Prologue - Prayer

Prologue - Prayer

“I guess that’s it. My time to join you has finally come. Where will I go? Will it be heaven… or hell? Will I see all of you again? Will we be able to laugh like we used to? There are so many questions I need answers to. Even though this life was never easy, I still enjoyed it quite a lot. I’m so thankful to all of you… my friends… my family… yes, even my enemies… all of you were part of this story. Is there anything I would have done different? I don’t think so…”

Closing my eyes, I prepared myself for death. A sad laugh escaped my lips.

“Wait, there is something. If only I could have saved her… If only I could have seen that beautiful smile more often… If only I had been stronger back then… I’ve never been worthy to call myself a king. A god. The strongest. All I’ve been is a fool. This is the only regret that I carry within me. I know it’s impossible to save everyone I’ve lost.”

I clenched my fist, even though I knew it was the truth.

“But…. if there’s a single god left… if you can hear me, please answer to my prayer. Give me a chance to right my wrongs. To change the past and save her. I don’t care what it costs me. Take my soul, enslave me, torture me for eternity. No matter how painful. No matter how difficult this path gets. I’m ready. I’ll fight. Because I want all of them to be happy, and I want to see her smile again.”

A single tear rolled down my cheek as memories of our shared experiences flooded back. From the first time we met, to our last goodbyes. I could never forget these wonderful times. I couldn’t think clearly, everything slowly seemed to fade away… There’s only one question left in my mind.

“Did my prayer reach you?”

As I took my last breath, I looked up to the sky to see a shooting star fly through the night. I had to blink a few times as the bright light blinded me. It was so beautiful. It’s like a god sent it to answer my prayer, to let me know that I’m not alone in this cruel world. As I smiled, happy that my prayer was heard, a young Woman appeared next to me. She was clad in a silky robe that covered her whole body. I tried to move my head and look directly at her, but I couldn’t. My heart was filled with hope. Was she the one that heard my prayer? Would she help me? I wanted to ask her so many things, but I was unable to open my mouth or even move a muscle. It’s like the time was frozen. All I could do was listen to what she had to say to me. Her Voice was very soft and feminine as she spoke.

“Begging me to help you now that it’s all over, huh? Humans really are disrespectful creatures. You better entertain me good, little human. My help is not something that’s just granted to everybody, so make sure I don’t regret wasting my time on you.”

As the voice faded, darkness crept in from the corners of my vision, until it was all I could see. The last thing I saw was the woman laughing at my misery.
