I placed all the documents Fora asked for in a file which I placed by my bedside table.
A neat thing about my ID card was that I had a special number which marked me as a unique citizen.
I also had to get it redone every year to make it line up with the birthdays a person in their mid-twenties would have.
It was tedious but necessary ever since the one time got arrested by police who thought my ID was fake.
Back then, it showed my true age and they couldn’t believe that I was several centuries old and I had to be taken out of their custody by none other than Great Mage Alexter himself.
He, like me, had faded into relative obscurity but he preferred it that way.
He had managed to extend his life by performing forbidden rituals and absorbing the life forces of other living beings.
Humans included, although when he was initially questioned, he said that the people he sacrificed came to him willingly.
He was eventually acquitted of all charges and this definitely didn’t have anything to do with the fact that he was the son of a ancient Great Mage.
And as for how magic worked, it was all telekinesis.
A Mage with a keen mind and the appropriate knowledge could bend the very elements.
We could turn a bucket of water into a stream that could cause some serious damage and could conjure forth storm like winds.
The catch was that that it Required a source. In order to throw a fireball, you'd need some fire.
It was all transference and it was initially thought that I had been blessed with an abundance of Life Energy but that wasn’t the case.
Using magic also had its consequences and having more life energy than normal would result in bloating to an extreme degree and eventually death.
My nose twitched a little as a wonderful smell filled the air.
I made my way to the kitchen, guided by gentle rays of moonlight, to find Lilith serving up two plates of food although the kitchen was brightly lit by the many lights above.
She had asked that we get some groceries when we were shopping and she was already putting them to use.
I sat by the kitchen table as she turned around.
It looked like she was surprised to see me and so I gave her a lazy wave.
“Oh- I was about to call you. Why don’t you have Servants or maids? I had to wash just about every utensil I used.” She wondered aloud while handing me a plate.
“These halls were so noisy and restless for so long that I didn’t mind the silence… and the emptiness.” I sighed as Lilith sat on the chair opposite mine.
“So how do you feel now that I’m here?”
“On one hand, I really wish you and Alexter left me out of your scheme.” I scoffed while eating and, to my surprise, the food she made was quite good.
I half expected it to be awful since I assumed that because she was royalty, she never got a chance to develop her culinary skills.
“And on the other hand?”
“Mmm… can’t say. I guess I ended up accepting because I was doing nothing else with my life. I mean, the Greater good is important and everything but personal motivation is also just as important and… before you came, I was running real low on that.”
Lilith’s eyes widened.
“Wow… that was surprisingly honest of you.”
“Like you said, we once traded blows and I don’t really see why I should hide anything from you.”
“Well… saying we traded blows would be a bit of a stretch. If I remember correctly, all you did was stab me a few times while the actual warriors and mages were fighting me.” Lilith grinned and this made me clench my jaws a little.
“That may be true but I still drew your blood,” I smirked only for Lilith to shrug.
“Meh, I was distracted. Even a piece of paper draws blood sometimes.”
“My cuts may be small but a thousand of them would have felled you.”
I was talking out of my ass and I knew this was just gonna get Lilith riled up but I had pride in me too, dammit!
“Oh? Why don’t we finish dinner and test that with a little sparring session?”
If you spot this narrative on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
“Alright!”
.
..
I was scared.
It had been decades since I last fought anyone and centuries since I fought anyone anywhere near as strong as Lilith.
We stood in my backyard and she had changed back into her grey tracksuit while I wore my pyjamas as usual.
“Ready when you are, Spearman!” She chuckled and it’s here that I called forth a Spear of Light although since it was made of moonlight, it had a pale blue glow to it.
“Come at me-“
I didn’t get to finish my sentence as Lilith dashed towards me at such a high speed, a Shockwave tore apart the air.
She then gently placed her hand over my forehead and forced me to the ground.
I let out a pained squawk but I wasn’t going to go out so pathetically.
I quickly revitalized my body by absorbing the life energy from the grass beneath me and I used this strength to send my now shortened moonlight dagger towards Lilith’s neck.
She squinted at this and tried backing away but I tripped her by locking her legs with mine.
I then hurriedly straddled her and placed my dagger on her throat.
“I… I guess this is my win.” I panted with a smirk but Lilith smirked in return.
I wondered why she was smiling so I looked down to find that her hand was in my chest and it was here that I realized that she was holding my heart but for some reason, I wasn’t bleeding.
“Congratulations on beating me while I was holding back, Spearman. Are you content with this shallow victory or would you like a second round?”
My eyes quaked.
“R-round two.” I gasped as she gently caressed my still-beating heart.
“Alright.” She smiled before pulling her hand out of my shirt revealing that it was covered in blood but my chest closed just as soon as her hand was out as she fed me her own Life Energy.
