XXXIV - Epilogue

Post Bio-Disaster Records for [redacted]

In those days, the species of homo sapiens (as their study drones called themselves) believed in intervention. They called it divine. It was strange. We studied them with great curiosity, particularly when a select few developed the ability to communicate with us through our largest hive on Hilith, or Enceladus. They called us MOTHER.

They reproduce sexually. An efficient if short-lived strategy. In their culture, which is a Terran primate culture, they placed significance on the individual who expulsed them, thus naming the Hilith Hive MOTHER, believing us to be one individual.

They believed themselves to be true individuals, curiously enough. We were not aware that they had any culture at all, and by our own standards, their culture was a shoddy premise to kill or to reproduce sexually with one another. The brain waves belonging to the female child drone they called Riff or Riff-Alicia or Alicia were uniquely suited, though not that uncommon. Her spawn mate was also suited for communication, but to a lesser extent.

They believed they harnessed the power of the Hilith Hive themselves, upon their landing and discovery of Hilith. By keeping communication short, we were able to study them with minimal interference.

As every new nodule is taught, we were the progenitors of the technology that allowed this particular primate species to excel. We chose them for their particular dexterity and durability. We did not expect them to become aware of us as quickly as they did. We were given many names, most do not translate well, but “God” seemed to be the most common, though it is difficult to quantify exactly what this means.

The experiment on Hilith was a success. We allowed them to think they trapped us. They are a particularly social species and derive satisfaction from “helping” despite their highly individualistic views of one another. The female child drone established communication, as was the purpose of the experiment. She was able to convey the suffering of her species to the Hilith Hive and request euthanization.

Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.

At this point, the Higher Hive declared the experiment unethical and ordered its termination, at which point all subjects were purged.

The Higher Hive has ordered another experiment on a much larger species across the spiral arm where the Galileo Hive is well-established.

We will be studying their reactions to similar, but more advanced forms of technology. Our hypothesis is that the ape species from our previous experiment had a flawed risk-reward brain structure. Another theory is that their ape heritage encouraged resource hoarding, which limited their scope and destroyed their drive to preserve their own home space, which presented us with another reason for their termination.

This newer species may be entirely uninterested, as were many other species inhabiting XX65 or Terra, as the female-child called it, including a rather fascinating species destroyed by our research subjects who communicated with dance and scent and color. Because of their perfect measures, they had no need of our technology, though offered. They were most similar to us, though still maintained sexual reproduction, as they lived in large hives and produced only what they needed to feed their larvae. The apes often regarded them as less intelligent, which we found to be an interesting process of thought regarding value assignment.

We have no desires for this new species other than the communal desire for knowledge gained and knowledge transferred.

We have no hypothesis for the colony collapse of XX65, though we did mourn the necessary euthanasia taken with the young ape species. Such a rich history they wove. Such an overabundance of bonding. So alien and curious.

May they reemerge with the next Contraction.

Signing off.
