Chapter One - Awakened Survivors

Chapter One - Awakened Survivors

[6 · May · 2027]

Light of dawn shined upon a snowy mountain as the sun, once again, greeted this side of Earth.

A fairly large town was located at the base of that mountain.

Some roads left the town to climb up the mountain, all having a single destination.

Further up the mountain, where the roads ended, there stood a grand dojo. It was a huge building having a height of around 5 stories tall with width being almost 200 meters in length, and that was only the part visible to the naked eye. Snow fell on it as mist covered a better part of it, giving the dojo a majestic yet mysterious look.

In a certain section of this dojo, was an indoor garden. Several trees and a pond in the middle decorated the garden.

An elderly man sat near the pond, cross-legged and eyes closed. Although as aged as he was, his shirt less upper body indicated that he would not lose to any Olympic bodybuilder. Rippling muscles and scars covered his body and not a drop of fat could be seen on it, leaving only his wrinkled face, white hair and long beard as evidence for his true age.

Wind blew inside the garden, lifting the man's hair and beard as it passed him. To a distant spectator this scene would look calm and serene.

It was far from it. The air around the man was heavy. There was a tension in it, almost as if he was readying himself for attacking. And readying himself for attacking he was.

The elderly man got up and threw a punch in front of him, moving faster than the time it took for someone to blink. He stayed in that position for less than half a second, and then he was back in motion.

Left fist punching forward, right arm going back. Upper cut from right hand, followed by right elbow downward bash. Backwards right leg kick, turned into leg sweep. Jumping up from sitting position, bringing right knee forward. Knee bash turned into front kick. Right leg kick followed by left leg kick. Landing. Dashing forward. Right shoulder bash, readying left fist. Stopping. Left fist punching forwa–

*Doors bursting open*

“ Master! ”(??)

The old man stopped in the middle of punching, making the room lose its heavy atmosphere. Disturbed from his concentration, he slowly opened his eyes and focused them on the reason for his disturbance.

A youth stood there, brown hair and exceptionally good build for someone who had a face of a fifteen year old. He stood there panting, apparently exhausted from running all the way to this corner of the humongous dojo. He tried to say something but couldn't get a complete word out before gasping for air again.

“ Calm down little Ed, get your breathing under control before you try to say something ”(Master)

Hearing his master, the boy stopped trying to talk and focused on his breathing. After getting it under control through breathing exercises he once again started talking, the urgency in his voice not lost one bit.

“ Master! They are waking up! Big brother kai sent me to tell you that all the people trapped in Nodus B-Litm are waking up! ”(Ed)

The old master's eyes widened as a single name floated in his mind.

‘ Rhys…. ’(Master)

He hurriedly moved towards the opened doors, thoughts of continuing his training or even putting on a shirt all but gone from his mind.

“ Has kai already prepared transportation? ”(Master)

“ Yes master. He said he would be at the fourth entrance ”(Ed)

Finding out where he needed to go, the old man's hurried steps moved even faster, leaving the boy out of sight in less than 5 seconds, which, considering how long the hallway leading up to the garden was, was no small feat; although, considering who the old man was, it was hardly a challenge for him.

He arrived at the fourth entrance to find a man waiting next to a car. The man had black hair and wore black shades with a suit of matching colour. Spotting the old man, he moved towards him.

“ Good morning, Master ”(??)

“ Kai. I am guessing you have already prepared everything ”(Master)

“ Everything to the last detail, Master ”(Kai)

The man, Kai, replied as he handed the old man a towel and a shirt.

Casting a brief glance at both items, the old man used the towel to get rid of sweat then put on the shirt as Kai opened the car door for him.

“ Tell me what has happened on the way ”(Master)

The old man said as he got in the car.

“ Yes, Master ”(Kai)

Kai replied as he closed the door. Getting into the car himself, he turned it on, drove the car out of the dojo compound and then started speaking again.

