Hello, I'm sorry for going quiet this last week. Classes have been even more hectic than expected (my school has a "shopping" period, which is great for seeing different classes and for trying to boost your chances of getting off waitlists, but it also means you're attending twice as many courses as usual). I'm also participating in the Royal Road magazine contest, and I've been trying to finish my submission for it before the deadline. It's a short story, so once it's done and posted that'll be it.

Additionally, I received some advice from someone I really respect who has a lot more experience in progression fantasy and the publishing world in regards to Light Eater's first few chapters. Following their suggestions, I've been working on writing an alternate beginning that starts in Lazar's perspective instead of Julius's, though this has been pretty slow going since it involves a lot of changes to the way exposition is paced out. Once I'm done with this, I'll probably post it here either as a docs link or a new chapter for thoughts on which opening is preferred.

This is very quickly becoming a lot longer than a "short" update, so to wrap things up: Light Eaters will have inconsistent and likely infrequent updates for the rest of January and possibly the beginning of February. Once things settle down, I'll return to a set schedule, which'll probably be different from the old one to account for classes and jobs.

Thank you so much for your patience and for reading along. I tend to be very critical of my own work, and trying to rewrite the beginning has only exacerbated those continued doubts. I know this story is far from perfect, and I'm really thankful to you all for sticking with it.
