It's already been a week that Karl discovered that he could earn experience points by killing mosquitos.
However, mosquitos quickly became rarer day by day and thus the leveling up became a tiny bit harder to achieve.
We may thing this isn't a big issue but for our little Karl, it was a matter of survivability.
Nothing guarantees his actual situation will be the same.
He always had to prepare for the worst because life is a bitch.
Seriously, it doesn't give you lemons and it will try to f*ck you anytime you don't pay attention.
Or even if you do pay attention, it'll hit you like a train you see it coming but can't avoid.
So the goal was simple but hard: Becoming strong, becoming autonomous.
Oh and it was already mentionned but the orphanage wasn't in a very-gifted situation.
The orphanage ran by sister Emmanuella was in a very modest village. The nun received meagre financial support from the regional diocese which was not enough for the orphans. The rest of the help was from the village, donations given by the villagers, in the form of foods, tools or little helps to maintain the orphanage.
So more reasons to why Karl was pressuring himself to level up.
Anyway.
One day, Karl started to bawl, sway his arms and shake his body up and down.
"Bah-booh! Bah!!"
Emmanuella and a little girl came to Karl.
"Sister, what does the baby want?"
Emmanuella answered "Well, I think our little Karl wants to get out from his bed and crawl on the ground."
This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.
Sister must be reading in his mind because that was exactly what Karl wanted.
Once he was put on the ground (don't worry, the floor was made of wood and it was rather properly cleaned. This is not a child abuse), Karl started to move around. He was actually looking for insects to kill.
"Elise, can you look after Karl so that he doesn't hurt himself, please? I'll go tend the vegetable garden for a little moment."
"Sure."
So Elise, 6 years old, was on duty to look after Karl. It was all thanks to Karl who did stay calm although being a baby and that was how Emmanuella wasn't worried to put Elise alone with the baby.
"Karl, what are you doing?" said Elise.
Karl was looking at a bunch of ants on the floor.
"Oh, are you interested in ants?"
"Booh-bah!"
Splaf!
Karl smashed an ant with the palm of his tiny hand.
"Jeez, Karl. Now you dirtied your hands. Let me wipe it for you."
But before she could even bring a piece of cloth to do it so...
Splaf!
Splaf~
Splaf~!
Splaf!!!
Karl managed to kill more ants. Dozen of them!
*sigh*
"Naughty Karl. Well, now there's no more for you to kill anyway."
And Elise wiped Karl's dirty hand palm.
"Boo-booh."
Nothing more to do, so Karl quickly became as good as gold.
But then the massacre was worth the effort!

......Experience point is raining~
He got another source of experience points and this was quite important as he couldn't go very far due to his very young age!
Congratulation, Karl!

Oh and thank you, dear Ants.
These ants are a good source of experience points.
'Ants, you are my new friends.' thought Karl.