“ At five forty-five AM I received a call from one of our men stationed around Maralon hospital. He notified me of a sudden commotion in the hospital, and after two minutes, informed me of how all the people locked inside Nodus B-Litm are waking up. At the same time most of our contacts called in and shared information along the same lines. After making sure none of this information was false, I sent Edward to get you as I prepared a mode of transportation for us and called up the head doctor currently present in Maralon hospital to inform him of your arrival ”(Kai)

“ How is he? Rhys ”(Master)

“ Alive. No tests have been conducted yet but he too woke up. It's just… the doctor said they were unable to communicate with any of the people who woke up, not completely atleast. It will take some time to figure out what's going on exactly. The staff is currently looking into the issue. Besides that, everything else seems to be fine ”(Kai)

“ I see ”(Master)

The old man let go a breath he didn't realize he was holding in and relaxed back into the seat.

“ He would be fine. I doubt something like a two and a half year coma will be enough to take him down, he is Your grandson after all. An Alexus ”(Kai)

“ I know, but even I can't walk off death. It's just good to know he is alive.……. Still, barely 20 minutes have passed since you received that first call and you are already up to date with the situation. I see you are as efficient as always ”(Master)

“ Well– ”(Kai)

Kai looked back at the old man through the mirror.

“–I did learn from the best ”

The car drove on towards the town, location being Maralon hospital.

★POV CHANGE★

★Ryhs★

haa…. that's that I guess. I'll see you again Rei, hopefully soon….

Welp, time to wake up.

Slowly opening my eyes, I was greeted by blinding light…… …..not.…wow, I was expecting to be greeted by a bright blinding light for a second there, but seeing the rather lack of light even tho there seems to be a window on the wall to my right, I guess it's night time huh.

It's a little hard to look around with the black shaded visor of my helmet and the general darkness inside the room working together and all, but taking into account both, the display on the screen of the machine right next to my bed, and common sense, it seems I'm in a hospital room.

I can feel my body against the bed and I don't seem to be in any kind of pain so I suppose I'm fine..…well…I hope I'm fine.……………....Nope, something definitely feels off here. I was thinking my body being unable to move properly was just because of not moving any muscles for a very long time but, now that I focus on it, there is definitely something wrong with how my body is reacting to the commands it's getting from my brain.

It feels slow…well…slower than it's supposed to be. I'm trying to lift my hand and, considering how much I know about the human body, which happens to be alot really, the speed at which my hand is moving and the strain it's putting on my muscles just doesn't add up. If I'm really lifting it as fast as I can then the strain should be alot more than just this. Even moving my eyes or blinking isn't as fast as it shoul—

oh….Ohhhh I get it, but, just to be sure, I stop trying to lift my hand and focus on how fast it drops. Yep, it's falling much slower than it should be, just as expected.

It seems my perception of time has slowed down by quite a bit, five times to be exact, applying simple maths on how long it took my hand to fall back down the approximate distance to the bed. I didn't notice it before because, apparently, I'm doing this subconsciously…… and I shouldn't be doing this subconsciously, seeing as how I'm just chillaxing on this comfy bed and not, well, fighting or anything.

I had skills in NBL that allowed me to slow down my perception of time and at some point I just learned to do it without thinking much about it, usually when fighting or doing something that required extra focus. But this isn't NBL…..…………..'STATUS'……..nothing.... yea this is definitely Earth, so I shouldn't be able to use those skills.

Meh, probably some side effect from staying in Nodus B-Litm for so long. It's not like the human brain isn't capable of slowing down it's perception of time or anything, I just relied on the skills to unlock the potential.

It's not even that big of a deal. it's just slowed down by five times. I can easily turn it back to normal…..or rather, increase it by five times since, for some reason, five times slower is considered normal. It just feels natural, like this is how it's been for a long time.……but it hasn't…..…...Ahhh screw it, I'll look into it later or something.

Turning my perception of time back to how it's actually supposed to be rather than "how it feels like it's supposed to be" I try moving my body again and, although still a bit hard to move, it's no longer as slow or awkward. Hearing the sounds around me normally is also nice, although there isn't much to hear.

There's no commotion or anything going on outside, no surprise there, considering it's night time and how even though it seems like quite some time has passed, divide it by five and you'll find that it's not much at all really.

