[Day 1]
Hi, my name is Lisa Rendell. I am a Newman and part of a colonization effort by our homeworld of Coral. I have been on board the colony ship Pioneer 2 since I was 21, I am now 28 after our seven year long journey. Yes, this was a long journey, and to help idle away the time, I have enlisted the intellectual pursuit of my hobbies. I am fond of blackjack, poker and chess, although I am terrible at the two former and my skills are mediocre at best with the latter.
I do not keep journals or logs normally, but I am writing this on the eve of a terrible accident. As the ship (Pioneer 2) entered orbit of the planet Ragol's solar system, we all awaited the incoming transmissions from the colonists below. Our seven year wait was finally over and we were ecstatic. I was looking forward to catching up with some of the colonists and see where their minds had gone over the last seven years.
That never happened.
Instead, just as transmission from Pioneer 2 was cut, a dome of light appeared on the planet's surface and transmission with the colonists of Pioneer 1 were lost. I don't know what to think. More news is coming in as the hours go by.
[Day 1; Supplemental]
It turns out the dome of light was a massive explosion. No public statements have been made at this time by the leaders of Pioneer 2.
[Day 1; Supplemental]
We don't know what to think. There have been no further transmissions from the planet below, communications to the planet remain unanswered and the leaders of Pioneer 2 are remaining silent on what is going on.
[Day 2]
I've received a job enquiry from the Hunter's Guild. If that doesn't sound familiar, I'll backup and provide a bit of backstory. My hobbies were not enough to simply stay active and proud as I normally like to be, in fact, I've probably changed since our journey began; so, I decided to join Pioneer 2's branch of the Hunter's Guild. I'm not much of the violent type and I'll admit, I'm more of a sci-fi nerd than anything else, but I've always adored the idea of self defence and being able to train with a weapon. My entry meant I'd be given a weapon of choice and I would be given a surprise gift; I was only good with a saber so that was all I could ask for, the gift was something called 'Mag'. I'm not quite sure what it does, and it doesn't appear to do anything really. Tradition in the Hunter's Guild says every new Hunter is given a mag. It's said they'll protect us when the time comes, but I don't believe it. I probably should have kept up with my training and showed up at Guild events more often; instead, I've spent my time playing my favorite hobbies - poker, blackjack and chess. Now I've received an enquiry and it's listed as top priority.
The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement.
[Day 3; Supplemental]
The attendant at the Hunter's Guild counter has stated I, among others, will be participating in a simulation of sorts. It will be based on data gathered from probes launched earlier. The goal? Take out any hostilies encountered and proceed to any trapped colonists.
[Day 3; Supplemental]
Stupid, this simulator is stupid. I can't believe it's a small area.
[Edit] I passed btw.
[Day 3; Supplemental]
I guess I've been selected among other Hunters as a possible candidate to explore Ragol's surface. Am I that good?
[Day 4; Supplemental]
Unbelievable that I'd be picked; but I'm not the first. Instead, the other Hunters (consisting of five hunters, two forces and two rangers) have not been heard back from for at least one day. I am a 'reserve' candidate. Better short of nothing, right?
[Addendum] The scenario is thus; Shortly after Pioneer 2 entered orbit we lost contact. That is the official statement, and that is the statement the Principal has relayed to me in his chamber. A transporter pad has been successfully launched as of day two of Pioneer 2 contact. Several of the missing Hunters are among those that gathered information for the simulation. Ragol's wildlife is known to be hostile, but there are know known surviving colonists. Any attempts to reach inhabited areas have been met with nothing but swarms of hostile wildlife. We do not have a heavy army, and most infantry are already in use aboard Pioneer 2. The Hunter's Guild has been requested for help for this reason and the best Hunters are being picked for the job. This is a shame, because on Pioneer 2 there are simply very few Hunters to go around and most of us treat it as a hobby. The Principal seems to go back quite a bit with the Guild, so his better judgement trusts us for the job. Right now he just wants us to transport to the surface, gather any information we can find, and report back at the earliest convenience.
Scientists in the Principal's chamber have nothing to report; there was simply no data beamed aboard Pioneer 2 during initial contact. Strange isn't it? Another scientist thinks that the inhabitants of a planet should die with the planet, rather than immigrate.
On the offnote, the Principal's secretary, Irene, pulled me aside to discuss a private matter about the Principal's daughter. It would seem that she was a top scientist on Pioneer 1 and also an expert hunter.
[Subnote] I've been informed that Pioneer 1 had a larger arsenal and the main army aboard. Considering the lack of weaponry, money and jobs abouard Pioneer 2, I have been informed that any items I find on the surface are 'Finder's Keepers'. Simply put
[Psychiatrist's Note] Miss Rendell will continue to undergo psycho evaluation while we continue to read through her log entries. Miss Rendell displays an odd array of disorders, among them grandios disillusions about the impending doom of Pioneer 2 and Planet Ragol by an entity she refers as 'Dark Falz'. One of our leading scientists, 'Rico Tyrell' is out by way of that direction, and it shouldn't be too much of a stretch to have her investigate the matter personally. In the meantime, and on an unrelated note, I look forward to the final transport of the Pioneer project's main wave of colonists after Pioneer 2 reaches orbit sometime this week.
[Narrator's Note] Pyschiatrist's notes go on for some time about various patients and other shortcomings or musings. His entries suddenly end the minute Pioneer 2 makes contact with planet Ragol below. This sounds like a great game idea.
