Chapter 29

Alfredo's demeanor, though solemn, held a hint of compassion as he continued to address the recruits, his voice now a blend of realism and reassurance.

"I must implore upon you all," he began, his gaze sweeping over the assembled hopefuls, "that the journey of accumulating body essence and ascending through the realms is not one that can be embarked upon by all with the same results."

The recruits exchanged glances, a mixture of anticipation and trepidation swirling in their eyes. Alfredo's words held a truth that was difficult to confront but necessary to understand.

"Talent," Alfredo's voice was a mirror of honesty, "plays a role in this path. There are those among us who possess an innate affinity for the cultivation of body essence, a natural resonance that propels them forward. And then there are those who may struggle, whose progress may be slower."

He paused, allowing his words to sink in, to find a place within their hearts.

"But," Alfredo continued, his tone unwavering, "this does not mean that the journey is closed to anyone. Hard work, discipline, and determination are the equalizers that bridge the gap. Even if your talent is not as pronounced, your dedication can make up for it."

A sense of hope began to rekindle among the recruits, a flame that was nurtured by Alfredo's assurance.

"To ensure that every one of you receives a fair opportunity," Alfredo's voice carried a note of commitment, "I have decided that I will personally instruct each and every one of you in the foundational teachings of the first realm, free of charge. This knowledge is your birthright as members of the empire's defense."

A collective sigh of relief seemed to ripple through the recruits, a reassurance that their aspirations were not in vain.

Alfredo swept his hand across the horizon, encompassing the world around them thus beginning his profound lesson. "The Dracir Technique is about attunement—about listening to the pulse of existence that courses through every living thing. Our world is woven with threads of lifeforce, an energy that connects us all."

Alfredo's eyes met those of the recruits, his gaze unwavering. "In the Energy Refinement Realm, you'll learn to become sensitive to these threads. Meditation will be your guide. In moments of quiet reflection, you'll learn to differentiate the heartbeat of a tree from the flutter of a bird's wings."

As his hands moved in gentle arcs, he explained, "The battle movements we teach you are a bridge—a way to channel the lifeforce that surrounds you. With every step, every breath, you'll draw in this essence and harmonize it within your own being."

He paused, his expression thoughtful. "This isn't just physical. It's about refining your connection with the world, about learning to weave your energy with the energy of life itself."

Alfredo's voice lowered, as if sharing a secret. "As you practice, you'll notice changes. Your senses will sharpen, your energy will surge, and you'll find vitality becoming your ally. It's the reward of resonance—the connection you forge with every beat of your heart."

He looked at each recruit, his gaze kindling a spark within them. "Remember, this stage is the cornerstone of your journey. With time and dedication, it will lead you to the hidden depths of the Dracir Martial Technique."

Alfredo gestured for the Tiros to move into the eastern courtyard, their faces attentive and curious. He stood at the center of the raised stage, a figure of wisdom and experience.

"Before we delve into the movements, we must first learn to feel the pulse of life essence that courses through all things," he began, his voice loud; empowered by some technique. "Close your eyes and take a deep breath. Let the world around you fade for a moment."

The recruits complied, their eyes closing and bodies relaxing into a state of readiness.

"Focus on your breath," Alfredo continued, his words soothing. "With each inhale, draw in the lifeforce that fills the air. With each exhale, release any tension. Let your breath become a bridge—a connection to the energy that binds us all."

He paused, allowing the recruits to immerse themselves in the meditation. The rustling leaves and distant sounds of nature became a backdrop to their collective stillness.

"As you breathe," Alfredo's voice carried like a whisper on the wind, "imagine threads of energy—subtle, yet vibrant. They extend from the earth, the trees, and every living being around you. Feel the rhythm, the heartbeat of life."

He gave them a moment to internalize the concept before continuing.

"Now, extend your senses. Picture these threads intertwining, forming a web that envelops us. Open your awareness to the currents that flow—unseen, but deeply felt."

A few moments passed in silence, the recruits embracing the exercise with sincerity.

"Begin to sense the differences," Alfredo prompted gently. "Feel the pulse of a tree, steady and strong. Sense the flutter of wings—a bird's grace. And within yourself, find the echo of your own heartbeat—the lifeforce that animates your being."

The recruits, guided by Alfredo's words, began to tune into these different energies.

"You see, my young companions," Alfredo's voice held a touch of reverence, "this is the foundation. The Dracir Technique is not just about power—it's about connection. It's about understanding that we're part of a grand tapestry, woven with the threads of lifeforce."

He paused, allowing the recruits to hold onto the sense of connection they had cultivated.

"Take a few more moments," Alfredo concluded softly, "to embrace this awareness. As you open your eyes, remember that every step, every movement, will now be a dance with the lifeforce itself."

He let the meditation linger for a moment longer before inviting them to open their eyes.

As Alfredo guided the recruits through the meditation and explanation of feeling the life force, Apollyon stood at the edge of the circle, his gaze fixed on the horizon. His stance was relaxed, but his demeanor carried a sense of quiet attentiveness.