Well, everything seems fine and I'm finally starting to feel the mental fatigue from that last fight……*sigh* guess i'mma go back to sleep huh. Funny how I supposedly woke up from a long one just to fall asleep again. It's definitely well deserved tho, afterall, I did just defeat the final boss of Nodus B-Litm and freed everyone. A small nap ain't too much to ask for in return now is it.

Besides, I should rest up, there is still so much left to do...

Thinking that, I drifted off to sleep.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

I stood in front of a house.

Color full house.

My house.

Home.

Where I used to live before moving in with Gramps.

Before mom and dad passed away…….

Other houses were there too.

At the edge of my vision.

Hard to focus on.

Blurred.

Black and white.

Unimportant.

It's a dream. One I'm pretty sure I've seen before. Pretty sure everyone in Nodus B-Litm has seen before, just at their own important places.

Cracks appeared.

On the street.

On the houses.

On my home.

On the air.

Everywhere.

The World shattered.

I woke up.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Opening my eyes, this time, I was greeted by blinding light. It seems someone removed my helmet since it's visor isn't here to shield my eyes from the sunlight coming in from the window. Oh boy, I sure do wish that someone would have also lowered the window blinds but I guess we can't have everything we want huh, life sure is tough. I'll just have to make the best out of this situation on my own. Look at all this vitamin D I'm getting. Hu-freaking-ray.

Anywho, having that dream now was a bit unexpected. I guess it's not that weird to have it now tho, what with NBL ending and all, it's just… I thought there would be more to it this time and not just a repeat.

We had this dream, everyone in NBL that is, at its start. After Hideaki Eiji explained how we were trapped and all, everyone simultaneously fell asleep and had this dream. The places we saw in the dream were different, for each individual their own important or special place, but everything else was the same, from the colour contrast to the cracks everywhere to everyone waking up when everything shattered. The dream I just saw was no different than the one I saw back then. No Different.

Haaa I really wanna know what comes after everything shatters. I'm damn sure that's not the dream's end. Just a gut feeling.

………. Nope it's not working. I tried distracting myself with other, presumably more important, things but it's just not working anymore. This light is way too Damn Annoying!

What kind of nurse forgets to lower the freaking window blinds when it's about to turn day time and a patient is sleeping in the room. Seriously! I'd Freaking Do It My Self If I Could Just Reach That God Dang Butto—*button clicks**blinds lower*………………

…………………. The Phuc?!

Did I just…. no way….but. focusing on the button again, I will it to click. It clicks……... one more time. It clicks again……………………….'STATUS'…..'MENU'...'SKILLS MENU' 'EQUIPMENT' 'INVENTORY' 'FULL CHARACTER SCREEN'…………….. nothing………..haha…..it seems I am an esper now…….thats cool.

Ooooookayyy, brain.overdrive.NOW.

Nature: mind.

Able to will things into motion.

Unable to will things into existence.

Puts no burden on mind.

Puts no burden on body.

Feels like killing intent.

Does not act like killing intent.

Similar to final boss's power.

Possible explanation: potential within brain unlocked through final boss fight.

Overdrive over.

Phew. That was definitely helpful. Now I don't have to worry about everyone who woke up from NBL having powers like this atleast….. hopefully. More importantly, I now have something to keep me from getting bored. Now then, let's start wi–*door opens*–th not doing anything with my newly discovered power. Yes, let's start with that.

This novel's true home is a different platform. Support the author by finding it there.

A blonde lady with sleepy eyes wearing a nurse outfit enters the room, looks at me, notices I'm awake, unenthusiastically says “oh you're awake, I'll call the doctor.” and then walks out of the room.

Well she looked miserable, probably didn't sleep the entire night..….. I bet she's the one who forgot to lower the window blinds.

I start thinking of what to do with my telekinesis now, when I also start thinking of how there might be cameras in here, at which point I start thinking of not doing anything with my telekinesis and just wait for the doctor to show up.

After around two minutes the door opens and a tall man enters the room. He had black hair with strands of white in them and looked to be in his late forties. The man wore a typical doctor's outfit and had glasses on his face. He was also holding some kind of recording device.

He sat down on the chair next to my bed, and pushed a button on the recording device.

