Death is Knocking

Death is Knocking

"Do you know why you're here?" The darkness encompasses my surroundings. A ominous fog surrounds me as I try to run only to find myself unable to move.

"Does it even matter?"  It's voice hollow of emotion sending goosebumps over me. The fog starts to slowly recede and in the distance a black figure lurks on the horizon slowly making its way to me and although I am surrounded by darkness the entity is made of a black miasma that makes all other darkness seem almost gray in comparison. As it approaches me I look into it's eyes and find myself transfixed now unable to even move my head.

"Are you Ready?" The Unknown Man asks and I get a feeling as though perhaps my answer is less important then the question being asked. I stand face to face with the Unknown but still can't make out any details of what it might be. It's breath somehow permeating a heat onto my face but I can't help but to shiver as if submerged in ice.

"Salvador will you be a Savior or a Villain?" I hear a scream as my vision turns red. The voice sounds like a mixture of a baby wailing and an animals roar. I close my eyes from the pain as my head feels like its splitting apart.

*GASP*

I sit up.... My bed soaked in sweat but still feeling cold as a winters night. 'It was just a dream' I say to myself half trying to convince myself. Out the corner of my eye I see a shadow moving so I run to switch on the lights but as I turn them on...Nothing. 'Just a trick of the light, I really need to stop watching horror movies at night' I look around in my quite cozy room staring at my desk where my computer sits for a second as I take a second to get my bearings. I touch my head and recoil noticing it was bandaged up.

I try and recall the last 12 hours as most of it is hazy. I remember Justin wanting to talk to me, him knocking me to the ground and kicking me a few times.... and then him running onto the street and getting plowed by a semi-truck. I let out a small chuckle for reasons unknown to me as I google search any accidents in the area

'Well it wasn't just a dream' I tell myself as I read the results finding an obituary for Justin Warren (18) Died on September 23, 2013 hit by motor vehicle on Bufen Rd at 4:10 p.m. I kept reading to see if perhaps there was any suspicion of foul play but knowing all the while the police would be tight lipped about it. I sigh as I try and remember if there was anything I might have left that would incriminate me but the last thing I remember was getting the hell out of dodge.

I get up to go to the bathroom and relieve myself and prepare myself for the day to come, as I stare into the mirror I just take a minute to reflect on my features. I have dark brown hair almost black and eyes to match. The bags under my eyes don't do much to help my sleep deprived appearance. I have a ghoulish complexion but I wouldn't call myself pale, it's just I usually spend most of my days in a dark room with the only source of light being the luminous glow of my computer monitor.

I snap back into reality as I move towards the kitchen to prepare my breakfast for the day. I tell myself 'It's a Bacon kind of day.' I start frying up some eggs and bacon in the pan as I toast some whole wheat bread and squeeze myself some very fresh OJ. I also start on seasoning my steak I plan on cooking for dinner and whip myself up some leftover pork chops into sandwiches for lunch today. Most of my meals contain a type of meat as I've always considered myself a carnivore as I could live my whole life never eating another vegetable again. Just the action of tearing flesh with my teeth as the juices spill into my mouth makes me feel like some kind of apex predator on the hunt.

I make sure to make double of everything and leave the extras in the fridge for whenever my mother wakes up. Although she was never as much of a connoisseur of animal pith as I am much preferring a balanced diet. Pshhhh more for me I wont complain. I notice the clock on the wall 6:40 so I quickly get dressed and make my way to school.

The walk to school is only about 15 minutes so I have enough time to check the street of the accident before making my way to class. As I get there I notice the alley is blocked off by police tape. ' Shit. Shit. Shit. they know, I mean why else would they have cordoned off the alley.' I now start assuming the worst as my heart races I make my way to get a view only to be puzzled by the soot covering the area around the dumpster and the smell of smoke wafting through the air.

' What the hell happened here?' I think to myself as I make my way to the entrance of the school making sure to act as normal as possible....... Yeah that's funny. Act Normal.... What does that even mean. I sit down at my seat as the bell rings signifying the start of the day. On the Speaker System our Principal starts his usual announcements but you feel in the room that today is anything but usual.

" Hello students I am sad to inform those of you who have not heard yet but yesterday we lost one of our own in a terrible accident outside of school, most of you may not have met Mr. Justin   Warren as he had transferred in just yesterday but I hope we can all take a minute to introspect and realize how easy life can be taken away from us. There will be a few officers and Detectives around as the accident happened so close and there was a small fire in the alley but we have no reason to believe those two incidents are related so there is no need for panic. That is all."

'Okay well that definitely is some bullshit if I've ever heard it.' I can't think of any other reason for them being here other then the suspect someone at the school knows something about those two incidents and they're hoping to put some pressure until someone break.... Sure as hell won't be me. ' Did anyone see me yesterday walking along with Justin?' A million other questions pop into my mind as I assume the worst.

Well there's no use in panicking when nothing is pointing to me and hopefully that fire in the alley removed all traces of my DNA from the scene. Well nothing to do but focus on school and by that I mean day dream until lunch .

-4 hours later-

I open up my bag to eat my pork chop sandwich savoring every moment as I know it will be bliss when suddenly from the speaker system I hear " Mr. Salvador Perasonia can you please report the main office." I feel every eye in the room fix onto my desk and in my head all I can think is 'Okay. Now is the time to panic'. I make my way out the room and hear whispers behind me muttering of my crimes and as I turn back I realize no one has said a word...

I make my way to the office and every step I take in the hallway somehow gets me nowhere as no matter how much I walk it seems I am not moving. And just as quickly i find myself at the doors of the office met by the Principal Mrs. Wachmen who tells me.

" Hello Salvador we just needed you to meet with a Detective Micheal who happened to just have a few questions for you. Nothing major so nothing to worry about, you'll be back to class in a jiffy." she said with a beaming smile that made me want to throw up and slap her a bit. I enter the room and hear it close behind me ' I guess I face my adversary alone, but that's always the case isn't it'. I make my way to the table where a man is sitting.

He has blonde short almost buzzed cut hair, blue eyes that feel like they pierce right through you and a smile that screams of knowing something you don't. He looks at me as we just stare at each other for what feels like days and just as I start feeling a splitting headache coming he asks.

" Do you know why you're here?"
