Malachi went through his days with the same routines. Waking up in the morning and forced to drink the poisoned tea after Aldric slap him in the face. He didn’t fight back and simply do as told.
Whenever Lily came and told him to prostate on the ground, he would do so without a word which made her laugh.
He did all this knowing that he would pay them back a thousand time one day.
The sky was covered with gray clouds today, seemingly about to rain.
Inside the Mansion of the second floor, all of the opened windows began to be closed by the maid. The wind blew quite hard.
“It rarely rains in Trilea.” Aldric frowned as he walked through the hallway, gazing at the sky through the window. “Something doesn’t seems right. Especially that kid Malachi. He used to stare at me with anger and fight back but all of a sudden he turned soft and meek. I can’t let my guard down.”
Aldric snapped his finger and a maid walked towards him before bowing.
“You called, master?”
“Check on that boy. Make sure he doesn’t leave his room.”
“Yes, master.” The maid bowed once again before leaving towards Malachi’s room.
Water droplets began to fall, crashing onto the concretes. And then, heavy rain suddenly drop, creating loud noise from outside.
The sun was just rising, and with the end of the rain, and clearance of the sky, the world seemed to become more alive.
Malachi squinted his eyes and furrowed his brows as he scanned the forest from the second floor. He was trying to map the forest and trying to recall the exact location of the book.
The forest stretched out as far as the eye could see, filled with towering trees and lush vegetation. It was hard for him to locate the book from here. He could barely see anything with all the trees in the way.
“I have to go there. The sooner the better.”
Knock! Knock!
“Young Master, are you there?”
“I am here,” Malachi replied, thinking that Aldric must not be nearby since the maid dare to call him with the title master. “What do you need?”
Stolen from its rightful place, this narrative is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
“Master Aldric told me to check on you. Would you like me to bring anything?”
“No need.”
“Then, I will take my leave.”
Malachi frowned. “It seems like Aldric is being wary. That bastard is too careful. Sneaking out of here will be much harder.”
“Do you need my help?” Seraphina popped into existence and sat on my shoulder.
“How do you offer to help?”
“I can go to the forest and look for that book. Just tell me its rough location.”
Malachi’s eyes lit up. “Do that for me.”
He then drew a rough area of the forest on the wooden floor with his finger before instructing Seraphina where to look.
“Look carefully below the buttress roots. The color of the book is brown with dark shade, the same color with the roots, so it will be hard to notice.”
“Leave it to me. I will return once I find it.” Seraphina then zipped out of the window like a fairy.
The guards below looked at the sky, but they saw didn’t see anything and think nothing of it.
“With Seraphina assisting me in finding that book, I should be able to learn necromancy a lot sooner than my past live.”
In his past live, he had to live in torture for a few year before he decided to learn necromancy and use it to escape.
“Right now, I am simply too weak. The guards would catch up to me if I tried to run. Besides, I want to do more than just running away.”
Suddenly, the door to his room opened and Aldric and a bunch of figures in academic attire walked in.
What a perfect situation to ruin his morning.
“Is it okay to enter your son’s room without knocking, Father Aldric?”
Aldric let out a little laugh. “Me and my son are very close. You can say that we are the best of friend. Ever since her mother died, I have been taking care of him all myself.”
The maids nearby looked at each other before quickly looking down. Of course, they knew the truth, but would their tongue dare to speak it out?
“You must have been treating him like he is your own son.”
“He is my son. Even though it isn’t my blood running through his veins, I will not treat him differently.”
“As expected from Father Aldric. You have such a pure and kind heart. Forgive my tongue to speak of such things.”
“It is fine. I am myself also a teacher like yourself. But whereas I teach how to live, how to behave, and how to think, and how to pray to god, I lack the area in teaching magic. I believe Malachi is at the age where he should be learning magic.”
“How old is he?” The man with the academic attire asked. He seemed to hold the highest position among the other teachers.
“He is 8 years old.”
“He is still young. Most children began to learn magic at the age of 10 to 15.”
“Haish, it’s better he go out and learn magic early. Ever since her mother died, he refuses to go outside and make friends. I don’t want him to be a spoiled child and overly dependent on me. Sooner or later he has to grow.”
“The magic academy is far outside of town, will that be fine?”
“It will be fine. The more he explore the outside world, the better it would be for him.”
“In that case, I will bring him with me.”
“Did you hear that, Malachi? You’re going to learn magic. Professor Thaddeus will bring you to a magic academy.”
Malachi was shocked by the sudden news. This had never happened before. In his past life, he was never allowed to leave the house. So what had happened that led to this?
‘Is it my change of behavior? Since I act differently than my past life, the outcome also change. Even though the difference of my action seems little, but it can actually change the entire situations. Aldric must have a plan to kill me when I leave this place. I cannot let that happen.’