Some kind of jumbled, really fast, voice came out of the device.

Oh.

“No need for that doc, I can understand you just fine.” I politely inform him.

Surprise momentarily crosses the doctor's face before he starts speaking.“Ah, I see. The survivors were able to solve the issue on their own after finding out what the problem was, although only a few were actually able to figure out what the problem was by themselves. I suppose nothing less should be expected from Grandmaster Zars's grandson.” He smiled “That aside, Mr. Rhys Alexus, welcome back to the real world.”

The smile on my face widens a bit at his words.“Good to be back.” Although there is more than one "real world" for me, its good to be back on Earth.

“Now then, I am doctor Marcus and I would like to give you a brief rundown on what's going on to clear up some of the questions you probably want to ask.” He straightened up a bit.“Yesterday morning, all the people trapped in Nodus B-Litm were released from it and woke up, although some went back to sleep straight after, there seemed to be no abnormalities and the helmet could be removed without harming the user. We couldn't communicate with the survivors until someone figured out what the problem was after which we used devices like this,” he tapped the recorder next to him.“to speed up the sounds and properly communicate with them.”

Oh wow. I slept for an entire day and then some . Haven't done that in a while…….. the coma don't count. Also, I wonder who pulled off the first helmet from a sleeping survivor's head…… just a random thought. Kudos to whoever figured out the time perception shenanigans tho, must have taken some good amount of thinking and testing….. or just luck. Whatever works I guess. Going over what the doc said over, I focus on him again….. by that I mean I turn my time perception back to normal. I slowed it down to 'importantly' think about what the doc said.

“After we informed them of the time perception being slowed down, they were able to turn it back to normal on their own. Some survivors were even surprised by being able to do that, much less other people.” Of course they were, not everyone of us was a fighter.“After that, we found out from them that, although only two and a half years have passed in the real world, you've all been trapped in Nodus B-Litm for over twelve years.” The five times difference in time perception makes sense now.“That happens to be everything. I hope I answered most of your questions.”

“Thanks doc, you did.” Tho you did end up adding some worries. So everyone of us survivors can turn our time perception back to normal huh. That's bad, not how we are able to mess with time perception, but rather, how it's going to be no secret that we can mess with time perception. There's definitely going to be someone somewhere out there who's gonna think 'hey, if they can turn it to normal, they can probably slow it down too' and, well, someone who can slow down their perception of time can be useful in alot of ways, good or not. Considering my background, people definitely won't come after me, but the others….. I'll have to do something about this.“I'm guessing the rehab we're gonna go through next is going to contain both, physical and mental, therapy.”

“Yes, although most of it will be handled by the Virtual Reality Humanitarian Defense Organization.” He replied.

Eyebrows furrowed, I elegantly asked him to elaborate.“Never heard of em.” Very, Elegantly.

“It's an organization that was formed by the government after the Nodus B-Litm incident so you wouldn't know about it. They took care of alot of things concerning the people trapped in Nodus B-Litm. After your grandfather fills up some forms, they will start your rehab.” Doc explained.“ Speaking of your grandfather, he arrived at the hospital yesterday, around forty minutes after the survivors woke up but you were already asleep by then. He's in the city right now and I've already informed him of you waking up so he should be here in a while.”

“I see,” Gramps huh. I remember I was pretty close to him back then. Bet he's gonna be surprised as hell when he sees how much I've changed compared to when I entered Nodus B-Litm. “thats all I need to know for now. Thanks for telling me doc.”

“No problem, if you have any other questions just push the blue button next to your bed and a nurse will come.” He got up and straightened his coat a bit.“Well then, I'll take my leave now. I wish you luck on your recovery Mr. Rhys. Have a good day.” Turning around, he walked out of the room.

That was informative….. I suppose. Atleast now I know what's going on with the other survivors and all. He didn't talk about the people who didn't survive or anything close to that subject. Probably dilebrate.

He also didn't bring up Hideaki Eiji, so I'm guessing he's neither caught nor dead. That's good, there are some important questions that need to be answered and he happens to be the only candidate so far, who has those answers.