It was different to normal Life Energy but I had no time to think so I hopped onto my feet and dashed sway while Lilith lightly stretched her arms.
“Ready?” She asked and I immediately reinforced my body with a little bit of excess life energy which would help reduce the damage I was about to take, even if it was by a little.
I was also killing a lot of my grass in the process but I’d worry about that later.
“Alright-“
I stopped as Lilith began undressing.
“WHAT ARE YOU DOING?” I cried as she kicked off her pants.
“I just realized how much I like this tracksuit and I know things are about to get messy so I’m saving its life,” Lilith said and it’s here that I came to a terrifying realization.
Lilith removed everything but her underwear and just as she began to spread her arms, the air grew several times heavier and blood began dripping from my nose.
I steeled myself against the palpable malice by steadily absorbing the moon’s light into my skin and it combatted the darkness that Lilith emitted.
Black smoke then began to rise from her skin and as it did, she was covered in more and more dark armour.
I decided to end things before she was fully covered and threw my dagger at her but she simply smacked it with the back of her hand, obliterating it.
I dashed towards her and channelled a stream of wind directly onto my back, giving myself more speed.
As I approached Lilith, I raised my right hand, created a Spear of moonlight while created several more at its side.
I sent them all towards her while siphoning so much light from the moon that the air grew cold all while my spears grew bright and brighter.
Lilith, in turn, sent a fist toward my head and, even though I knew it would be strong enough to kill me, my spears stayed their course.
However, just before either of our strikes could land, a large black sword fell in the path of my spears and her fist.
The resulting impact almost knocked me backwards and I would have been surprised if I didn’t know exactly who that sword belonged to.
“Enough.”
Lilith and I looked up to find a handsome young man clad in an olive green tuxedo and wearing thin gold-rimmed glasses floating above us.
He had fair skin, short blond hair and dark eyes that seemed to pull any light that dared pass them.
His name was Eins and he was the only human to ever hold the title of Supreme Mage.
Well… his official title was Great Mage but, out of the four, he was the most powerful.
He floated down towards us and landed without a sound.
“Mr. Alexter told me that you two were getting along.” He said in his usual monotone voice.
“Oh- we’re getting along just fine, right?” I asked while signalling Lilith by widening my eyes.
“Uh- yes, of course. We were just sparring for old time's sake.” She awkwardly smiled.
Eins’ eyes narrowed as he walked up to Lilith.
“I ignored the first incident but a second time is not a mistake. Or maybe I should inform you of your transgression before dealing out due punishment.” He said and judging by Lilith’s confused expression, I assumed the two hadn’t met before.
“Your Dark Life Force is harmful to ordinary humans so try not to allow it to emit so freely, understood?”
Lilith nodded.
“Good. Now, for your punishment since we got a few reports of mild dizziness in the surrounding area.”
Lilith’s eyes widened but before either of us could react, I felt a wave of nausea and then I gasped as Lilith’s right vertical horn fell to the ground.
It seemed as though the space around it twisted for a bit and like that, it had been cut at its base.
She began bleeding but before her face could twist to form a frown, Eins’ eyes widened just a little and suddenly tears began falling from Lilith’s eyes.
“Do you object to my punishment, Demon?” He asked and Lilith’s slowly shook her head even though she looked like she was in agony.
“Good,” Eins said before releasing Lilith from whatever hold he had on her.
He then floated up, beckoning his sword with the wave of a hand and I watched as it floated to his right hand.
“We know you won’t be able to kill her should she decide to go rogue but it is our wish that the hatchet can be buried for the sake of the future.”
Eins left and I turned to a still bleeding Lilith.
“Let’s… let’s get that wrapped up,” I suggested to Lilith whose gaze was still skyward.
“Yeah.” She muttered before following me back inside.
She sat in the kitchen and by the time I had gotten my medical box, she had already closed her wound.
“What was that thing?” She asked with eyes that were still wide.
“That’s a good question. His name is Eins and he is essentially the perfect human. Apparently, he was an orphan who the previous generation of Great Mages adopted because of his incredible magical talents. They sent him to the best schools and supported his political rise. Now he is the Supreme Mage who holds mastery over every magic snd who's insight is said to know no bounds. That’s what he is.”
Lilith nodded before finally letting out a sigh.
“He’s a bit of an asshole, huh?” She asked as I handed her some wipes which she used to wipe some of the blood.
“He may seem that way but he has dedicated his life to protecting mankind so… maybe the weight of that sits heavy atop his shoulders.”
“Tsk. Idiot, you were supposed to agree with me.” Lilith scoffed why stretching her back.
“Says who?”
“Says me, idiot!”
My brows knotted.
“How about we finish what we started? No magic, just a nice clean fight so that I can finally wire that jaw shut!”
“You’re on, Spearman!”
