A Farewell - A Demand

Dearest par

Dear Family

Mom, Dad,

If you’re reading this then one of the maids has no doubt brought this letter to you after finding it upon my dresser. Despite everything else I might have to say, I hope that you find this before panic sets in. You deserve plenty but not that.

As you may have surmised I am no longer at the mansion. Nor will you find me at any other estate. I have packed a few essentials and I have left. I understand that such a sudden and rash action could be perceived as juvenile foolishness. I won’t prove the point by telling you just where you could stick such thoughts.

The contract was the final straw.

I understand that I was the spare, that I was the extra daughter in case the unbelievable happened. And I played along with that charade for some time. It was in my best interests after all, and I’ll admit freely that I enjoyed it. But now that has come to an end.

I don’t know where I’m leaving to, or if I’ll ever return.

Your stories about our ancestors being grand adventurers might have inspired me. So thank you for sharing those, mom.

I’ll continue to keep you informed of my whereabouts, if only to prevent Rosaline from having a panic attack. She, at least, doesn’t deserve to have her constitution tested on my account.

I still love you,

***

Amaryllis,

Please come back.

You father is losing what few feathers remain atop his head and both of your sisters are fluttering about like hens who misplaced their eggs. You must put an end to this childish flight of fancy.

If the marriage contract truly bothers you so much we can renegotiate. You could at least make the effort to meet the Hawk boy before running off.

And where will you stay? The streets of Farseeing aren’t always safe at night, and your class and level are hardly a deterrent to anyone who would wish you harm.

I knew allowing you so much freedom at the academy was a mistake, they’ve put foolish notions in your head. Or, perhaps, you merely corrupted the entire place with your attitude. We’re still receiving complaints from the faculty to this day.

Regardless. You must return. Your duties to the clan aren’t over.

We won’t cut the connection between your beacon ring and the bank, in case you must draw funds in order to return, but we will send someone to find you.

Please respond promptly.

Your worried mother.