I'll find him. I'll definitely find him somehow.……. Although, glancing down at my laying body….…..… later, I'll find him later. For now, I'll just ask Gramps about him.

Around sometime after doc left, the door of my room opened and an old man entered through it. A really, buffed out freaking full of muscles, old man entered through it.

Yep, that's definitely Gramps. The guy hasn't changed one bit since I last saw him, still full of muscles and all. Honestly, if it weren't for the wrinkles on his face, people wouldn't even know that he's actually over his seventies.

It's good to see him tho.

“Hey Gramps,” he's been standing at the entrance tho, just, looking at me. Didn't even say a word. Guess he's a bit more surprised than I thought he'd be, over my smiling face and all. Widening my smile, I continue. “Long time no see.”

“Rhys… it's,” his surprise increased a bit at my words.

Alright, I admit. I have zero idea on how to communicate with him. Heck, I have zero idea on how to communicate with anyone from before Nodus B-Litm, none. I mean, besides the fact that it's been like twelve years since I last saw any of them, I'm preeeeetty sure I was a 'emo don't want no friends' kind of person back then. Now tho, now I can't even imagine acting like that, much less speak like one. Honestly, I'm just going with how I naturally talk to people and hoping the change doesn't freak them out too much.

Gramps somewhat surprised expression gradually turns into a smile.“It's good to see you awake, little Rhys.”

It seems to be working.

“Good to be awake.” I'd be surprised if my face didn't get any cramps from all this smiling I'm doing. Meh, it's not like I'm ever gonna stop smiling or anything, so it should be fine…… did I just raise a flag?…… “You don't have to keep standing at the door you know,” I bobed my head towards the chair.“come sit down.”

Realizing he's been standing at the same place for quite some time now, Gramps closes the door and briskly moves towards the chair to sit down.

“Haha, sorry about that. I was just taken back at seeing you smile and talk so casually like that.” his smile saddens a bit as he continues.“You stopped doing that after….. after Franz and Layla passed away.”

“yeah... I remember that. I used to love them so much didn't I, mom and dad.” I do remember. Even though it's been more than seventeen years for me, I remember it, all of it. They gave me one of the happiest times of my life…… that's why I also remember the grief.“I remember it so clearly too, how much it….... hurt… to lose them. The pain I felt when I realized I won't ever see them again was….. so much... and…. whenever I thought about it, I.… I just didn't want to feel like that…. ever. That was the reason back then, why I started distancing myself from everyone. Even now, I never want to feel like that again.”

“I figured that might have been the case. You thought if you did not have people to lose, you would not have to go through that again.” straightening up a bit , he asked what was probably on his mind from the start of this conversation.“So what changed?”

“I met the most amazing person I have ever known, Gramps.” My smile, that had turned sad when I was remembering mom and dad, started regaining it's happiness as I recalled one of the most important memories of my life.“She told me to remember them, remember the times I spent with mom and dad, all of them. Then she asked me if it wasn't worth the pain, that if I was given a chance to go back to the start and somehow separate myself from them so I never have to feel the pain of losing them on the cost of never feeling the happiness with them, will I take it? I realized then, Gramps, that I won't take it. No matter how bad the sorrow is, those memories are just too precious to give up on. And if I want to feel happiness like that again, I'd have to risk feeling the grief……… and I did. I still never want to feel the pain of losing someone important… but,” Any trace of sadness that I had left in my smile was now completely gone.“I'm willing to risk feeling overwhelming sorrow if it means I can feel immense happiness.”

He was silent for a moment before a wide smile crossed his face.“Hahahaha, that is great! So you are finally ready to make some friends, little Rhys.” That's how you interpret everything thing I just said.. haaa. Well, in a way, he's not wrong.“I cannot wait to tell everyone back at the dojo about this.”

“Haha, I know right. I can't wait to see the surprise on their faces, it's going to be amazing. Speaking of which,” remembering the other people before NBL, I ask.“how are they doing? Big sis Ana, Kai and the others.”

