Chapter 5: My First Fight is Against Overdimensioned Cats?
The ambush happened so fast that I didn’t have time to warn my parents. However, the second they saw the shadows moving towards them, they had already unsheathed their blades, and I had done the same.
I wasn’t prepared, but I had no choice but to steel myself and fight to survive.
The shadows reached us and pounced, two of them aiming at me. I only just managed to dodge the two of them, but they still managed to reach me with their claws. One scratched my sword, lowering it’s durability further. I had no information on the durability of my sword; I tried using Identify on it, but to no avail. After all, I need to be higher ranked than the sword, and the fact that the sword was enchanted while I was level 1 didn’t help.
The other’s claw slid across my scales. Because of the angle of the one that hit my scales, it didn’t even leave a scratch that could be seen with the naked eye. I was probably lucky. Only two went for me, while the rest went for my parents.
After having dodged the first attack, I managed to get a better look at the enemies and their numbers.
They were cats, and no, not just some housecats you can play with. Imagine a black housecat, growing to the size as a panther, and now double that size. That was what we were facing.
They all had long sharp claws, thick black pelt, strong yet subtle muscles, and everything else a predator would need. These beasts were made to kill. Unfortunately for them, so are we.
Looking around, without losing sight of my two opponents, I counted them to being 11 in total. 2 going for me, 4 going for my mother, and 5 going for my father. Luckily, the two I was against were smaller than the others were, it was clear that they had just reached adulthood. Unlike their attack towards me, the attack towards my parents managed to wound them both, leaving a few bloody stripes across their scales. However, nothing lethal.
Moving back to my own fight I understood that I had to take care of these two myself, not that I complain. They stood as tall as 1,5 meter, 1,5 times my size. While the fully-grown ones were more than 2 meters tall.
Just as I was planning on what to do, one of the felines ran out of patience and charged towards me, with the other following closely behind it.
Getting into a lowered stance meant for agile defense, I dodged the first one clearly, rolling under its paw. However, the problem came with the second one behind it. Having no time to move out of the way, I decided to parry. I moved my blade under its incoming paw, moving it slightly off course, managing to dodge the attack with only a scratch on the scales on my shoulder.
With the momentum, I gained from parrying the attack and getting the feline’s off-balanced, creating an opening for me to use. Moving closer to it, I stabbed my sword towards its ribcage, trying to get the sword to pierce between the ribs. I succeeded, but didn’t succeed hitting the heart, only puncturing a lung, from what I could tell.
Pulling the back out, I backed to the left, getting both felines in front of me. This time they didn’t look like they wanted to attack me blindly. They had clearly underestimated me and was punished for it.
This time I was the one to charge, surprising both felines, though only for a second. I ran towards the one that had charged first last time, but just when I was about to enter its range, I dashed to the right, getting up close and personal with the one I wounded earlier.
My strategy was simple, take one out quickly and then fight the other 1v1. It worked.
Due to the wound I inflicted earlier, it had trouble breathing and moving, most likely due to the pain. Because of this, I plunged my sword into its throat, before it managed to do anything to defend itself. After only a moment of stabbing through its throat, I felt like all the resistance of the flesh had disappeared. I concluded that I had penetrated its neck.
Pulling the sword out, a lot of blood came flying out, covering me almost entirely. Truly a bloodbath.
A moment later, the feline fell on its side, dead.
Confirming the kill, I turned to the last one. It was just standing there, frozen. I could see both confusion, fear, and hatred in its eyes. Not believing I had killed its comrade, fearing the same result would happen if it continued fighting me, and hating me for killing one of its kind.
After a few moments of silence, except from my parents fighting, it charged at me, this time even more blindly than the first time. It had clearly been swallowed by hatred, and just let the emotions and instincts control it.
Getting into range, it pounced at me. However, this time was even faster and with more power behind it. But, it came with a cost. And that was accuracy.
I easily dodged it, slicing its stomach while rolling under it. I could clearly feel the swords blade going through the muscle. The slash ended with me nearly cutting one of its hind legs off.
It landed with a *thump*, clearly wounded so badly that it lost all its strength.
Quickly running up onto its back, I plunged my sword through the back of its neck, feeling the same sensation as with the first one.
After a few moments, the feline stopped breathing, lying completely still. I had killed both my enemies, only receiving a scratch.
Remembering that I was the one in the best situation, I turned to look for my parents.
What I saw simply shocked me.
On the ground were 9 cut up corpses of the felines, with my parents standing calmly between, with no more wounds than when we were ambushed. And it was clear that they had been standing like that for a while.
Looks like they killed their ambushers easily, only getting small wounds from letting their guard drop before the attack. They must have stood and watched me fight for a while, seeing the smirk on my father’s face, and the expression on my mother’s face.
Well, at least that’s what it looks like, with their snake heads. After a month of living with them, I learned to discern their emotions from each other from their facial expressions.
Li’Sle: “Finally done, are we?”
Father said with a laugh, clearly mocking me. Hey, I just took on two enemies, clearly stronger than me! And it was my first fight as well!
Li’Hiet: “Don’t listen to this idiot, little one, you did well. Most your age would have died from such a fight. I was quite worried when the first attack came, but after seeing you dodging it, I felt like I should just leave it to you to defend yourself.”
For some reason, I was strangely happy at the praise mother gave me.
Li’Sle: “That certainly is true, these feline creatures are called Flurnes. Their individual levels are low, but they almost always hunt in groups of at least 8, this group was a medium sized one. They’re smart creatures, trying to split their forces so that the strong take on the strong, and the weak the weak, like they did just now. Anyway, those two you just defeated should both be around level 80. This would normally leave you no chance, but instead of using brute strength, you used your agility, small frame, and the momentum of their attacks to win. Truly impressive. Oh, and you should probably check your status, you should have gotten quite a few messages.”

