Chapter 3
It seems being a light mage has its benefits, because there are so few I get a scholarship to Sanctus magic school, the second best ranked school in the country. The school is located in Nightingale the capital which is far away from the village, at least the scholarship pays for boarding but I will have to leave my parents.
The new school semester is starting in three days time so I will be leaving tomorrow which leaves tonight to say goodbye. I spent the rest of the day saying goodbye to Tod, Kevin and Sally all of which were cheering me on to do something great.
When I got home mum prepared her amazing roast pork to send me off. The next morning we parted with tears, not wanting to let go of the other but knowing it’s for the best. I don’t think I will ever forget looking back at those crying faces from the carriage and trying to wipe my own.
It was a bumpy ride which took nearly 7 hours but you could see the capital in 6. Nightingale stood tall and had huge walls stretching to the heavens which seem to have done a good job defending the city. Inside the walls it looked like their were 10 people for every 5 meters, the bustling of the cities far out shines what I saw in greater malling. In the centre of the capital there is a castle that looks like it was crafted for the gods itself made out of both marble and gold.
The school is located on the east side of the city and is about the same size of my village if not bigger. The main school building is made out of a rock I don’t recognise while the dormitories are made of brick. They have a stool at the front gate with a sign saying
“WELCOME NEW STUDENTS”
A man about 15 years old is managing the stool with a bored look. I walk up to him and introduce myself as a new student. He gives me an uninterested nod and gives me a map where to go. While walking away from the man, I can’t help but wonder if everyone in the city is like that.

I eventually found my way at the dorms which seem to be built upwards instead of long wards. My room is 7P, so I make my way to the elevator and try to find my way to room P. The room is very flash with two bedrooms and working plumbing, this is most likely due to me being a scholarship student.
I was unpacking my bag when I heard the door open, I was suppose to get a roommate hopefully this is them otherwise it’s an intruder.
Clive Kingsley was my roommate, he was about my height with blond hair and you could tell by the way he walked he thought very highly of himself. After introducing ourselves he knocked past me and walked into my room, chucked all my stuff on the floor and then closed the door. I might have been onto something before when I said (thought) that all city people were arrogant, well at least I haven’t seen any guys in dresses, yet.
It was approaching 6;00 and the brochure the guy at the desk gave me said that dinner was served then. I made my way there and somehow made it to the opposite side of the school while I was looking. It seems we’re having curry tonight so I grabbed a bowl and made my way to the canteen to have a middle aged man with huge gut serve me my food.
I scanned over the room trying to find an empty spot, it seems someone noticed me and is signalling me to sit down next to them. I sat down next to him who could have easily been recognised as a girl with his short red hair, he introduced himself as Sully.
Sully actually lives not far from my village and in the next province over called Rosemary, he wants to be a magical engineer when he grows up. We chatted away for ages until a crashing sound could be heard echoing around the room
We all turn around only to see my roommate Clive on the ground with another guy standing over him. Clive stands up and picks all of his food of the floor and puts it back on the tray and walk off. The bully wouldn’t let that happen and grabbed onto Clive’s shoulder and said “you gonna run away like you father”.
Clive swung around like a blur and launched the bully a meter away with his fist and walked off. I tried following him feeling a little responsible because he’s my room mate. When I caught up to him and asked if he’s okay
He turned around and even though he didn’t speak a single word I could tell he was telling me to stay away. So I walked back to the cafeteria and sat down next to Sully.
Sully asked “what’s wrong” and I answered “don’t know”
I walked back to my room and saw Clive’s door already shut, so I walked into my room and slept. The best thing that has happened in the 24 hours I have left home is definite sleeping in this soft bed, I have never slept this good before
Sorry Sully