“Good. Everyone is doing well. Aine moved back to Blue Streak City and started university two years ago. She stays in touch and occasionally comes back to visit us and you. She was the most devastated at finding out what happened to you so I bet she is gonna fly here as fast as she can when the news reaches her.” Even after how hard I tried to push her away huh. Seriously, she's too good for me.“Kai has been worried about you too. He's actually standing outside right now since he thought you might not like to see anyone except me or Aine for now.”

And probably listening in on our entire conversation, that wannabe spy.“Well if that's the case, you can come in Kai. I know this room is probably filled with listening devices so you should know I'm not so emo anymore.”

A few seconds pass before the door opens and a tall man with black hair and blue eyes enters.

“Rhys. It's good to see you awake.” Kai says with a gentle smile.

“Good to see you too, Kai.” It is. Spying tendencies aside, he's one of the nicest big brother a person can ask for.

“So…. how've you been.” Kai slowly asks.

Good and bad? Sad and happy?? “I can't describe all of it in a sentence, but….. let's just say, if I go back in time, I'd still put on the helmet and login to NBL, knowing I'll get trapped. So I guess it wasn't that bad. How I am now tho, ughhh this is tortuuure” I lift my hand and move it around as fast as I can, which isn't fast at all, for emphasis.“I feel so weak and slow, it's really annoying.”

“Well… you wouldn't stay that way for long. The rehab won't take long since your muscles have still been exercising. After the incident, some companies focused on developing stuff that'll keep you all as healthy and in shape as possible. That stuff has been regularly used on you and the others so yea, the rehab shouldn't take long.” He gives a helpless smile and tries to console me.

“Kai is right, little Rhys. Those machines and medicines work great. It should only take you about four to five weeks to recover” Gramps also chime's in.

“It.. could have been worse, I guess. But still, that's like a month to recover.”I sigh helplessly.“I'll just have to roll with it then, huh. Welp, enough about me, how've you been doin, Kai?”

“Sound, I suppose.” shrugging, he continues.“Nothing truly big happened since the Nodus B-Litm incident so I've just been doing what I always do.”

“By that, you mean keeping an eye on everyone.” I clarify while lifting an eyebrow.

“And everything, yes.” He adds.

Still as professional as ever I see. Good to know he hasn't changed much either. Also, I suppose it's certain now. If Hideaki was caught, the news would have definitely entered the "Truly Big" category. So he's, without a doubt, still out there.

“I'm guessing a person named Hideaki Eiji is an exception to that then.” I ask and the air in the room abruptly turns heavy.

Both of them lose their smiles and narrow their eyes, not at me, but at the name I mentioned.

“Yes. Hideaki Eiji, still escapes my grasp.” Gramps starts.“From the day you were trapped to this very day, I have not been able to find a single trace of that man.”

“It's not just us either.” Kai adds with a frown.“People over the entire world have been looking for him, literally. I can't even think of a place where we haven't actually looked and yet, we still couldn't find him. We've checked America and Japan so thoroughly that we ran into other extremely wanted people in hiding and arrested them, but still no Hideaki Eiji. It's like the bastard disappeared from the face of Earth.”

!!!!!!!!!!

The heck!?!

My head's hurting like hell!!

It was those words, wasn't it?!?

Disappeared from the face of Earth!

Disappeared from face of Earth…...

disappeared from Earth….

THE CRACKS!

They are connected. They are definitely connected.

A message??

Those words a trigger?

Yes! ….but it's not complete.

Something is missing.

I know something is missing!

“Rhys,” Gramps voice pulled me out of my crash thinking.“is everything okay?”

“Ah. Yea, it's nothing.” With how much physical pain I've been through in NBL, it wasn't hard at all to not react when my head started hurting. Still, Gramps saw something was wrong huh, guess that's a veteran for you.“Was just thinking about where he could be hiding if not on Earth. Haha, maybe he really went to space or something, the guy is supposed to be a super-mega genius.”

“We actually already thought of that possibility,” Well, damn.“and checked out the moon and other areas we have access to, in space.”

Good Kai. You're doing great. Keep it up. I don't think they'll last more that five minutes if you keep going like this. My dreams of finding Hideaki quick and without trouble that is.

