Comyen Tower
Shocking. There was no other word for it. Styven was whisked away, along with half his uncle, to some place else.
Where did he go? Why did he leave? What exactly happened to him? I will find these answers, and I will find him.
For no man escapes me once I've set my sights on him. Nobody escapes Evelyn Alton.
Just as with Styven, I am also a tower trained leronis. He thinks he can hide from me? He’s wrong.
During the months of his absence I scour the documents we have on teleportation. I discover after examining the energy output of the matrix he used, that it not only sent him across a vast distance in space, but also through time too.
This is not entirely unheard of, but it is unrefined. There is a legend in the mountains about a bandit leader who had his leroni summon an exact copy of himself from a place far away, something about a prisoner frozen in ice they called stasis, then killed the leroni and used the copy as his double. Also in that case I don’t think his double traveled through time.
Styven most definitely traveled through space and time both. Otherwise his uncle would not have been split in half, but taken with him instead. No, Styven knew this matrix well enough to know it would kill his uncle and send himself away at the same time.
I gathered all the other leroni in the tower, along with the keeper, and told them of my plan to ‘rescue’ Styven. In order to get him I would need their use of laran, and expertise to send me there.
“Evelyn, are you sure you want to do this? Have you completely memorized how to create this powerful matrix that we are going to use? Are you sure you will be able to find the materials and other people who have laran to send you and Styven back to us?”
I have no intention of coming back, I know I can’t, no other planet has the stones to create a matrix with. He has conveniently forgotten this. I still lie to him. “Yes Keeper, have no fear, for I will surely arrive safely back to the tower along with Styven.”
And so I went to my assigned spot, and the leroni around me replicated the spell that sent Styven away.
I was immediately sent to a place with no form. There was a complete absence of light, and it was cold. Very cold. Dear gods, how did he survive this? Did Styven die in here? Did I just follow him to my doom?
“Help!”
There is nobody around to answer me, but I keep screaming.
“Is anybody there? Can somebody hear me? Help, I’m going to die!”
As I scream in desperation I finally sense something, a brightness, like a beacon, but I am unable to move.
I focus my laran on that spot and send a mental shout. Whoever you are, wherever you are, please reach out to me and take me from this nightmare!
...Who is this?
I am Evelyn Alton and I am trapped. Will you be my anchor and pull me out?
...I...can...try…
Then I pass out.

Styven’s House
As I sleep, I have a dream.
It is a dream about a beautiful woman with red hair and sky blue eyes.
She is in a dark place, screaming for help. At first she is vague, but steadily she solidifies and becomes clear.
She notices me, and begs me for help. I have seen her before. I have known her.
Somewhere in the recess of my mind I think...who is this?
Surprisingly she responds to me. I am Evelyn Alton and I am trapped. Will you be my anchor and pull me out?
Ahh, the girl from the tower I trained at. But that is so far away. How is it she can contact me telepathically? She must have used the same matrix I used to get here.
I mentally push her along the route I took to get here. I gently nudge her a few hours ahead of my arrival time, for two people can not occupy the same space at the same time.
As I do this I respond to her ...I...can...try…
I strain myself, exert my energy over her and set her on course. I chase after her with one last thought about her stupid and ill conceived plan and then I fade away and pass out.
Styven’s House
I had spent nearly five years researching and understanding the matrix that sent me here. I understood that you needed a starting point and an ending point. I understood when Darryl Aillard attempted to cast himself first into the future, that was his starting point, and when he attempted to cast himself into the past, that was his ending point. Because he did not put the starting point at a reasonable time to allow him to make use of it, his attempts did him no good. When I learned of this, I made preparations to escape my miserable life.
It never occurred to me that Evelyn would attempt to follow me. If I had not made the trip myself, if I was not gifted with laran, if I had not been a matrix mechanic, then she would have never made it.
While our window of communication was still open and before she fully manifested into this world, some months into my past, I told her what I was doing at this time, when I began royal road, and that she could find me in the game.
After that our window closed and I passed out from all the effort I used to aid her.
-10 hours later-
I wake up refreshed and energized. I decide to go to the dojo and train for today, after all the health of your body is one of the most important things you need to consider when you are a dark gamer, also it keeps my real world sword skills sharp.
Afterwards I decided to go to the market and purchase a few items, like food, items for domestic hygiene, and a interesting book about Royal Road.
As I approached the teller, I caught an interesting thought from her.
Oh what an attractive man, and what is better, he’s not thinking lewd thoughts about me. Maybe I should drop a ‘hint’ about asking me out.
As I approach her I feel the unmistakable use of laran directed at me, and a sudden desire to be around her. Since I am trained in this sort of thing, I decide to not fall for it.
“Hello sir, did you find everything you was looking for today?”
“Yes I did, thank you.”
“Everything? There isn't anything else you are looking for? Nothing more you want?”