He, with Alfreds help had already encroached upon the Energy Refinement realm previously albeit with a different martial technique. ‘I do wonder if there will be any problems if I practice this technique along with the Heimarch technique’ he contemplated.

He had an inkling that nothing will happen after all, the two techniques were similar in the way it only worked to accumulate activation energy. ‘Like two different paths that lead to the same outcome. However, it does seem pointless to cultivate both if one can do’.

‘I need to discuss this with Alfred; better asking an expert than making theories’ he noted.

He took quick glances at the recruits attempting to meditate, a sly scorn lingering his mind; ‘This is just the beginning for them’ Apollyon smiled ‘I knew preparing beforehand was a great idea!’ Not only was he ahead of the other recruits, but he also had his own personal mentor as he eyed the wizened butler of his.

Apollyon let his gaze linger for a moment, watching the recruits as he reminisced of his past life. The sensation of meditation and attunement stirred a sense of déjà vu—a sense that was both bewildering and strangely comforting. He had done this before, not in this world but in a place far removed from the realm of swords and lifeforce.

The rhythm of Alfredo's words melded with a second, quieter rhythm—the rhythm of a life that had been lived beyond the boundaries of this world. ‘The pulse of life... I've known it on a different plane, in a different time.’ Memories from a place where the sky wasn't painted with vibrant colors, where technology surpassed anything, this world could dream of, played like vivid dreams behind the fake lustre of his hazel eyes.

‘Feel the threads of energy...’ The words resonated, but they weren't just the butler's instructions. They were a reflection of knowledge deeply ingrained—a knowledge that came from a world of machines and screens, where lifeforce wasn't a mystical concept but a connection that transcended time and space.

As Alfredo spoke of harmonizing with nature, Apollyon's thoughts took a detour. ‘Nature here... it's a strange tapestry that speaks of life, but in my former world, it's often a backdrop—a backdrop to concrete jungles and digital realms.’

His lips curved, caught between amusement and wistfulness. ‘I've walked paths that weave through cities of steel and glass, where lifeforce pulses in the circuits of machines.’ The dichotomy was almost poetic—a warrior's journey in a realm shaped by tradition, intertwined with memories of a modern life where machines were magic.

And as Alfredo guided the recruits to sense the differences in energies, Apollyon's gaze held a distant focus. ‘I've seen lifeforce expressed in code, in lines of data that shape worlds in virtual realms.’ His internal monologue wasn't just a reflection of his immediate surroundings—it was an interplay of two worlds, two lives, and two sets of experiences.

When the meditation concluded and the recruits opened their eyes, Apollyon's gaze shifted from the horizon to Alfredo. He nodded, acknowledging the wisdom of the butler's words. But his thoughts were a whirlwind—a kaleidoscope of experiences from two different planes, intertwined and woven into the fabric of his consciousness.

Alfredo's gaze shifted from the horizon to the recruits, a weightiness settling in his eyes. He knew that this moment would be the only time he could impart these vital battle movements. The recruits' attentiveness mirrored the gravity of the situation, and he took a deep breath, his voice carrying the essence of a legacy passed on.

"Tiros, what I am about to teach you is a gift—a glimpse into a path that leads to mastery. These battle movements are a key to the lifeforce resonance you seek. However, I must impress upon you that I can only teach you this once unless you can present a certain amount of military contributions."

A solemn hush enveloped the training ground, and Alfredo continued, his tone unwavering. "These movements are your foundation—the beginning and the end of what I can offer for free. The dance I'm about to share is a dance of connection, a dance of essence. As I demonstrate, watch closely, for this is the only time I shall guide you."

With deliberate grace, Alfredo began the intricate sequence of battle movements, every step and strike a reflection of his own mastery. "Focus on each motion, each extension. Feel the lifeforce around you respond, like a symphony finding its rhythm."

His movements seemed to stir the very air, invoking the energy he spoke of. "As you mirror these steps, envision your own resonance—the lifeforce within mingling with the lifeforce without. This dance is a language, a communion."

The recruits absorbed his every motion, their faces etched with determination and an anxiousness to remember every step. Alfredo's voice grew softer, yet his words held an unspoken urgency. "This is your chance to be part of a lineage—a lineage that unites warriors and lifeforce. Seize this moment, for I cannot guide you again."

As the last movement concluded, Alfredo stepped back, his gaze sweeping over the recruits. "Now, it is in your hands. Practice, refine, and understand. The battle movements are now yours to master. The path of the Dracir Martial technique beckons you onward."

“Any questions?”, Alfredo concluded whilst he glanced around the crowd awaiting for queries; of course he didn’t have to wait for long.

“Decurion Nogra” said one recruit immediately holding his hand high. He seemed to be from a different centuria as Apollyon noticed.

“Go ahead Tiro, speak”

The young boy cleared his throat in an effort so speak louder; “You mentioned something about military contributions?”

Alfredo nodded inwardly understanding the underlying question at hand, “To continue learning the depths of the Dracir Martial Technique, you'll need to contribute to the welfare of our realm. Every act that strengthens our alliance, every successful mission, will earn you military points. This is outlined in the introductory pamphlets given to you on the first day" he deliberated.

