Chapter 18
Good morning, Kaysi. I want to chat with you real quick.
As I was gathering my belongings and packing my backpack, I was in preparation for returning to school tomorrow, and I asked her, "Oh, okay, what's it?" It was the final day of spring break before we headed back again.
I need to give you this device, called a "Sourusensā." I would like you to always keep it on you and pay attention to when it goes off.
How does this work, and what is it?
You remember me telling you about soul ties and how each living human and spiritual creature can be detected through the spiritual pressure of an atmospheric aura that engulfs them. They're all intertwined together, threads throughout the Universe knitted into one place.
Yes, I do remember you telling me that.
It will allow you to sense when demons are around so you won't be caught off guard anymore, especially since there are more of you way makers around now. It's going to draw a lot of spiritual energy to one location. This is why guardians and waymakers were originally working solo, not together.
Because of the recent increase in activity, some things have been changed. Heaven's central command is trying something new.
Awesome! This should help out a lot, and we might even be able to detect and locate whatever has been going on with Micah's family.
Yes, I was hoping it might be useful for you to figure out what's been plaguing that little girl, too. She seems to be stuck in limbo. The sooner we figure out the problem, the sooner she can move on to the afterlife.
I agree with you there the poor girl has been there for 10 years.
Once I finished prepping for school tomorrow, the last day of spring break, I took the Sourusensa to work to show the girls.
I filled them in on everything Baby had told me about how it operated and how it may be able to assist the little girl.
Once work was all said and done, we figured we would try to get the little girl to come out again today from the back alleyway and see if there was a way to communicate with her.
Our work shift wasn't too bad, and we had a chance to finish up a bit early. I'm ready if you are, Micah. Hopefully, this mystery will be put to rest. I hope this girl may finally find some peace.
Beck added, I sincerely hope so, as the story your uncle told us the other day pained me a great deal.
We went outside to the back alley to see if the girl would appear again. Unfortunately, she was nowhere to be found.
Micah's uncle came out the back door. Are you girls trying to say hello again to my sweet daughter?
I'm sorry. We don't mean any disrespect. We want to see if we can communicate with her.
Even though your gifts have never fit in with us regular individuals, I've always been intrigued as to what may one day become of them. If you think talking with her might help her move on or give her some peace, by all means, please do something I can not. Just make sure you say hello and that her daddy says, "I love you."
Oh gosh, you're going to make me cry. Beck's voice cracked. She leaned in and hugged Uncle.
My friends and I will do our best to find her and see if we can communicate with her.
I'm unsure where she may be if she's not here.
I don't know how ghosts work, but maybe she's over at her memorial. You might want to try the graveyard not far from here, off of Wabash Street.
Oh, I know where that is. It is off the end of town by Thompson Park. I spoke up.
Beck announced, "I sure am glad that the grave site isn't far from the Cafe. When we are done today, I still have to back some of my items for going back to school.
Oh man, Beck, you still haven't done it? How about you? Micah, did you get a chance?
Yeah, I did a couple of days ago. Mainly because working at the Tenshi-tachi, I never knew when I would have enough time, so I did it at the first open opportunity. Speaking about the Cafe, are you guys planning on staying? At least, now your mom is back up to float and out of debt.
Oh yeah, once I gave her the money she was so overjoyed and mad at the same time. She expressed to me that it was her parents' job and responsibility, which is why she was upset. But now things are going well. I don't need to work at the cafe. That being said, I have grown attached to the place I really can't walk away from it, and Uncle. I know he is not my uncle, but I don't have much family, and he grew up with me.
Oh...Many of our customers say that; now you see the bond he and his daughter had on them. It is great to hear you will be joining......
Micah's speech was cut off, and her attention to us turned sharply elsewhere as we entered the graveyard.
As we all turned from looking at her to what she was looking at, I could see why her smile faded into shock.
There was a fire in the few buildings next to the graveyard. We looked over at the little girl's grave. Ann Monk, the girl's name, was buried in the dirt kicked up on it. The flowers were kicked and crushed, and the memorial Reef placed there was stomped on.
These two things can not be coincidental. It must be the same person who messed up the grave and set the building on fire.
I'm pretty sure this has to do with that teenage kid. It's just probably part of the reason why poor Ann can't rest.
As I kneeled and started to clean the grave, Micah grabbed me and pulled me to my feet.
What in the world has gotten into you? I looked at her sharply because she was stopping me from cleaning the grave.
It's her. I know you guys can't see her, but she's standing next to the burning building! She seems to be waving at us; she looks worried. She's trying to catch our attention. I don't like that she's very close to the building, but we should go over there and figure out what she needs.
Okay, I'll trust you, although we must be careful. Just then, the Sourusensā went off. I looked at my wrist and saw that the GPS was detecting a demon in the same direction as we were heading.
Micah, I want you to look at this; I said as I stopped her from progressing anymore.
I see and I understand but that's my cousin I want to figure out what's going on she needs me.
I understand; I just want you to be aware that there could be a demon attached to her, luring us, so be on your guard. Also, we will be right by your side just in case something happens.
Thank you, she smiled.
We approached the burning building just as there was a substantial fiery shockwave that blasted us backward.
We were just a bit scrapped up. We dusted ourselves off as we stood back on our feet.
Ann was standing over us before we got up. Micah shouted over the roar of the fire.
Did she cause the explosion of the building? "I asked her."
No, she is pointing to something inside the building.
No way, in there. Maybe it is there—the demon, perhaps? I am not quite sure what we can do.
Up there? Up there... She keeps mouthing the words "up there"?
Let me see something about the Sourusensa. Do you know how ghosts can be seen on cameras? Maybe this device can do that, so I flipped open the cell phone-like device and selected the camera feature. I was unable to see her very well, but I could see her silhouette.
I can see she is a silhouette. I can now see what you mean. She wants us up there, and she keeps pointing out there's something up there. The buildings are on fire, however. I don't know if it would be wise for us to investigate or how long we have.
Ann dashed off into the building before I could finish my sentence, and Micah ran right behind her.
"NO" Micah, what are you doing? Beck shouted in panic.
Beck and I ran into the building behind her. We have to get her back and out of this building before it collapses.