Certainly, if they were 80 times my level, I should have leveled quite a bit. Show Status.
Stat Points GainedFor fighting and winning against higher level creatures you gained stats. +5 DEX, +10 AGI
Title GainedFor fighting a battle for survival, and winning against the odds, you have gained the title ‘Survivor’. This title grants you +3% to all stats when fighting against the odds. (Will still count as against the odds, even if the +3% makes your odds equal or greater than theirs.)
36x Level UpFor killing multiple enemies above your level, you have leveled up.
A title, more stats, and 36 levels, wow. That’s insane.
Well, the ones I killed were around level 80, I guess. It would actually be more weird if I had gotten less levels.
Still, 36 from a single fight. It wasn’t that hard, since their instincts made them easy to predict. However, one clean hit would have killed me in an instant.
After finishing reading the messages, I dismissed them. This time my new and updated Status Window showed up.

Wow, I’ve become really strong, many times what I was before, guess my luck really was good. It must have been their first fight, as well.
Before I could continue thinking, my parents cut in.
Li’Sle: “Well, I guess he can go hunting with us more now, and even participate.”
Li’Hiet: “I guess. But for that he would need a better weapon…”
With that, my mind, once again, tried to figure out how I could get the most out of this, and the answer was simple.
Me: “Mom, instead of a new weapon, then could I maybe get a new mana crystal?”
Hearing this she sighed, she might be used to my scheming after the first time where I both got to go watch them hunt, and get the weapon I wanted. This meant that it was my victory.
Li’Hiet: “Fine, but let’s get back home first. We have all these corpses to transfer, after all.”
With my whip-sword secured, we packed up what we could, which was most of it. This was due to that my parents were carrying enchanted bags, which could carry 25 times the amount it would normally do, and the weight is reduced just as much.
They might sound expensive, but from what mother told me, they were quite common. Since so many wanted them, they were mass produced, and ended up becoming a common enchanted item.
After packing up, we headed home. I was extremely excited with getting my whip-sword working.
I can’t wait!

Author Notes:
Hi again! Sorry if it was a little short, just wanted to end it there, same with the battle. Like explained, his enemies weren't used to fighting and were reckless, while MC actually fought in a cautious and calculated manner. :3
Well, I'm off to bed, totally destroyed. Might not release a chapter tomorrow, since I'm gonna be busy, but who knows.
Thanks for reading, and please leave a comment, later! :D
