Chapter 2: Getting to know each other

Chapter 2

“Is there anything I should call you little guy?”

In response to my words, it starts to smack its soft side flaps onto the side of my head, and stomp its little feet. Despite not hurting at all I still flinch a little due to the surprise.

“ah, sorry! Stop! I should have known someone as cute as you is a girl. I just didn’t want to assume.”

As I butter it up it slowly stops and I feel **pride and courage**

“What should I call you”

“Ha ha Hatenna”

“Pleasure to meet you Hatenna, my name is Reed. Are you just going to stay on my head?”

The small creature responds by projecting a general **positive** feeling along with a small little noise.

“I assume that is a yes. Is there any reason why?”

**amusement and patronization.**

“Is there a reason you decided to stay with me? You know I can’t help you with anything, right?”

**warm, sleepy, cozy**

“I am … comfortable?”

**Strong calm happiness**

“Thanks, you are making this much more bearable too, I just feel almost more complete like this.”

** Quiet, CALM **

The heartwarming exchange is interrupted, however, by a loud grumbling from my stomach that spooks the hatenna, to my amusement.

“Sorry friend it seems I am a little hungry.”

Man I wish I had the opportunity to eat before whatever happened happened, I am starving.

I get up slowly from where I had sat down and stretch.

"Do you know where I can find some food?”

I give it a little time to think as I slowly look around and quick enough it makes a little noise and uses its side feelers to latch onto the side of my head and move it to face a certain direction.

“over there?”

**positive**

“well if you say so might as well give it a try.”

We make good time despite moving slowly. It helps that through some power hatenna can sense the creatures moving around in the forest. During the one to two-hour walk, I spot a wide variety of creatures including more of the small yellow spiders as well as some blue and yellow caterpillars and dark grey caterpillars. Other than the bugs there are floating flower sprites, grey squirrels, small orange foxes, and small round blue birds that I can spot from time to time.

All this diversity is just incredible and I can’t help but wonder at the sights around me despite how perilous my situation is, it helps that with the hatenna on my head I just feel safe. My amazement also amuses it, I can regularly feel that emotion coming from whatever empathic link has connected us since she first hopped on my head.

We do still make it to the food which is a small clearing with a few varieties of colorful berry bushes lying mostly untouched.

“This is it” I whisper to the hatenna.

**positive**

“Do you have any favorites?”

It guides me to a peach-looking fruit that I pick, split, and share before taking a bite into one of the sweetest tastiest fruits I can imagine. It tasted like nature's candy and after finishing the first I repeated the process with a second berry before suddenly and without warning I was hit with an incredible physical weight that brings me onto my hands and knees.

In my mind, a great and terrible voice made of thousands of whispers said straight into a weighting ear and thousands more screams and anything in-between speaking at once say…

**“Int'rlop'r thee has't trespass'd on mine own grove and assault'd mine own kind. thee has't moments left to live speaketh thy lasteth w'rds wisely!”**
