The Initial Question

Disclaimer: This is a completely original story that I am experimenting with on Royal Road. The updates might not always be regular but I will try to keep the timely if there are no complications that delay them in real life. All characters and place appearing in this work are fictitious. Any resemblance to real persons, living or dead is purely coincidental. Please enjoy TKO~!

I am nobody important; in fact, I do not want to be somebody important. Hell, I do not even want to talk about my story but I have to share my naivety with the rest of the world. For the purpose of this story, you can call me Taka short for Mekanokita Takameshika. There is no need to Google my name it does not mean anything that can really make sense to anyone I made it up for the purpose of this story. There is nothing really that is exiting about me I am not the brooding weirdo that sits as the end corner of the class nor am the rich, intelligent, all-star of the school. I am an average person just like everyone else. I do not have an ugly face or a handsome one; in fact, there are no striking features about me that stand out. Well that is except for height, compared to the average in my country I am very tall standing at 6'4"(195 cm). Well considering if you are not from the Dinaric Alps then I will be a tall person anywhere in the world. You would be wondering why I should care about an unknown man whose only defining feature I know is that he is tall.

Well the reason is that I am the only one that can make sure that you stay alive. Unicorn Corporation is big, very big and how did they become so big well you already know that. I do not know how long this post will be on the internet as Unicorn is probably monitoring any and all articles with the keywords "death", "R-L death", "Royal Road death" and all possible keyword in every language in the world related to these keywords and there are 6909 distinct languages spoken. You probably opened another tab to search and see if what I am telling you is true or not. Now you are probably about to close my thread dismissing it as rubbish or a stunt to grasp the attention of the people. Well, if you did, you are probably dead or are already dying and if you are still curious whether these are, a mad man's ramblings or not then congratulations you get to try to stay alive. However, to stay alive you need to follow my instructions systematically without asking questions. It is pertinent to your safety and mine that you follow every single step as I tell them to you.

Can you follow simple instructions? If so, you may just get to live and save your loved ones. Now my first instruction is to ask a simple question following the statistics I am providing. There are eleven billion people now on the planet, out of which at least thirty-fife percent are full time Royal Road players. That is 385,000,000 people playing Royal Road for at least an eighteen-hour period. The average reaction time for humans is 0.25 seconds to a visual stimulus, 0.17 for an audio stimulus, and 0.15 seconds for a touch stimulus. That is about potentially 259,200 seconds of visual stimuli, 381,176 seconds of audio stimuli and 432,000 seconds of touch stimuli that are all processing for eighteen hours non-stop on at least 134 million seconds of stimuli constantly pushing the Unicorn servers to keep up with these processes. Now take a games peak hour in the evening or on weekends and you have nearly all the people at some point in time on the servers waiting to not only process each command that your brain is giving your body. In addition, it keeps up with your brain's perception power of time, motion, and sends the data to your brain to move the virtual body not the one in the pod. Do you want to know the question now that you know these facts? Well then, get ready to dive in into your inner minds.

This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.

Your mind is a complex machine of signals that are associated with each other. In your mind, memory is in three parts- the encoding, storage, and retrieval. The encoding is the receiving of the information, as in which sense you use to obtain said information. All the information received is then stored and I do mean all of it, just how it is stored and where it is stored varies on the situation in, which the information was received. The retrieval matters on how much that certain information matters to you, the amount of times you require said information and the last time you used this information.

Now you might think you only know so much or do not remember something from a long time ago but there is a reason for that. Your brain is made of billions of neurons and each connects to at least a thousand more neurons making a network of a trillion neurons which can store up to approximately 2.5 petabytes of data that is 2560 terabytes. Our conscious brain that is aware of and using these connections is only 10 percent, which means we only actively remember and use about 256 terabytes of the stimuli we encounter. Our subconscious takes up about 50-60 percent of our brain so let us say an average of 55 percent, which translates to 1400 terabytes of the information, is in our subconscious. The remaining 904 terabytes are in your unconscious brain, which you have suppressed or forgotten because they are no longer important.

You might be wondering why I made you go through a psych-IT class. Well it was to educate you to the wonder of your mind and to display the power of Unicorn and its researchers. They found a way to manipulate your brain to believe that you log out daily or forced to log out after the "safety limit" of what your body can endure expires. However, when you log out what do you do in the real world. Have you ever questioned the fact if you are in the real world or you are still in your machine? That is correct the Log Out button on the screen only stimulates an actual log out that triggers your unconscious and subconscious minds to construct your daily world. You are imagining that you logged out while you peacefully rot away in your unit.

Do you want proof of Unicorn doing this to you? Well, there is none except how do you think Unicorn handles the global load of people on their servers. The answer is you and your brain is the source of power to the company. The server runs on the imagination of the people who believe they are in the real world and that is what is fueling the rest of the players while you spend a day in the normal world. Well if you want to live you need to log out. This page might not be up for long with Unicorn on my tail but keep an eye out for me. I am Taka your savior.