"For every milestone of military points you achieve," Alfredo continued, "you'll earn the opportunity to request guidance and teachings from me. This isn't just about proving your combat prowess, but rewarding those who wish to strive forwards”.

He explained the intricacies of the system—the points earned through victorious battles, acts of valor, and exceptional contributions. Among his explanations, Alfredo also uncovered other rewards that could be obtained from the contribution store such as elixirs, guidance from other decurions, equipment, materials, martial skills and other mundane things such as time off from the military.

Amidst the list of rewards, one thing prompted Apollyon’s own hand to shoot straight up garnering Alfredos attention.

And as if ignoring Alistair’s words against favouritism; Alfred immediately called towards Apollo in anticipation, “What is it Tiro?”, his voice a little gentler than usual.

“May I ask about Martial skills?” he voiced aloud.

“Good question Tiro” he remarked shamelessly,

Alfredo's voice commanded the attention of the recruits once more. He began to speak, his tone a blend of wisdom and practicality.

“In your journey with the Dracir Martial Technique, you will eventually encounter another facet—Martial skills that utilise the body energy you've learned to accumulate. These skills are potent extensions of your resonance with the lifeforce, enabling you to shape your essence into offensive and defensive actions."

He paused, his gaze sweeping over the recruits. "However, it's important to clarify that the use of these skills requires a foundation of body essence—essence you've attuned to through the initial stages of your training."

His gaze held a sense of understanding for the recruits' journey. "So, while this aspect of martial skills is a realm of power and potential, it's not an immediate concern. For now, your focus should be on accumulating body energy and deepening your resonance. The foundation you build now will shape your capability to harness martial skills in the future."

A hint of a smile played on his lips. "Rest assured, as you advance in your journey and accumulate the body essence required, the doors to these skills will naturally open.”

“The second stage the ‘Body Refinement Realm’ is where your resonance with the lifeforce will deepen further, unveiling a realm of mastery that you strive to reach."

He paused, allowing the recruits to feel the significance of his words. "It is in this realm that the doors to unique martial skills will be unlocked—a testament to your growth and your attunement to the lifeforce's essence."

Alfredo's gaze met theirs, his eyes gleaming with the possibilities ahead. "Upon entering the Body Refinement Realm, you will be granted access to two distinct martial skills—one offensive and one defensive. These skills are unique and is woven into the very fabric of the Dracir Technique, only awaiting the harmony of your mastery to bring them to life."

He let his words linger, allowing the recruits to absorb the information. "For now, focus on the foundation—the dance of accumulating body energy and forging a harmonious connection with the lifeforce. Your future steps will naturally follow the path you're laying now" he concluded meaningfully.

Apollyon's mind raced as he absorbed Alfredo's words about unlocking unique martial skills in the Body Refinement Realm. The revelation struck a chord deep within him, resonating with his past life's experiences and knowledge. As the implications of this new understanding settled in, his internal thoughts whirled with a mixture of awe, excitement, and a touch of trepidation.

‘This!... it's actually real’, Apollyon mused, his thoughts a collision of memories from his former life on modern Earth and the reality he now stood in. The concept of martial skills, of channeling essence into formidable attacks and protective barriers, was reminiscent of the virtual realms and video games he had once navigated.

He had already been immersed within this revelation before but having heard it once again; he couldn’t help but feel his childish thoughts and dreams to come to life.

‘This is a merging of realms’, Apollyon thought, his excitement tinged with a hint of disbelief. ‘A convergence of my past as a digital warrior and my present as a recruit in a world shaped by strange forces. The offensive and defensive skills—they're like high-level abilities from the games I knew, but now they're real, visceral.’

His mind was a whirlwind, memories of navigating virtual battles in cybernetic landscapes juxtaposed against the reality of a world where the lifeforce was palpable, tangible. The promise of unlocking martial skills in the Body Refinement Realm was a revelation that transcended time and space for him.

Apollyon's internal thoughts settled, a resolve crystallizing within him. ‘I'll reach the Body Refinement Realm. I'll unlock those skills. And when I do, I'll wield them not just as a warrior, but as an explorer of this vast world!’

“I understand now, thank you for clarifying decurion” he smiled genuinely.

After answering a couple more questions, Alfredo stepped away from the courtyard, leaving the recruits to absorb what they had witnessed. The training ground echoed with the reluctance of the recruits; they desired to learn more despite the rules set in stone.

Evidently there were a large majority of the recruits who failed to understand the essence of the technique.

Apollyon noticed varying expressions on the faces of the recruits that implied this fact, he knew the reason why; ‘Talent’ he internally lamented. Although, he understood the gist of the Dracir technique, he unfortunately did not know the limits to his own talents; just how far could he compare himself to actual geniuses; he did not know.

In spite of that, he noticed that the battle movements demonstrated by Alfredo seemed familiar. ‘It truly was interesting’ he paused recalling the set of movements before making a comparison; ‘It’s too similar to the Heimarch technique’.
