Chapter 1 - Arrival

Dawn crept on the boy and the buck as they stood at a halt in front of a large open field. It had been two years since they had begun their journey, and the buck was now an adult, the boy now seven years of age. The wind beat at the dead grass and weeds to and fro, as death loomed within the field. The buck looked at the boy before pushing its antlers against the ground.

"We've finally arrived huh?"

"It's been a long journey, but we're finally here." The fledgling druid stated as he fumbled throughout his bag to find the great tree's seed pod. The dark wooden shell that encased the seed, had cracked a small shoot of green plant life rising from it.

"Where should we plant it, Blue?"

"We have to make sure it gets enough sunlight, mana, and water."

"I can only provide two of those though." he sighed.

Blue looked at the boy before prancing to the middle of the field and stomping its hoof beside a small patch of grass that was beginning to turn yellow.

"The last bit of life around here it seems,"

He looked at the baby tree that had already begun to grow once more, before digging a small hole with a small spade he had in his bag. The dry dirt fell onto the spade almost as sand would, only small clumps appearing occasionally.

"Perfect," he stated as he gently placed the seed pod, in the dirt hole.

The druid soon after swiped the dirt with his hand, back into the hole, only the small sprout of the great tree seed showing.

"It's about noon isn't it?" he asked the deer as he put his hands to the ground, the tips of his fingers pointing in the direction of the plant.

"Oh, the mana of life I bestow upon thee this gift of life to thee in front of I," he chanted as his hands began to glow, the light beginning to diminish as it touched the sprout.

Stolen story; please report.

Ragged breaths came from the worn-out boy, as he got up from where he had cast magic and looked up at Blue

"Almost finished for the day," he sighed as he pulled off a flint and metal ore from the bags on Blue.

"Go fetch some sticks and wood," he ordered, "I'll set up the rest."

----------------------------------------

The campfire's wood crackled, as the smoke attempted to climb up toward the moonlight. The moon was full as it looked down at the boy and Blue, who looked up at the night's sky.

"Do you ever miss your parents Blue?"

The buck ignored the question, distracted by the beautiful stars, as it yawned.

"I was captured along with my parents, the only reason I know to use magic is because they taught me before we were captured."

"Said I could've become a prodigy just like them." he sighed.

"Tomorrow we'll have to explore the area,"

"Then maybe build a house,"

"If we're going to live here, I don't want to sleep on the ground forever."

Blue looked at the fledgling druid and nodded before looking back up at the stars.

----------------------------------------

Light began to crack open into the darkness of the day, as the sun began its ascent. The druid's vision blurred, he rubbed his eyes as he slowly woke up. Blue soon after woke up, as it yawned before getting up.

"After breakfast, we'll be exploring!" the boy smiled.

"Let's hope to find something interesting,"

----------------------------------------

"ONWARD!" the boy exclaimed as he pointed a stick in the direction he wanted to go.

The dead grass crunched, as his feet stepped on it, Blue following after the running fledgling druid.

"AAAAA!" he shouted as he tripped on a rock and face planted into the dry soil.

"You could've warned me," the boy pouted as he looked at Blue.

"Anyways, back to exploring!"

The wind blew toward the direction, the boy and the buck were headed as they began to make their way up a hill. As they made it, to the top they looked around at what surrounded the dead field. Mountains covered the west, hills covered the north, and plains covered the south and east.

"We should probably head back, I still need to give mana today," the boy said, as the two began their descent down the hill.

----------------------------------------

"Finally... Finished..." he sighed as he fell to the ground.

"Blue where have you been?"

Blue ignoring the question, picked up the tired boy with its antlers as it took the druid to a pear tree. The buck, then dumped the druid off its back, as it slammed its antlers into the tree, pears falling from the branches.

"Thanks," the boy sighed as he began to eat a pear.
