Chapter 1: The News

Chapter 1: The News

Sweat all over my body, I wake up from a nightmare of some sorts. It’s so hot in my bed. I thought I had better fans in my room. My eyes are still blurry. I didn’t put on my contacts.

Wait. My room isn’t white. Why am I in the hospital? Oh fuck, don’t tell me that was real. Don’t tell me I jumped in for that girl.

After trying to rub my eyes to clear my vision more, I start to see all the hopital equipment around me. On the right is the window, looking out onto the beautiful trees out there in the distance. After looking at the clock, it seems like it’s just past afternoon. Guess I’ve been out for a whole day, or even more.

Right when I started to think more about what I’m going to do, a doctor came in the room.

“Looks like the little champ is awake, you feeling alright?” the doctor asked.

“Yea, I’m alright for now. How long have I been here?” I replied.

“Not too long really, just 3 weeks.”

“So what’s the problem with me doc? Anything wrong after getting hit by a truck?”

I asked while biting my lip.

“Umm… Before I answer that, your parents are just outside. You can come in now,” he said in a loud voice.

“Hey,” I said while they walked in awkwardly. It seems like the news is going to suck.

“Ok. So, to break it to you,” he paused for a few minutes then continued after taking a big breath, “You can’t play soccer anymore. The lower half of your body is paralyzed. You were lucky that you weren’t that messed up; we were able to save the other half.”

I start to stare with sorrow. That’s it, I’m done. I can’t do anything now. I can’t even play the sport that I loved so much; now my days are going to be nothing. Nothing exciting, nothing fun. Then something popped up in my mind. How am I going to go to my classes with a wheelchair? Every one of my classes needs going up and down the stairs.

“How about my school life?” I asked the doctor.

“I don’t think you can go to the same school, they don’t seem to support wheelchairs. The school buildings seems to be very outdated,” he said sourly. “But since you are facing a disability, you are entitled to be taught online.”

This book's true home is on another platform. Check it out there for the real experience.

“Yea kiddo, the government is willing to pay for you to just take your classes online. If you think about it, you’ll learn better that way.” My father trying to brighten up the mood.

Yea. I guess online classes are going to be ok, but how about my friends? How am I going to live through the days without my friends? Then a sledge hammer hit my face, I’m not going to make new friends because it’s online. Sure enough, I’ll go through my life with my friends leaving me.

Right when I was going to dwell more on the topic, a little girl came in the room with what looked like her mother.

“Hello,” the little girl said in a soft voice.

“Hey.”

“Sorry for causing you so much harm. If it wasn’t for you, my daughter wouldn’t be here with me right now,” the mother said while looking like she was going to cry any minute. “I’m one of the representatives for ChromaNet Gear. For saving my daughter, we are willing to gift you one of our products. Of course, with this you can go to class through virtual reality. So you won’t have to worry about how weird it would be taking classes on the computer. We will also provide the game that’s booming through the century at the moment, Limit Break.”

Amazing how after just 1 hour of the prologue, a lot of people (too me) viewed this. I was hoping to hold this on till tomorrow but I guess I need to put it out there in the world. :D
