckled, "Hehe, maybe a little... That human-faced beast looked like a ghost, it scared me to death!"

Jiang Kai held his forehead, anyone could see that you were scared out of your wits just now.

But come to think of it, Zhu's timid nature might make it easier to activate his "Potential State."

The two were brothers, and their attributes complemented each other well. Despite the instructor's warning, Jiang Kai wouldn't refuse Zhu.

At that moment, a weak voice came from behind a large rock behind Jiang Kai.

"Um... if you two are going together, could you, could you take me with you?"

Jiang Kai quickly turned around and stood up, only to find a woman standing behind him.

The woman had long hair tied up, a slender and well-proportioned figure, and a beautiful face that looked tired, timid, and fearful.

Her upper clothing was missing, and she covered her chest with one arm, though it seemed not very effective, as something seemed ready to pop out.

She wore a watch on her wrist, which appeared to be a high-end model.

Her skin was smeared with dirt and mixed with red bloodstains, but it seemed her original skin was quite fair.

Her eyes were filled with fear and pleading, and it was unclear what she had gone through.

The woman gathered her courage and looked at Jiang Kai and Zhu, "I... I almost got eliminated. If I'm alone, with my profession, I probably won't make it out..."

Seeing Jiang Kai and Zhu not speaking, she tentatively said, "I think you might need someone to help you with your wounds..."

As she spoke, she pointed at Jiang Kai's backside.