As I proceed to pay for the items I notice the shocked expression on her face.
Haven’t you met anybody else with laran? You may be special but you are far from the only one with it.
Laran?
Yes. That is what I know it as. Have a good day.
As I walk out she asks. “Would you like to...umm...get to know each other?”
I turn around to look, and notice her face is very red. No, she is most definitely not used to the more conventional methods used to get a man’s attention.
“What time do you get off?”
“I will wait for you across the street at the deli.”
As I walk over to the restaurant, I take out the book I purchased and start to read it.
The book tells about the nations in Royal Road, how to acquire points in faith, reputation, royalty, and getting fame and notoriety. Describes the process of getting certain particular skills, who trains them, and how to generate skills you want.
She came over as I was finishing up the section on skills.
Her name is Janet Mckinzie. She’s from Scotland. Has brown eyes, red hair, and freckles. She is also quite the beauty. We had a nice conversation about laran, how to train it, what not to do with it, and got a sandwich to eat.
We exchanged phone numbers before we left, and I asked her if she played Royal Road. She of course does, and is located close to me, in Someuren Liberty City. We agreed to meet up two weeks from now, two months game time, and we parted ways.

I take a closer look at my stat window and try to figure it out.
'What do all these numbers mean and how are they calculated? I never have been good with math, but I eventually figure out that for every point in intelligence and vitality i get 10 units in health and mana, and every point in endurance and wisdom, I get and additional 5 units. Something else I noticed is somebody with attractiveness at 100 with a level of 1 has an absurd effect on the surrounding populace.'
I was walking through the town square looking for some beginner armor and weapons to purchase before I left the town to adventure.
"Hey pretty boy, come over here and try some of my wares, I will even give you a special discount if you do me a favor."
Attractiveness! It's a gold mine for a low level player. NPC's almost throw their stuff at you just for a little bit of attention.
So a few hours later I leave the town with a some nice leather armor and a beginner's iron sword, and very much invigorated after doing her the 'favor' she wanted.
As I walk I come across some people killing helpless rabbits and foxes. They are just minding their own business and not bothering anybody when suddenly a group of people comes across the field like a stampede of cattle and trample them down, except they are using weapons.
This kind of activity isn't really to my taste.
I decide to venture a little bit further until I find some more worthy game to hunt.
As I stumble through a thicket I come across an elf who is cornered by a pack of wolfs.
"Hello there, are you in need of help, or are you one of those people who thrive in the bloodshed and murder of animals? I came across a whole pack of them on my way here."
"Heeeeeelp!"
As I feel her fear I receive from her a thought [i] Is this guy an idiot? Of course I need help. Would a noble elf like me be cornered by some wolves on purpose?[/]
'Hmm. I guess she does need help.'
I decide to use my Seducer's Dance and shortly dispatch one of them. There however are four more left and and just two of us, so I continue to use my combat skill until they are all dead.
'Quite easy really. I didn't get many critical hits, but four regular hits is enough to kill one, and I still have enough mana left to activate the skill four more times.'
As I mull over these thoughts I feel a great deal of affection and relief from her.