Letting out another helpless sigh, I continue the conversation.“Well, at the very least, now might be the best time to start looking for him again, seeing as how everyone trapped in his game is finally free. He might make some noise, probably should keep an ear out.” Pausing, I look at Kai.“Although, I'm guessing you're already on with it.”

“I am.” He nods towards Gramps.“Master is helping out too so I doubt we'll miss anything. We've been especially keeping an eye on the survivors just in case he plans to visit one of you. That and—”

“In case someone plans on getting themselves a human who can mess with time perception.” I cut in.

“Yes, that.”

“I see.” So I suppose I don't have to worry about that.

I doubt we'll find Hideaki with just this but, well, I can't really do much how I am now. I have to find him tho. He might be the only person that I know of, who knows what's behind the cracks.

I do have an edge, compared to others. My telekinesis. I don't know how good it is, with how little I've gotten to practice with it, but I'm pretty damn good at noticing what goes on with my body and when I used it, I felt no drain whatsoever. It's either not taking anything to use or the cost is so small even I couldn't notice it, both of which are good cases.

I'll work on it when I'm sure no one's watching me, for now tho, now there's some other people I want to ask them about.

My friends, to be exact.

“So Kai, you've been keeping an eye on the other survivors, huh.” He comes out of his thinking and focuses on me.“I don't suppose you can get me in touch with some of them.”

Lifting an eyebrow, he asks.“Friends?”

“Friends.” After a second I also add in.“Well, most of them, atleast.”

He lifts another eyebrow at that but doesn't pry further.“I'm sure I can find all of them, just tell me some of their information, like ingame or real name, and I'll get on with it.”

“Thanks Kai, really appreciate it” I genuinely thank him.

“No problem Rhys, just get well soon so you can go and meet them by yourself.” He says with a smile.

The heavy atmosphere in the room is already gone. Gramps started smiling again when he heard the word "Friends", the dotting old man.

“Well then, I suppose that's all.” I start ending the conversation.“You guys probably have alot of things to do so I won't keep you here”

“I'd want to say otherwise but *sigh* there really is alot of things I need to get done.” Kai adds.

“I too would like to stay here for longer, little Rhys, but I have been away from the dojo for an entire day now, without any prior arrangements, so work has been piling up.” Gramps also adds with a sigh.

“It's ok guys, don't worry about it.” Just one day is not alot of time for many normal people, but then again, Gramps and Kai don't really add in the category of normal people.

“I will be sure to tell Aine and everyone back home of how you are doing.” Gramps readies to leave.“I am going to sign your papers for rehab, so get well soon, little Rhys.”

After telling Kai of some details concerning my friends from NBL, I bid farewell to the both of them.

Before closing the door, Gramps stops and looks at me, a smile etched on his face.“It really is good to see you like this, little Rhys. You have probably been through alot in that game. They would have been proud of you, your parents.”

I didn't reply with words, my widening smile more than enough for it.

I know they would have been proud.

I've done alot of things in NBL. I tried to stay good as much as I could, but sometimes, I did have to go through situations where good or bad wasn't so clear. The choices I made then might have been morally questionable. But I know they would have still accepted me.

Might have scolded me a bit, but still accepted me.

They were my mom and dad after all.

“Take care little Rhys”

“You too Gramps”

And with that, the door closes.

That really was nice, seeing their faces again, talking to them. I really am back on Earth, huh.

I'll check on my friends from NBL… those who are alive atleast, after Kai gets their numbers or something.

Big sis Ana's probably gonna visit soon, should be ready for that.

Nothing to do for now but wait for rehab to start, I guess.

Haaa, I wonder what will happen after I'm done with rehab. Move back to the dojo? I dunno… actively looking for Hideaki probably won't get me anywhere, considering how the entire world seems to be doing just that, yet haven't gotten jack on him.

I'd probably go and visit my friends in America then go to Japan and do the same or something.

Haaaaa. Rehab for now tho. Rehab for now.

I wonder if they'll restrict me from eating alot of food.

I hope not.

Me love yum yum food.

Me kill for yum yum food.

haha.. hahahaHaHaHAHAHAHAHA………….. judge me.
