10 – Pack rats, combat trail

Lilliana’s acid powers are a complete game changer when it comes to expansions. Quite frankly, she is like a tank rolling down on infantry. I think she could beat a hawk or an eagle in a duel. On the other hand, a bat swarm might be too much, and for all I know, there are dragons out there. Oh, I have some plans for her, however to act on them, I will need her mana pool full, just to be sure. This means another fight with the girl… 4th one.

I met her on day 173, and had 2 more visits, plus 8 days to bring us to now. Total of 201 days, yet no snow. Either their yearly cycle is longer than on earth or the cold climate is not the reason for her paleness… well, both could be true.

Regardless, the pack rat spawner is up and operational. Ania took some convincing not to walk right into. In the future, I will have to plan for spawner evolutions to finish right after my battles with the girl. However, even without an upgraded champion, this spawner is quite crazy. It produces small rats, actually; I suppose mice would be a more appropriate descriptor.

Whatever they are, in addition to pure numbers, these rodents have a special property… swarming, they can combine into a swarm. Thinking it looks like a blurry mess of limbs and fur, of quite a large volume, more than I expect. It inflicts anything in its area with many bites. In terms of durability, it seems to be held together by magic, magic that protects individual rats from harm. Once broken, rats spill on the ground unharmed and can act individually, however they cannot form or join swarms for a while. The oddest part is… it’s slime shaped, a squashed spherical drop, can squeeze through a mouse hole, but it can also jump, even act a bit bouncy if needed. I am conceptualising it as a spell, which feels a bit inaccurate, but that’s the only way I can make sense of it.

The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings.

Overall, interesting stuff. A big ball of rodents that splits into tiny ones. For now, I don’t think I will end up having enough time to reconstitute swarms. Maybe next time… then I will have the basement ready.

I had a strategy, but I wasn’t whopping for much today. When the day came, the girl went in with a static aura already up. It was stronger than before. Majority of her body protected by thick fabric armour. While not enough to fully negate rat bites, it does majorly soften them. I start her off with normal rats, with Ania getting a hit in now and then, letting her warm up. Then the marbles, quickly charged and repealed by the static field… yeah, that’s about what I expected.

Time to, quite literally, roll out new rats. Swarms formed from a group of 5 were able to withstand the first hit, but fall apart by the second. Meanwhile, individual rats fall, even to the secondary spark produced by her spells. Acid moths could inflict some damage by dying above her, but that would ruin her hair and do little to hinder her in combat.

I suppose I have nothing to do, but let her chew through the spare rats I have and send Ania back to the spawner. This time she has a cute wooden box for strawberries, and she fits as many strawberries as she can before eating the rest.

On a plus side, I have enough mana to finish the basement. Whole new room, whole new chest, trapdoor in the corner, a ladder leading down, and some miscellaneous decorative items. The chest was one of the first things I made to let the loot build up. However, I won’t be counting on the girl getting to it on the first try.
