Adolescence was amusing to Jacob. He laughed defiantly at the difficulties, dangers and pitfalls of life. He felt the humble sense of an underdog in his spirit that would swing if he got pushed too far. Classmates ironically bolstered his confidence as he was often viewed as one with a good heart, and a meek spirit that was vulnerable; he was tested at every turn proving his strength true and strong. He learned the fight in him was likened to someone who would let the fire burn up his arm just so he could not feel his nerves. Then he would use the freedom from pain to swiftly take out his adversaries who's punches he could no longer feel. He found a fight in him that would crawl, scratch, and knash his way out of any brawl, physical, or psychological.
The woods were his sanctuary. He would often go there to collect his thoughts and regain his composure. He marveled at the simple beauty of an ecosystem that was made up of so many complex systems of life but remained one,and connected. To him nature was the only place left unaffected by mankind's careless neglect of his responsibility to be true and decent with his power to conquer, and reign. He would experience great moments of peace and clarity in those woods that encompassed Asheville, N.C with a great expanse of God's own handiwork.

No time was spent in vain at this time in his life. He calculated every step, and was enriched by every life lesson. He was like a boxer who did not swing and miss. He soaked up everything like a sponge as each experience taught him something new and valuable about life. As cruel as he was beginning to see life could be, he kept his conquering spirit and defiant sense of humor about it all. Friends were collected rarely, and carefully. They were integrated into his life far and in-between. He always kept people at a safe distance so as to prevent anyone's influence from affecting his sense of diligent independence. School was just a regurgitation of junk made valuable by a system that turned men and women into cogs and pistons. Eventually they would empower an economy that was controlled by the few who manipulate the masses for their own profit, and gain.
